Chapter 16: Oh No, An Earth-rank Sword Technique!

Ye Lingyun’s voice was as calm and frigid as ice, carrying over the crowd. Everyone was shocked.
Su’en, too, looked at her in surprise. He’d thought of his junior as taciturn, cold and aloof to outsiders. He hadn’t expected her to make such bold declarations. However, when he recalled Ye Lingyun’s aptitude and the Legacy cultivation technique he had given her, perhaps there was a basis to her confidence after all.
Su’en knew the Nether Saber Sect disciples only cultivated Profound-rank saber techniques. Only their masters could cultivate Earth-rank cultivation techniques, if at all–certainly not the disciples in front of him. Even if Ye Lingyun was only at the early-stages of the Crystallization Realm, they were no match for her!
“One of you? Against all of us?” Wei Pan glared at Ye Lingyun with malice after her words had sunken in. Although her lovely face had caught him momentarily off-guard, her arrogance had infuriated him too much to pay attention to her appearance. “You’re only in the early-stages of the Crystallization Realm, and you dare speak to us like that? How cocky can you be?” he sneered.
Did this girl from the Dao Sect think that she could act all high-and-mighty just because she was at the Crystallization Realm? Had the Chen family not informed the Dao Sect of their opponents’ cultivation levels? It had to be common knowledge that all disciples of the Nether Saber Sect were at the early-stages of the Crystallization Realm or above.
“Senior, there’s no need to waste your breath on them.” One of the disciples of the Nether Saber Sect stepped forward, eyes alight with murderous intent. “The Nether Saber Sect hasn’t made headlines recently, so even the pathetic Dao Sect thinks they can look down on us. Let me teach them a lesson!”
“Permission granted.” Wei Pan nodded. “Give them a few happy souvenirs to crawl away with.”
“Yes, Senior!”
The disciple’s name was Wang Sen. It had been decades since he had joined the Nether Saber Sect, but he was only at the early-stages of the Crystallization Realm. He would make them eat their words–without a shred of mercy!
With a dark expression, Wang Sen walked up, brandished his machete, and pointed it at Ye Lingyun. “Go on. Let’s see if the Dao Sect can put their money where their mouth is!”
Ye Lingyun didn’t say anything. Slowly, she drew her sword, a faint aura of lightning rippling off its surface.
“Wild Wave Saber Technique!”
Without hesitation, Wang Sen charged at Ye Lingyun, machete in hand. The swinging machete stirred up a gust of wind, ready to tear his opponent apart.
“Wang Sen’s saber technique has gotten stronger!”
Not taking the duel seriously, the disciples of the Nether Saber Sect began chatting amongst themselves. How worthy of their attention could a girl in the early-stage Crystallization Realm be?
“That little girl won’t be able to resist Junior Wang Sen’s saber technique. It’s a shame about that pretty face, though.”
As if on cue, Ye Lingyun moved. Golden lightning spread throughout her body, making her look strikingly regal. There was nothing natural about it.
“Golden Lightning Sword Technique, Level One: Descend!”
Ye Lingyun stabbed her blade forward, and a huge lightning dragon appeared in the air with a noise like thunder.
Instantly, Wang Sen began to waver under its lightning aura.
“Damn it!”
Wang Sen felt his body go paralyzed under the lightning dragon’s gaze. If it even so much as approached him, it would result in one of two things: severe injury or death!
“What kind of technique is this?”
Before he could think further, the lightning dragon roared and charged at him–fast as lightning, loud as thunder.
“Bloody hell!”
With all his strength, Wang Sen summoned every last drop of True Qi in his body. His Wild Wave Saber Technique became even more vigorous, a last desperate attempt at defense.
But how could his Profound-rank cultivation technique block an Earth-rank inheritance technique: the Golden Lightning Sword Technique?
The moment the two auras came into contact, the saber wind Wang Sen had summoned broke apart. The lightning dragon descended upon Wang Sen like a storm. Lightning surged through his body, and blood burst from his lips.
The lightning dragon exploded.
Wang Sen flew backward and hit the ground.
When everyone saw his appearance, they couldn’t help but gasp. Wang Sen’s entire body was charred black. It was impossible to tell if he was alive.
For a moment, there was absolute silence–especially among the disciples of the Nether Saber Sect. They had been so certain Wang Sen would win, only for him to be crushed with a single move. For all they knew, he was dead.
“Junior!”
The disciples rushed over to help Wang Sen up. When they made contact with his severely wounded body, a numbing sensation shot through them.
“What move was that? It’s too powerful!”
Wei Pan’s dark expression turned grave. “Could it be an Earth-rank cultivation technique?” The saber technique he cultivated was of a high-grade Profound-rank cultivation technique, but even it couldn’t compare to an Earth-rank technique.
“It really is an Earth-rank cultivation technique!” Elder Lin said grimly. “The Sword of Spells!” The Sword of Spells was a sword technique with the power of mimicry. Not only could one use it to cast talismans, but execute sword techniques, too.
“Isn’t the Dao Sect at the bottom of the Heavenly Domain? How can they have an Earth-rank cultivation technique?” Wei Pan was in disbelief. Only then did he realize that he had underestimated his opponent and the strength of the Dao Sect.
It was unfathomable–how had an early-stage Crystallization Realm disciple cultivated such a rare Earth-rank cultivation technique?
According to his understanding, only disciples who had made huge contributions to the sect were qualified to cultivate Earth-rank cultivation techniques. Even he wasn’t qualified to cultivate one yet!
“Although the Dao Sect is weak now, they produced three Heavenly Lords in the past,” Elder Lin said. He was silent for a moment before continuing. “The power of an Earth-rank cultivation technique is already beyond the imagination of ordinary people. If a cultivator’s grasp on it is sound enough, they can bypass huge distances to fight their enemies. It’s up to you now. The rest of them won’t be able to stand up to her.”
“I understand.”
If this girl from the Dao Sect could defeat Wang Sen, his other juniors wouldn’t be her match, either.
Only he had a chance against her.
He hoped that this girl wasn’t a master of Earth-rank cultivation techniques just yet!
