Extraordinary Voyage - Chapter 34
Chapter 34: Trap
By then, everyone, including the deputy leader of the Shark-Tooth Pirates and the invincible White Shark Skook, would be nothing to him.
He would have the ability to go anywhere he wanted to and build his own pirate group. He would no longer need to follow others.
Most importantly… To get away from the crazy leader… as fat as possible!
Looking at the black sculpture, he knew very well that this shipwrecked sculpture hid an evil spirit filled with hatred for order and civilization and always wanted to take revenge on the human world.
However, his ignorance, confidence, and desperation gave him the confidence to suppress it completely after his transfer.
“With it, I will definitely be able to become a powerful Extraordinary and eventually become the pirate king of the Black Ocean!”
Greed made him desperate, just because the secret ocean treasure was too attractive.
Every time a warship of a civilized country was sunk, the pirate ship which had the warship under their possession would be able to obtain a certain amount of bonus. As long as he kept hunting for warships, it would be possible for their pirate ship to become a legendary one.
With the Shipwreck Mourner, an Extraordinary profession that symbiosed with ships, Bech was confident that he would become the king of the Black Ocean sooner or later.
All of that led him to make the decision to openly attack that warship, and after succeeding once, he would cast a wide net in the waters to hunt for his prey!
…
“Captain, the people on the lookout have informed us that some of the ship’s discarded trash has been found in the ocean. We’re chasing in the right direction!” The first mate on the Warrior reported to his captain excitedly.
“Hahaha, let the boatswain continue proceeding at full speed, don’t let this little mouse escape.”
“Yes, Captain!”
“Huff… Huff…”
After that, loud, energetic shouts were heard. The crew were extremely excited and acted as though they were about to get the reward.
Their captain had been telling them that One-Eyed Bech had suffered great losses after battling with a warship and would definitely not beat them. If the crew were able to find One-Eyed Bech, they would be able to defeat him, and every crew member who contributed would be rewarded.
In fact, the captain of the Warrior was genuinely capable of reaching his current position. He was not fooling the crew but made a reasonable judgment based on common sense. He was also confident that his judgment would not be wrong.
The wind direction and speed were perfect and the Warrior was able to run up to six knots. After two hours of separation from the Silver Wing, she finally caught up with the black-sailed pirate ship “as they wanted”.
The pirate ship was anchored on the side of Rock Island, seemingly not expecting to be spotted at all. They only began to raise their anchor and sail when the crew members saw the Warrior approaching in full force.
They were hastily responding to the battle!
The morale of the sailors on the Warrior was boosted when they saw the pirates running away in panic. They turned directly downwind to prepare to block the path that the pirate ship wanted to take during their escape.
They were ready!
Swoosh! “Do they really think they can beat us? These idiots fell into our trap and don’t even know it.” The pirate cadres hiding on the pirate ship sneered as they looked at the Warrior as if she was a sheep ready to be slaughtered.
Since all the power of a warship depended on the wind, the wind direction was extremely important for the warship in a naval battle. There was no absolute superiority between upwind and downwind, as each had its own advantages in the respective tactics.
Although the Warrior could open both layers of their muzzles and attacked with full force to stop their enemies from escaping, they did not expect to fall into the pirates’ trap.
One-Eyed Bech put down the monoculars in his hand.
“Gargon, the prophecy was accurate this time. You can take all the captured sailors!” One-Eyed Bech was extremely satisfied with the prophecy of the Gargon this time and promised him his desired reward before he even began the battle.
“Gagaga, thank you, Captain.” The old, brown-skinned man who had a wrinkled face and was wearing all kinds of bone ornaments opened his wrinkled mouth and laughed strangely. His black tongue, black teeth, and black mouth made him look like a black mamba snake— terrifying and disgusting.
“Open the cannons, slow down a bit, don’t scare our guests away.”
“Yes, Captain!”
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The fierce gun battle began. With the artillery shells flying all over the place, masts breaking, unlucky men were crushed to pieces on both ships.
“Ah!!!”
“My leg…”
Regardless of who was the hunter and who was the prey, a gun battle at sea was brutal. This was fair to both the pirates and the navy.
The pirate ship made use of their advantage with the wind to slowly approach the Warrior. They were ready to fight with their lives.
The Warrior wanted to fully utilize their weapons on the warship.
“Steady, Artillery Captain, shoot all our reserved weapons. Trying to fight with me, over my dead body!”
“Yes, Captain!”
In the midst of the gunfire, the two ships gradually moved out of their original zones. If they passed the ring that was extended from the Rocky Island, they would return to deeper waters.
At this moment, something strange happened.
The sails on the pirate ship were gradually retracted and their ship began to slow down.
“What are they doing?”
The bearded captain of the Warrior put down his monocular. He could not understand the motive of the pirates, but they had to slow down in order to ensure the range of the guns.
“Boatswain, lower…”
Bam! With a loud bang, the Warrior shook and the powerful force threw many sailors on deck into the sea.
“Oh no, we hit a reef!!”
The shouts of the crew made the bearded captain’s face turn white. He had been so focused on stopping the pirate ship from escaping that he had forgotten to take note of his surroundings and made the most unforgivable mistake.
The crew on board panicked.
The bearded captain knew the consequences of losing their motivation in a chase. He closed his eyes and said in pain, “Keep firing to stop the pirate ship from approaching, send a distress signal and inform everyone on the ship to wait for Colonel Gull’s rescue!”
It was a difficult choice for someone arrogant like him. However, this was nothing compared to his life.
As the flashing, red signal shot up to the sky, the pirate ship made new moves.
Seven or eight small, special boats were lowered into the sea. Each boat had three pirates, one held a torch and two were responsible for rowing. There was also something covered in canvas in the boats.
This time, without needing the command from their captain, the experienced sailors knew what the pirates wanted to do. They f*cking wanted to set their ship on fire!
What kind of hatred was that? Their ship had already struck a reef and they wanted to burn the ship?!
“Quick, fire and sink those boats!” the Artillery Captain commanded, and the crew reloaded the ammunition and fired desperately.
However, because of their situation, the Warrior was tilted and their guns were all facing the sky. They managed to shoot two boats when they just began to move, but as the boats moved closer to the ship, the guns could no longer reach them.
Moreover, in this situation, the gunshots on the pirate ship did not stop. They continued shooting and caused the sailors on the Warrior to be in distress. The lifeboats were also set on fire and the sailors had no hope of escaping.
“Insane people, they are insane. They prepared so many flammables on the ship, aren’t they scared of burning themselves down?!”
However, no amount of cursing could save the Warrior.
