Chapter 7: Reject Me Again and I’ll Get Angry!
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
Su’en was met with disappointment as he explored the Daoist scripture library.
To his surprise, other than in the Sutra Pavilion, there were no other opportunities around!
“How far can this place have fallen from its former glory, for there to be so few opportunities here?”
Su’en felt glum, but then he remembered: Long ago, right after he had converted to the Way, he had read up on its history. The current territory of the Dao Sect wasn’t its original territory; it wasn’t that backward just yet. The Dao Sect hadn’t been able to exist in a place rich in spiritual energy, so they had been forced to move here. Its original territory was in the center of the Heavenly Domain, which thrived with spiritual energy.
It was also the current location of one of the higher-level sects: the Sky Sword Sect!
“Looks like I’ll have to pay the Sky Sword Sect a visit once I get the chance.”
Su’en looked to the center of the Heavenly Domain, full of spiritual energy. It was a paradise in its own right. There were many sects in the Heavenly Domain, but many of them were not much different from the sects in the outside world. In fact, they were even weaker than them.
There were only four powerful sects, or high-level sects: the Sky Sword Sect, Purple Star Sect, Medicine King Sect, and Blue Sea Sect.
Su’en didn’t particularly care that the Sky Sword Sect now occupied the former territory of the Dao Sect; it was a dog-eat-dog world out there. It just meant he had no choice but to become stronger than the Sky Sword Sect if he wanted to take back his original territory.
Su’en broke his gaze and decided to return to the sect. Since there were no other opportunities, he would give away the Golden Lightning Sword Technique.
As for to whom, he had no doubt: Ye Lingyun.
Amongst the disciples of the Dao Sect, although his aptitude was ordinary, his perception and understanding were exemplary. It was why he had risen to become the most senior of the disciples. But not only was his junior more talented than him, her mental abilities were also sharper. However, Su’en didn’t not know much about her background. His master hadn’t given him too many details about her, and he hadn’t pressed further.
He only knew that she came from a powerful family. Not as powerful as a high-level sect, but not that much beneath them, either.
Su’en couldn’t figure it out: Since his junior was born into an elite family, why did she choose to join the Dao Sect?
While he was thinking, he had already arrived at Ye Lingyun’s courtyard.
He gave her door a few soft knocks.
“Who is it?” A flat, quiet voice came from inside.
“It’s me,” Su’en replied.
“Senior?”
His junior sounded a little surprised. But then the door opened, revealing her beautiful face.
“How can I help you, Senior?” Ye Lingyun asked with a slightly puzzled look.
“When I was checking out the cultivation techniques in the Sutra Pavilion today, I found this technique left behind by our predecessors. I took a look and thought it suited you, so I brought it over.” Su’en pulled out the three pages of Legacy cultivation techniques from his robes.
“A technique?” Ye Lingyun looked curious. She had been to the Sutra Pavilion many times and knew the various cultivation techniques inside like the back of her hand; she’d long adopted the techniques most suited to her. It was near-impossible that she had missed one.
But since her senior put it that way, she had no choice but to accept.
“This material is rather unusual.” Ye Lingyun was taken aback by the texture of the pages. One touch and she could tell they were special. When she looked at the name and grade of the cultivation technique, her surprise only doubled.
The technique was of a low-grade Earth-rank!
{Golden Lightning Sword Technique}
A Legacy cultivation technique!
Ye Lingyun’s eyes were filled with disbelief–an Earth-rank cultivation technique! There was such a Legacy cultivation technique in the Sutra Pavilion? Her gaze swiveled to Su’en.
“I was shocked too when I found it,” Su’en said with a smile. “But then I thought about it for a while. This technique must have been left behind by a senior member of the Dao Sect, probably one of our former Heavenly Lords. So it’s not that unexpected after all.”
“I see.” Ye Lingyun felt the weight of the low-grade Earth-rank cultivation technique in her hand. An Earth-rank cultivation technique, and a Legacy one at that. Wouldn’t whoever obtained this cultivation technique either claim it for themselves, or keep it a secret?
Why would her senior give it to her?
“No. I can’t accept this cultivation technique. It’s too valuable!” Ye Lingyun shook her head in refusal, wanting to return the pages to Su’en. “You discovered this opportunity, Senior. You should cultivate it yourself. I still haven’t thanked you properly for the Foundation Establishment Pill you gave me last time. If I accept this Legacy cultivation technique, it’ll be too greedy of me!”
His junior’s words gave Su’en a headache. He hadn’t imagined that she would reject him. However, her words had given him a better understanding of her character.
Before this, he had had very little contact with his junior, other than them both striving to uphold the values of the sect. His impression of Ye Lingyun was that she was beautiful but aloof. But now, he realized that she had a sound moral character too, for her to choose to reject the rare Earth-rank cultivation technique.
That didn’t mean he could take ‘no’ for an answer, though.
How else was he going to receive the Critical Compensation from the system?’
Su’en thought about the development of their Daoist community and began to advise his junior. He pushed Ye Lingyun’s outstretched hand back to her.
“Don’t say that. You have more talent and understanding than I. In the future, your developmental potential will be greater than mine. This cultivation technique is more suitable for you. Only you will be able to harness its full power. You will be the pillar of our Daoist community in the future, not me.”
But Ye Lingyun remained unmoved. She opened her mouth, only for Su’en to cover it with his hand. This was the first time Ye Lingyun had experienced such intimate contact with a man. Her pretty face instantly turned red, and her lovely eyes widened.
If it had been anyone else but her senior, she might have already unleashed an attack on them!
But it was Su’en, and she felt no aggression–just shyness.
“Keep talking and I’ll get angry. Just focus on honing your cultivation. This is all for the future of the sect!”
Su’en’s tone was serious. He didn’t have anything else to add, nor was he interested in continuing the discussion. He knew that his junior could be truly stubborn when she set her mind on something. If he was bent on persuading her, it might take him an entire day.
He might as well just give her the cultivation technique and run!
So he did just that, striding away–leaving her to watch his attractive figure grow smaller in the distance.
