Chapter 6: Low-grade Earth-rank Cultivation Technique, Golden Lightning Sword Technique!

Su’en went to a remote area and clicked on the Opportunity Guidance function of the system, which said:
[Ding!]
[Opportunity Guidance function has been activated.]
Su’en studied the Opportunity Guidance function and took in how it worked: If an opportunity appeared near him, a virtual line would appear to guide him towards it.
The moment he activated the function, Su’en realized right then and there that there was a white dotted line to his right. As he moved, the white line remained linked to him.
“Excellent. Let’s see what we have in store!”
Su’en followed the white line. Eventually, it led him to a huge, magnificent ancient building.
The Daoist scripture library.
It was where the Dao Sect stored their cultivation techniques, and was also the foundation of the Dao Sect–albeit a shadow of its former self.
The Daoist sects had been embroiled in several wars in the past, ranging from violent conflicts to minor disputes, and much knowledge of high-level martial arts had been lost. Now, the highest grade cultivation technique left in the Sutra Pavilion was only a Profound-rank. Not even an Earth-rank cultivation technique remained. Otherwise, the future of the Dao Sect might not look quite so bleak. Nor would they be surrounded by mockery telling them to shut down once and for all.
“Could it be that there are cultivation techniques left behind by predecessors in this place?”
Su’en was excited; the Daoist scripture library had a glorious history. Long ago, the Dao Sect had produced three Heavenly Lords! The Heaven Lord, the most powerful of them all in the Heavenly Domain–his status unrivaled.
Still deep in thought, Su’en followed the white line further inside.
The Sutra Pavilion was divided into four levels. They stored Yellow-rank, Profound-rank, Earth-rank, and Heaven-rank cultivation techniques. Or at least, they used to. Now, the third and fourth floors were empty and for storage of miscellaneous items. As for the second level, only recognized disciples like Su’en could enter it at will.
Su’en had assumed the white line would stop at the first and second levels; instead it brought him to the third level. Surrounded by junk discarded by the sect, he felt a pinch of doubt.
“Does this place really have opportunities? Or did someone leave behind an unorganized cultivation technique here?” he grumbled. However, remembering the wonders the system had worked for him, he chose to trust it and follow the white line.
All the way to a tattered book lying in a pile of dusty junk.
“Sky Region Celebrity Book?”
Su’en flipped it open and scanned its contents. There had to be some mistake. If he remembered correctly, this book contained a list of the most remarkable contestants of the various sects in the Ancient Heavenly Domain, nothing more. Certainly no opportunities he could use.
He casually flipped through the book until he reached the interlayer of the volume, where there were three pages made of different materials.
“No way…”
Anticipation stirring within him, Su’en poured his True Qi into the pages. After a while, they began to glow.
The page read: Chapter 1 {Golden Lightning Sword Technique}
The technique was of a low-grade Earth-rank!
“Earth-rank!”
Su’en was seized by a sudden tremor. From lowest to highest, the cultivation technique rankings were divided into four stages: Yellow, Black, Earth, and Heaven. The cultivation techniques of each stage were then split into three grades, namely high-grade, medium-grade, and low-grade. The higher the stage, the more power it granted. Additionally, the higher the grade, the greater the difference in the strength of one’s cultivation techniques, even within the same stage.
It was said that there were even Saint Realm cultivation techniques above the Heaven Realm. However, the Saint Realm cultivation techniques of the various sects had already disappeared long ago during the Middle Ages of the Heavenly Domain.
As time passed, almost everyone had believed that Saint Realm cultivation techniques were a mere rumor.
“It’s really a low-grade Earth-rank technique!”
The moisture in Su’en’s throat evaporated, and he gulped a few times unconsciously. The reason why the Dao Sect had declined to its current state was that all the cultivation techniques above the Earth-rank had been tested, and only high-grade Profound-rank cultivation techniques remained. One of them was the Black Lightning Sword Technique that he was cultivating now.
Stages of cultivation techniques were equivalent to a world of difference. Even a minor grade represented a significant gap in power–let alone different stages. No matter how powerful a Profound-rank cultivation technique was, it could not compare to a low-grade Earth-rank cultivation technique. They simply weren’t the same in terms of power and value.
“What’s going on? Why can’t I see the details?” Su’en frowned and turned the pages in his hands from side to side. He realized that other than the name and grade of the cultivation technique, the rest of the pages were blank.
“Could it be a Legacy cultivation technique?”
Suddenly, something occurred to him. In the cultivation world, some experts with high cultivation levels would not leave behind their own cultivation techniques. Instead, they would be engraved on special jade slips or inheritance pages. These cultivation techniques were collectively known as Legacy cultivation techniques.
If he wanted to learn this Legacy cultivation technique, he needed to drip his blood essence on the pages, or jade slips. Afterwards, once he held the item, the Legacy cultivation technique would automatically enter his consciousness.
Only by completely mastering the first move would the subsequent moves continue to manifest. These Legacy cultivation techniques were passed down from individual to individual, in order to prevent one’s secrets from being discovered by one’s enemies. Usually, Legacy cultivation techniques would be inherited by descendants of one’s sect.
“It seems that this Golden Lightning Sword Technique is a Legacy left behind by the predecessors of the Dao Sect,” Su’en muttered.
[Ding! You have successfully obtained an opportunity!]
[If you don’t give away the opportunity within two days, you will lose your Critical Compensation!]
The system’s prompt sounded, leaving Su’en speechless.
“A time limit?”
It wasn’t every day that he encountered an Earth-rank cultivation technique; he wanted to take his time to study it. However, this cultivation technique was a Legacy cultivation technique. Once he used it, it would belong to him alone, and he would not be able to give it to others.
Time constraints in mind, Su’en scanned the system’s rules for giving away opportunities. It took a while for understanding to sink in.
It turned out that there wasn’t a time limit by default. However, it would exist for opportunities found through the system’s Opportunity Guidance function. Even still, when one had exceeded the time limit, the opportunity wouldn’t disappear. He would only lose his Critical Compensation.
“Isn’t losing the Critical Compensation reward equivalent to losing a more valuable opportunity?” he grumbled. He was no fool. Although the low-grade Earth-rank cultivation technique in his hand was very tempting, he didn’t intend to keep it for himself. He had to give it away!
Shaking his head, Su’en didn’t let himself dwell on the matter. He slipped the pages containing the Legacy cultivation technique into his robes and stood to leave.
There were still two days left; there was no rush to give the opportunity away. With the Opportunity Guidance function to help him, he wanted to continue strolling around the sect to see if there were any other opportunities lying around.
If he was lucky, he might even stumble upon a higher-level cultivation technique.
With that in mind, Su’en embarked on his quest to find new opportunities in the Daoist scripture library.
