Chapter 20: A Face Full of Poop
Though they had already left the room, cries and screams by Xiaoma from the neighboring room were still clearly audible.
Those made everyone feel terrible.
“What’s wrong with this woman?”
Fu Erxing couldn’t take it anymore and walked out of the room angrily.
A loud, angry roar from Erxing sounded from next door, followed by complete silence.
“Liu Guimei is going too far. She vents her anger on her son whenever she’s unhappy.” Second Fu said furiously.
It was rare for something good to happen at home. Yet she had to spoil the mood of everyone.
“Fortunately, Xiaoma is like Erxing. Otherwise, he would have been led astray by his mother long ago.” Old Mrs Fu couldn’t stand it anymore either.
It was unfortunate for Xiaoma to have a mother like her.
“She was deliberately hitting Xiaoma in front of us to show her unhappiness. She was dissatisfied with the amount of money that I gave her.” Mdm Fu knew Liu Guimei too well to know what she was up to.
She was taking that opportunity to create trouble.
She could hit her son with as much force as she wanted to.
Sooner or later, she would spoil her relationship with Erxing with that same force too.
Jiang Xinghua played with Fu Xing’er in a corner and did not dare to interrupt.
Guimei was indeed going too far.
150 copper coins was not a small sum of money.
In any case, she was quite grateful.
She knew very well that there were many mouths to feed at home, and that there were all types of household expenses to pay for. It was already generous enough that her mother-in-law still gave them money to buy things that they wanted.
If they were in another family, they might not even get to enjoy such perks at all. It was common to see mother-in-laws being extremely stingy with their daughter-in-laws in other households.
Although the Fu family was poor, they had never starved her for even a meal before, ever since she married into the family. Moreover, the family culture was friendly and peaceful in general. Her father-in-law and mother-in-law were easy to talk to and not people who would deliberately cause trouble for others. Overall, she felt pretty grateful to be in this family
“Mother, I’ll cook a red egg to help Fubao to calm down.”
She was probably shocked from the noise just now.
“Okay.”
Jiang Xinghua had always been a reliable daughter-in-law.
Having been scolded by Fu Erxing, Liu Guimei walked out of the room dejectedly to do the house-chores.
“Xinghua, where are you going with that egg?” Liu Guimei’s eyes landed on the egg held in her hand immediately. She wore a look of unfriendliness.
“Fubao was shocked by the noise. I’m boiling an egg for her to help her calm down,” Jiang Xinghua explained. She thought of something and turned around. “Guimei, your pigeon soup is almost done boiling. You should go take a look.”
As soon as she left, Liu Guimei rolled her eyes.
She muttered, “If I don’t know the family, I would have thought that she was the one who had just given birth to a daughter. Why is she so concerned about her? She’s indeed quite good at pretending.”
Hearing the laughter coming from the rest of the family from the central room, Liu Guimei felt increasingly upset.
If it weren’t for her contributions, there wouldn’t have been so many goodies at home.
Yet they ignored her contributions and instead believed that it was all due to the luck from Fu Xing’er. They were treating her as if she was some kind of a God.
If she really had the powers of a God, she would be able to send a few more pigeons crashing down from the sky just for her.
Then, she would believe it too.
Suddenly, more than ten birds flew above the house with their wings flapping loudly.
Liu Guimei looked up and was stunned.
Is she seeing things?
Normally, their family would be so unlucky that even birds don’t seem to be fond of going near their house. Either that, or the birds would fly by quickly and leave their courtyard full of bird poop.
Would they really fall from the sky for her?
“Come on, come on!”
Liu Guimei couldn’t stop smiling up at the sky. With a thud, something fell into her mouth.
She swallowed instinctively.
“Pfft, pfft, pfft! Liu Guimei belched. ”
What! The! Hell!
It was so smelly and gross that she threw up.
Nevermind. Eating some bird poop was nothing as compared to obtaining a dozen birds.
Hurry up and fall!
Liu Guimei looked up longingly at the sky. A few more thuds came crashing.
However, they were all poop.
The birds seemed to treat her as a toilet. They pooped on her entire face and head, including her mouth and even her eyes.
They pooped and flew away with expressions of satisfaction, leaving a few bird feathers in the air.
“Argh!”
Liu Guimei’s shriek sounded through the courtyard.
Damn birds! If I catch you next time, I’ll skin all of you alive and dismember you.
How infuriating!
What luck.
Others got free birds. Whereas she got free bird poop.
Liu Guimei was livid and had to return to her room to change her clothes. She scrubbed her face hard with soap till her skin almost cracked from the sheer force that she was using. Yet, after a long time scrubbing, she still smelled like bird poop.
In the central room.
“What’s wrong with her again?” The noise outside greatly annoyed Old Mrs Fu, who preferred serenity.
