Chapter 33: Sudden Quake
David was prepared to live idly in his lodging, striving to hold out for 100 days.
With the system, it shouldn’t be difficult for him to live till through a hundred days.
He did not expect to suddenly receive his first quest and it was even an exploratory quest.
An ancient tomb, just the thought of it told him that it was eerie and terrifying inside. There were all kinds of monsters hidden in the darkness!
He checked his current skill panel.
Combat Skill—LV 5
Huntsman Skill—LV 4
Culinary Skill—LV 7
…
The only skills that could be used in battle were Combat Skill and Huntsman Skill.
In the dark environment, he would be able to see clearly and deal with emergencies.
However, he still did not know what exactly there was inside the ancient tomb, it was too dangerous if he were to head there rashly
Was there anyone he could trust, if he had to find another person?
He did not dare to leave his back to a stranger.
Suddenly, he remembered something very important.
According to the system, the quest was to find the entrance to the ancient tomb.
Did that mean that it would be considered successful as long as he found the entrance?
And the things inside would become his?
If that was the case, things would be different.
He could first take it for himself, then slowly explore it afterwards.
To check where it was true, he asked, “System, can you hear me?”
During this period of time, the system had been very businesslike.
He did not know if this system could communicate with people.
After waiting for a long time, there was still no answer. It seemed that there was no way to communicate with this system, so he could only figure it out himself.
Placing the key under his pillow, he put it out of his mind and got down to business.
Since he had agreed to their request, he would not break his promise.
One must honor his word. This was what his parents had told him when he was young.
If they continue on trading like this in the long term, at the very least, it would be much more convenient for him when it comes to the things he needed in the future.
With the first experience, his subsequent making of the straw sandals became much easier.
By noon, he had finished making three pairs of shoes. He brought them to Morton’s camp.
Clark received him warmly and was surprised to see the shoes in his hands. “You finished them so quickly?”
David said casually, “I prepared some hemp rope in advance.”
“I see.” Clark took them, walked over to Morton and Andrew, and began to try them on.
They fit perfectly on his feet. Andrew, who had not been very kind to David, gave him a thumbs-up. “You’re pretty skilled.”
Even Morton, who had always been cold, had a much warmer expression after putting on his shoes.
He had to admit that this seemingly young boy in front of him was actually so capable.
Not only could he make shoes, he could also make clay pots.
Clark patted his shoulder. “The shoes are comfortable. I’m very satisfied.”
David didn’t want to stay long. “Then I’ll get going.”
“Wait a minute.” Clark clung to his shoulder enthusiastically. “We’re baking pottery too. What do you think?”
David chuckled. “You want me to give you some pointers?”
Clark nodded with a smile. “That’s right. Didn’t you succeed? We want to learn from your experience.”
They had learned how to fire pottery before they came to the island.
It looked very simple. They just needed to shape the clay soil and then put it into the fire to bake.
They attempted the method written on the Internet, but still failed even after several tries.
Knowing that David had succeeded, they wanted to get some pointers from him.
David had traded with them twice and thought they were decent people.
At the very least, they wouldn’t be like the group of people he met a few days ago who wanted to kill people for no reason and get human flesh.
He nodded and said, “Alright, sure.”
Clark’s smile grew wider. “Come on. Right over there.”
David followed Clark to the bottom of the wall and saw that they had made a fire.
There were indeed clay pots inside, but they were all shattered beyond recognition.
Looking at the amount, they probably failed many times.
He examined them carefully and picked up the fragments to take a look.
He quickly found the problem. “You guys didn’t put in any effort when you were making them. You have to be very meticulous and serious.”
Clark explained, “I was serious enough. I examined them very carefully, but they still cracked in the end.”
David looked again. If it wasn’t for the fact that he hadn’t done a good job earlier, it was something else.
He looked at Clark and said, “Tell me about your production process.”
“That’s easy. Just stir up the clay soil, mold it into the shape of a clay pot, and finally throw it into the fire to bake.”
“Wait…” David interrupted, finally realizing what the problem was. “Didn’t you use a fire to heat them up before you baked them?”
“We have to heat it up with the fire?” Clark was surprised.
“Of course. If you don’t roast them first and let them heat up, they will definitely explode when suddenly placed into high temperatures.”
Clark thought about it and felt that it made sense. He nodded quickly. “You’re right. That should be the problem.”
David nodded and reminded him, “It’s best to put them diagonally when baking. If you put them too levelly, they’ll split open if the heat can’t dissipate.”
Clark said in understanding, “Okay, I got it. I’ll try again.”
David saw that it was getting late and decided to leave first.
The people in the livestream seemed especially harmonious.
“David’s such a helpful guy. I can’t believe he’d go into all this detail.”
“Wasn’t he a warm-hearted person from the start? Look, he even saved a couple.”
“If everyone is so polite to him, they’d get to learn a lot of skills from him. It won’t be difficult to last for a hundred days.”
“The worst scenario would be running into selfish people like Anthony and Horace who’ll kick him to the curb after using him.”
“Speaking of Anthony, I think I saw him in another livestream yesterday. His leg seems to have been crippled and he became a lame.”
“Really? Retribution came so quickly?”
“Great news!”
David saw that it was not too late yet, so he went to look around the traps.
Then, he realized that there were many small animals in the trap.
Wild hares, pheasants, bamboo rats, and so on. There were many species.
He found it very strange. A few days ago, it was very difficult to catch these things. Why were there so many of them all of a sudden?
Could it be due to the increase in his Huntsman that those small animals specially came here?
David found it incredulous. More than anything, he was puzzled.
Just as he was feeling puzzled, the ground he was standing on suddenly shook.
This feeling was not particularly obvious. If not for his sharp senses, he would not have noticed it under normal circumstances.
What was going on?
An earthquake?
