Chapter 32: Enchanted Plants and Guardians
“Are we leaving just like that? Don’t we want anything else in the camp?”, Laura looked at the items in the camp with a regretful expression. “We should at least take the food with us.”
After suffering from hunger once, she was still very persistent about food.
“Do you know that the kobolds treat anything as food? It could be insects, poisonous plants, or even meat of the same species. Are you sure you want to take it with you?”, Hubert asked.
“Forget it.”, hearing Hubert’s words, Laura almost spat out the compressed biscuits she had just eaten.
Just thinking about these things was disgusting enough, let alone eating them. It was simply unacceptable.
“Then why aren’t we going yet? There’s still a long way to go. Sophia, follow us. Be careful.”, Hubert called for everyone to set off on the road again.
Destroying a kobold camp was just a side trip. Hubert’s real goal was to pick those enchanted plants that had yet to be discovered.
Under Hubert’s lead, everyone entered the depths of the dense forest. After Laura was completely lost, they came to a small hidden valley.
The valley was not big. It was more than fifty meters long and more than ten meters wide. Both sides were steep rocks. Layers of vines blocked the entrance of the valley. If not for Hubert’s lead, just Laura and Sophia alone, they might not able to find the valley even if they passed by here.
“Wow, this place is so secretive. How did you find this place?”, Laura asked curiously.
“It’s a secret.”, Hubert said with a smile as he pushed away the vines.
The few of them entered the valley. At the end of the valley was a huge fruit tree.
The fruit tree was seven to eight meters tall. The branches that extended out almost covered half of the valley. On the branches, there were red round fruits that looked like cherries.
However, these fruits were bigger than cherries, and they were as big as ping-pong balls. They looked very interesting.
“What are these fruits? They look so interesting.”, Laura looked up at the fruits on the tree, and couldn’t help but want to climb up and pick a few to taste.
“Be careful.”, Hubert pulled Laura back.
“What’s wrong?”, Laura asked in confusion.
“Wherever this kind of enchanted plant grows, there will be enchanted creatures guarding it. These enchanted creatures treat the enchanted plant as their own private property. If you dare to touch it, you will be attacked by them.”, Hubert explained.
“But I don’t see them. Where are they?, Laura looked left and right, but still couldn’t find the enchanted creatures that Hubert had mentioned.
“Don’t just rely on your eyes to find enchanted creatures, you have to rely on your heart.”, Hubert said.
“Heart?”, Laura was a little confused.
“Close your eyes and feel where there are more magical elements.”, Hubert said.
“Magical elements?”, Laura closed her eyes and found that she didn’t feel anything.
Sophia, on the other hand, looked like she was deep in thought, but she didn’t dare to grasp the main point for a moment.
Seeing that the two of them were confused, Hubert said, “It’s okay. This is just a little trick to use the magical elements. When you reach a higher level, even if no one teaches you, you can still figure out these little tricks on your own.”
What Hubert was talking about was a technique that was summed up in his previous life. It was to determine the location of the enchanted creature by sensing the distribution of the magical elements in an area.
Of course, this technique was not as simple as Hubert said. Only those who were more sensitive to the enchanted elements could master it.
Moreover, the more sensitive one was to the magical elements, the more detailed and accurate one would be in sensing them.
“Don’t you understand? Let me do it for you.”, Hubert said and closed his eyes.
Laura and Sophia stared at Hubert closely, afraid that they would miss a detail.
Suddenly, Hubert opened his eyes and smiled. “I found you!”
As he spoke, Hubert jumped up. The Holy Light Sword in his hand suddenly stretched out and stabbed toward a soft sandy ground.
Hiss —
Accompanied by an ear-piercing screech, a huge sandworm emerged from the sandy ground. It had a big mouth and bit toward Hubert.
Seeing this, Hubert laughed. The wings on his back opened, and he instantly rose five to six meters, causing the sandworm’s mouth to bite nothing.
The sandworm kept screeching at Hubert, circling on the ground with an anxious look.
In the distance, Laura and Sophia finally saw the attacker clearly.
It was a sandworm. It looked like an enlarged earthworm, but it was much shorter and thicker than an earthworm. From its shape, it looked more like a moving cocoon.
The sandworm stared at Hubert with its two small glasses for a while. Suddenly, it spat out a few threads from its mouth and stuck them on Hubert’s body.
Hubert could not help but be shocked when he saw this. He did not expect that this sandworm had mutated and could actually spit out threads.
This was not a skill that an ordinary sandworm could have.
After the sandworm saw that the threads stuck to Hubert, it desperately pulled back, trying to pull Hubert down from the sky.
Hubert’s hands were also stuck, and he could not break free for a moment. He flew backward in the air, trying to break free from the sandworm’s binding.
Laura immediately took out her wooden staff and pointed at the sandworm’s mouth. “Fireball Spell.”
A fireball the size of a basketball whistled out and hit the sandworm’s mouth.
Whoosh!
The fireball burned intensely in the sandworm’s mouth. Not only did it cause a lot of damage to the sandworm, but most importantly, it burned off the silk thread that bound Hubert. Hubert took the opportunity to distance himself from the sandworm.
When the sandworm saw that the food in its mouth had escaped, it was anxious and angry. It gave up on Hubert and rushed toward Laura.
Sophia, who had been standing next to Laura, saw this and raised the AR15, firing two shots at the sandworm.
Bang! Bang!
Two scorching bullets shot into the sandworm’s eyes, blowing them up.
Hiss —
The sandworm let out a painful cry, rolling on the ground in pain.
Hubert had already broken free from the sandworm’s strings. He conjured a Holy Light Bomb in his hand and threw it at the sandworm.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The Holy Light Bomb left huge wounds on the sandworm’s body, causing the sandworm to cry even louder.
Laura also raised her wooden staff and released fireballs at the sandworm.
Huge fireballs burned on the sandworm’s body.
The sandworm seemed to be very afraid of fire. After being touched by the fire, it burned fiercely like it was covered with alcohol and firewood.
In less than two minutes, the sandworm was completely burned by the raging flames. Only a green crystal remained.
