Doomsday Bunker Upgrade - Chapter 33
Chapter 33: Finally Got My Hands on Phone and Laptop
Chen Xin finally waited until the lightbulbs stopped flickering after a week in the bunker. He opened the big metal case at the speed of light. He hurriedly tore off the aluminum foil as he took out his phone, laptop, and gaming console.
Chen Xin felt a sense of joy and happiness brought by technology.
A phone was already an indispensable accessory for the modern-day human being. Smartphones had a lot of functions even without an internet connection and signal.
The simple apps on a smartphone had a lot of different functions. If you observe closely, these apps already seeped their way into our daily lives in various aspects.
For example, Chen Xin used to scroll on his phone for half an hour when he woke up, and before he went to sleep. He was not trying to scroll for something important or to chat with someone, it was just an unfixable habit. He needed to check every app he had on his phone.
He knew he did not have an internet connection, but he still clicked on the apps subconsciously and tried to check for news.
Chen Xin refreshed his apps but there was no signal in the bunker, all the news was from a week ago. The last news on his feed was about the failed rescue operation.
Chen Xin silently stared at the news. He let out a deep sigh and was feeling depressed.
The news represented the end for humanity, the end of their glory days. Humans faced a new era of difficulties and hardship.
It could be said that this news was a wake-up call, reminding everyone that humans would struggle for survival in the long cold nights.
Chen Xin motivated himself after a moment of sadness.
Human civilization might be over, but they were far from losing hope.
The glory of human civilization might be history, but humans were still alive!
It was true that they fell into hardship, they were met with a shortage of food and all sorts of resources. The whole world was a dark winter dystopia!
However, as long as humans existed, they should not give up hope. They could get through this! They would overcome any obstacles and rebuild their homeland!
This unbreakable human spirit was the most valuable asset of humanity. It was how humans survived since Ice Age and got to the top of the food chain, the rulers of the world. Humans built civilizations and societies, humans even defied gravity and wandered in space!
They did it because humans always had hope.
It was like a spark of flame, it might be insignificant, it might look small, but it was everything.
Hope carried humans through hardship and obstacles, again and again, passing down the flame of humanity through generations!
The situation was bad, but our ancestors faced worse with only sticks and stones. We were lucky in comparison!
A safe solid bunker was a better shelter than a cave from our ancestors.
Warm clothes were better than animal fur.
We replaced Ice Age creations with various functioning tools.
Our war machines were far superior to the weapons of our ancestors.
We were better at everything than our ancestors. There was no reason that we could not be like them, to find a way and get through obstacles, right?

Chen Xin recollected himself and turned on his laptop. He organized the information he had so far.
He downloaded all sorts of information on his laptop before entering the bunker because he knew he would not have any signal down here. He copied a lot of stuff in his hard drive file.
The information included tutorials and videos on how to maintain a greenhouse farm, how to fix a broken generator, how to fix cars, and reparation tutorials…
Whatever Chen Xin could though of were all downloaded into his phone and laptop. He had no problem looking for information even without the internet.
At least in the next few days, Chen Xin would not run into any issues with the information at hand.
Of course, he could not miss out on novels, movies, and entertainment.
Without the internet, Chen Xin felt like he could never see the endings of the novels he used to read. As for video games, he could only access the single-player games.
However, for someone like Chen Xin had no access to electronic devices the entire week, even Poker or Minesweeper was good enough. Plus he had a lot of premium AAA video games on his laptop.
Chen Xin finally got his hands on electronic devices, but he did not instantly play video games to relax. Instead, he checked for information storage in his laptop, he wanted to ensure no files were corrupted by the EMP shockwave. He looked at his notebook and created digital copies of his bunker upgrade plans on his laptop.
Chen Xin took simple notes for convenience, but now he had access to his laptop so he could create a more complete Excel form. That way he could keep track of his plans and progress.
Moreover, Chen Xin used CAD for simple illustrations for better planning.
The easiest way to upgrade the bunker was to choose the general bunker upgrade from the system. It was the most convenient and fastest way, it was also the most direct way.
However, Chen Xin only gained little survival points daily, it was not yet up to a hundred survival points. It was not enough for the general bunker upgrade, at least not in a short amount of time.
“Basic Simple Bunker”
“Upgrade Plan A — Defense level up, increase bunker ability to avoid disasters, increase comfort, technology in bunker level up +1, 12000 survival points required.”
“Upgrade Plan B — Expansion of bunker, increase the number of members allowed in the bunker, increase protection of resources, members allowed in bunker +5, 15000 survival points required.”
These are the two options of bunker upgrading plans. Chen Xin ignored the high survival points that made his blood pressure went up, he only analyzed how he could benefit from the two options, how he could upgrade his bunker and increase his chances of survival.