But of course, Fu Xing’er was an exception to Old Mrs Fu’s usual preference.
Old Mrs Fu’s heart ached immediately whenever she cried. She would not even remember that she disliked noise.
At the moment, she was gazing at Fu Xing’er lovingly. She smiled so hard that her face was almost cramping.
Jiang Xinghua held an egg wrapped in a layer of cloth and rolled it up and down Fu Xing’er’s body. She looked at Fu Xing’er affectionately and said, “Fubao, don’t be afraid.”
Her motherly love radiated from within.
The warm egg was being rolled on her skin gently like a massage.
Fu Xing’er smiled at her, closed her eyes comfortably, and hummed contentedly.
She could feel that her elder sister-in-law was sincerely treating her well from the bottom of her heart.
So gentle and magnanimous.
She liked her elder sister-in-law so much.
Jiang Xinghua’s heart skipped a few beats looking at her. She was too adorable.
Jiang Xinghua said tenderly, “I will make you new clothes later so that you can wear them beautifully.”
“Uh-uh.”
Fu Xing’er waved her little hands and feet excitedly.
Her cooperative and cute actions melted Jiang Xinghua’s heart further.
She was willing to even give her heart to her.
She would take note to make a few more sets of new clothes for Fu Xing’er using that piece of fabric, especially since a child grows quickly in size. She would volunteer to be in charge of making all of Fu Xing’er’s clothes.
Now that she had money, she decided to invest in some new shoe soles for Fu Xing’er. She planned to make a few shoes herself once Fu Xing’er started walking. And when she started growing teeth, she would buy some baby snacks to help with the discomfort of teeth growth.
Even if she used up all her money, she would just embroider more and work more more to earn more money.
She couldn’t wait to spend all her money on Fu Xing’er. She had already forgotten about her two sons.
If not for the fact that she had something on later, Jiang Xinghua really did not want to put Fu Xing’er down from her arms.
Looking at Fu Xing’er’s cute little smile, she felt increasingly hopeful for the future. No matter how tough the days were, they would be sweetened by Fu Xing’er’s presence. She felt as if there were more things to look forward to.
Mdm Fu said, “Xinghua, take these additional 50 copper coins. Didn’t you go to the provision store to buy some wine on credit earlier on? Now, go and return the money to them.
Also, let’s repay the debts that we owed to everyone in the village. Wrap up some brown sugar and send them over alongside too. That would be to express our gratitude to them for their care for our family, and to also share the happiness from our family’s special occasion with them.”
Now that she had money, she would quickly repay the debts that the family had owed. She had felt anxious and pressured by the constant debts on her shoulders everyday. Now that she could repay them, she felt much lighter.
She continued, “Regarding the eggs and brown sugar that we borrowed from your Aunt Wang’s family–return those to her too. Also, bring a pigeon over and say that it’s my thanks to her. Tell her to also save some fresh goat milk for us every day from now on. We’ll pay for it according to the price that she usually sells to others.”
It was enough to give some brown sugar to the other villagers as gifts. However, Wang Hua has been very kind to the family and helped them many times in the past. They must send a pigeon over.
Moreover, the goat milk from her was very fresh and the best for her daughter’s daily consumption.
Anyone in the family could suffer but her precious daughter.
“Yes, Mother. I’ll head off now.”
Jiang Xinghua caressed Fu Xing’er’s face lovingly. “I’ll hug you after I finish my work later.”
Ok! See you!
Fu Xing’er waved her little arms, saying goodbye to her.
Everyone in the room watched on with big grins.
Second Fu could only crane his neck and watch from the side. Ever since his careless mistakes just now, he was afraid that his daughter would dislike him. Hence, he didn’t dare to come too close.
“Old man, why are you standing so far away? Come here.” Mdm Fu stroked Fu Xing’er’s chin playfully, “Fubao, can you forgive your daddy’s unintentional mistakes just now? He dotes on you more than anyone else.”
Second Fu looked at his daughter eagerly, his entire expression screaming the words “please forgive me”.
Fu Xing’er was really shocked just now when he dropped her.
However, now looking at how cautious her undependable dad was acting around her, she found him pitiful.
He must be overjoyed to have a daughter at such an old age.
Alright.
Fu Xing’er made a few hums. Mdm Fu understood what she meant. “Come over quickly. Our daughter is calling for you.”
“Ah! Okay, okay, okay.” Second Fu was so nervous that he almost fell while moving forward.
It was simply a pathetic sight to behold.
Fu Xing’er couldn’t stop giggling.
Fu Laoer smiled sheepishly. As long as his daughter was happy, all was well.
He even pretended to fall a few more times to make her smile. He succeeded and Fu Xing’er giggled loudly.
