If she could just figure out the exact symptoms he was suffering from, Isabella could tailor the effects of the medicine to be more specific.
“Whatever.”
“Thank you, Your Highness. Then, I’ll be on my way now.”
Isabella bade him farewell, repressing the urge to bask in his presence for a long time.
After opening the door and exiting his bedroom, Isabella clutched her beating chest.
It had been a long time since she last talked to him like this.
Duke Kyar’s gaze, expression, and tone were still cold compared to the past, but she was already grateful for that short face-to-face conversation.
The earlier event wasn’t the sad dream that she often had.
It was real, and he was right there in front of her.
Isabella smiled bitterly every time she woke up from her dream about the Archduke.
She wanted him to remember her so badly.
She would sit at the corner of her cabin in a daze and shed tears until her tear ducts ran dry.
Nevertheless, she was all right now.
Isabella would have a lot of chances to see him every day as long as the Archduke wouldn’t kick her out of Rubella Castle.
She had to survive.
**
Duke Kyar suppressed a grin when he recalled Isabella saying how handsome he was that she couldn’t help but peep at him in secret.
He didn’t believe her lame excuse one bit, but in the meantime, he would observe her while she stayed by his side in the meantime.
After all, Duke Kyar had a plan in mind.
He closed the book he was reading and rubbed his tired eyes.
Duke Kyar had reached his limit.
He was awake for two days straight.
Exhausted, Duke Kyar slowly walked to the bed, laid down, and covered his bloodshot eyes with his hand.
He was so sleepy that he couldn’t stand it.
He hated falling asleep, but he was gradually losing the fight.
The hand that rested over his eyelids dropped to the side, and he fell into the pitch-black darkness of deep sleep.
Standing outside with one ear on the bedroom door, Isabella breathed a sigh of relief when she heard the sound of Duke Kyar’s regular breathing.
So far, it appeared like he didn’t have any problem sleeping.
Marc approached her and asked. “Did His Highness fall asleep?”
“Yes, I think he’s already sleeping. I’m going to wait here until His Highness wakes up.”
“It’ll be hard to keep standing all night, so I’ll have a servant bring a chair outside his bedroom door.”
Isabella smiled at Mark’s thoughtful words.
“Thank you.”
“Don’t be too surprised to see His Highness’ real condition when he wakes up in the morning.”
Was the Archduke’s condition so horrible that Marc decided to warn her?
Concerned, Isabella nodded.
“Yes, sir.”
“It’s painful to watch him from the sidelines, so I hope your medicine works well.”
“Yes, I hope so too. I’ll be guarding this place, so hurry up and sleep, Marc. It’s late.”
“Then I’ll leave everything to you, Isabella,” Marc said with relief.
Isabella smiled.
After Marc’s departure, the servant brought a comfortable chair and a blanket.
How considerate of them!
Isabella sat on the chair and wrapped herself in a blanket while keeping her eyes on his bedroom.
She could have slept, but she just couldn’t do it, not when Duke Kyar was sleeping on the other side of the door.
How long has it been?
Isabella had fallen asleep on her chair when she heard a loud howl from the inside as if it came from a beast.
Surprised, Isabella put the blanket back on the chair and hurried into his bedroom.
Then she saw Duke Kyar sobbing and trying to claw his heart out with his big hands.
“Your Highness. Duke Kyar.” Her voice trembled when she called him multiple times, but he didn’t seem to hear anything.
Isabella turned all the lights in his room on, picked his medicine up from the table, and approached him while he cried.
Marc’s words about ‘not being surprised to see the Archduke like this’ finally made sense.
His condition was way worse than she imagined.
Isabella reached out and grabbed his hands so that he would stop hurting himself.
“Your majesty, please take this medicine. Then—”
She placed the medicine in his hand, but it didn’t work.
He threw the bottle to the side, which smashed hard against the wall.
“Your Highness, Duke Kyar.”
He clenched his fist and angrily hit the left side of his chest.
Isabella rose quickly and wrapped her arms around him to calm him down.
“It’s all right. It’s all right, Duke Kyar. Nothing is wrong, and you are safe. You just have a bad dream that you couldn’t remember.”
As Isabella embraced him, she gently rubbed his broad back while repeating he was fine.
Then Duke Kyar’s sobbing died down.
