Chapter 22: The Beast Counterattacks
If it was in the past, people would have disapproved of such praise.
Now they had watched David’s growth and felt that he was deserving of it.
Everyone could see whether a person worked hard or not.
David had once again subverted their understanding and shocked them.
At this moment, Horace was in a very bad situation. Right under his nose was the long club that was just inches away.
It’s front was sharp. A few centimeters forward and it would pierce his neck and take his life.
Sweat trickled down Horace’s forehead. It had been many years since he had been in such a sorry state.
He had thought that this island would be a stage for him to demonstrate his strength. Who would have known that he would suffer such a blow right from the start.
David didn’t move. He stared coldly at Horace. As time passed, his gaze grew colder.
There was now even more sweat on Horace’s forehead. At the same time he realized that the stick had inched closer.
Seeing that it was about to penetrate his throat, Horace could no longer hold on. His legs went weak, and he knelt on the ground, begging, “Please spare my life!”
The three people with varying injuries looked at Horace in shock.
All this time, Horace had been a god to them, as if he could do anything.
However, at this moment, he was actually kneeling down before such a young man and begging for mercy.
David hadn’t moved the entire time. His aim was to defeat the man mentally.
He did not believe that Horace was not afraid of death.
This group of people easily took people’s lives yet tried all means to escape from the prison. Wasn’t it simply because they want to live?
He retracted his club and said indifferently, “When you’re old, you should have the consciousness that you’re becoming obsolete.”
Horace was slightly stunned. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
David didn’t want to waste too much time on these people. He couldn’t bring himself to kill them even if he had to.
He swept his gaze over this group of people and left coolly.
The three others did not dare to step forward.
In the livestream, there were as many comments as before.
“David is so handsome, my prince charming.”
“He was so aggressive just now. I could feel his dominance through the screen.”
“I have to admit he’s right. So what if they’re murderers? They’re old.”
“These people are no match for him. David has nothing to worry about in the future.”
While the comments flooded the screen, his livestream was filled with gift notifications.
From the beginning till the end, they never stopped.
David had only taken a few steps and wasn’t too far away when he heard a piercing sound.
“Hiss…” This sound was like an electric wave, piercing through one’s eardrums and striking straight in the head.
David suddenly stopped in his tracks and held his head. He felt an intense pain.
At the same time, Horace and company did the same.
“Shit, that thing woke up while we weren’t paying attention,” Ricky held his head and said in panic.
“Quick, go back and subdue it. We can’t let it escape,” Carpenter urged as he headed northwest.
Horace and Billy did not stop either. They endured the pain in their heads and ran to their lodging not far away.
David had no idea what had happened or what the situation was.
Just as he was about to leave, the piercing sound came again.
This time, the sound wave was even stronger than the previous one. It was as though it was struggling intensely.
What the hell was this?
Just its voice alone that powerful?
David was shaken. As curious as he was, he knew this kind of magical attack was difficult to deal with.
Ricky and Carpenter led the way back to their camp, where a scrawny beast was tethered to a tree with vines.
It was not very large, and had a head that resembled a rat.
His body was long and his front and back legs were perfectly proportioned, filled with muscles.
Its skin was a dark green, which soon turned into a dark red and then purple in the next moment.
The color of its body kept changing, and his feet kept struggling, trying to break free from the rope.
Carpenter clutched his head, which felt like it had been pierced by a steel nail. “We have to take care of it now while it’s weak,” he told Ricky.
Earlier, they had accidentally caught this wild beast. They were especially excited that they were finally able to eat meat.
Unexpectedly, they encountered David just as they had tied up the unconscious beast.
Capturing the wild beast gave them confidence and excitement.
In the end, they did not expect David to be even more terrifying than a beast.
Ricky nodded without hesitation. He picked up the stick beside him and walked toward the beast.
After the previous two roars, the wild beast could no longer produce such piercing sounds.
It could only stay where it was and bare its teeth non-stop at them, threatening them to stay away.
Carpenter and the rest of the gang had been feeling frustrated after they’d been forced to admit defeat in front of David just now.
If they couldn’t even kill a wild beast now, they might as well die.
The two of them quickly reached the beast and struck its head.
The beast was not very agile. It dodged the first hit but did not manage to do so for the second time.
Thump…
The upper half of its body took a forceful hit and it fell to the ground in pain, struggling without end.
A painful howl escaped its throat, but there was nothing it could do.
Seeing this, Carpenter heaved a sigh of relief. “I thought there would be more, turns out that this is all it can do.”
Ricky’s whole body relaxed, and he smiled. “It’s just a wild beast. Not surprising.”
Horace and Billy joined them, relieved to see the dying beast sprawled on the ground.
Billy thought of the humiliation he had just suffered. Coupled with the provocation from sound waves released by this beast, he felt extremely upset.
He took the stick from Carpenter’s hand and stalked angrily toward the beast.
He hit the beast’s body. “How dare you not behave! How dare you resist! Continue resisting!”
Several times, he struck the beast’s head, before finally hitting its upper body.
He did not notice that the beast’s eyes had suddenly turned white, like white light.
Nor did he realize that a portion of her strikes had landed on the vines.
After Billy vented his anger, he snorted. “I’ll let you off this time for the delicious meat on your body.”
Ricky said, “Why don’t we just kill it? Otherwise, it won’t be fresh when it dies later.”
Horace nodded. “You guys go and deal with it.”
The three of them nodded.
The wild beast suddenly opened its eyes. Scarlet red burst out from its eyes, forming a stark contrast with the white light on its body.
Just as the three of them approached it, its body suddenly sprang up like a bolt of lightning and rushed in front of them.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
The three of them absolutely did not realize what was happening. They only felt a piercing pain from their necks and their bodies seemed to have lost their strength.
Horace saw them stop. When he looked towards the beast that had suddenly disappeared, he was stunned.
He hurried forward to put a hand on Carpenter’s shoulder. “What happened to you? Why did it suddenly disappear?”
Just as Horace finished speaking, a white light flashed past. It landed on his arm and bit him.
Horace slapped the beast away, sending it flying out.
The beast rolled several times on the ground before stopping. It struggled several times before finally falling to the ground.
And the direction where it fell, was very close to David.
He took everything in.
