Chapter 8: Hundredfold Critical Compensation, Low-grade Heaven Realm Cultivation Technique, Divine Lightning Sword Technique!

As Su’en left, Ye Lingyun looked at the Legacy cultivation technique in her hand, stunned.
She had been born into high society, but even amongst families like hers, Earth-rank cultivation techniques were not very common. If she wanted to obtain one, there were some conditions she had to fulfill. Compared to those aristocratic families, the Dao Sect seemed even more down and out.
Ye Lingyun thought for a moment. If her talent had been mediocre and she obtained a Legacy cultivation technique, she would definitely not give it to others. In the world of cultivation, who would refuse greater power?
But her senior was different.
Ye Lingyun shook her head, gathered up her robes, and sat on a stone block in the courtyard. It was a clear day, and white clouds bobbed in the sky. In other words, exceptionally good weather.
It suddenly reminded her of where she had been born: A place where nothing mattered but profit.
…
The system’s voice sounded in Su’en’s head as he ran away.
[The transfer has succeeded!]
[Triggered Hundredfold Critical Compensation!]
[Obtained low-grade Heaven Realm cultivation technique: Divine Lightning Sword Technique!]
A hundredfold Critical Compensation? Low-grade Heaven Realm?
Su’en’s steps ground to a halt, eyes filled with shock.
He had expected the Critical Compensation reward to multiply by a dozen times–not a hundred!
With a thought, a cultivation technique manual appeared in his palm. The cultivation technique was jade-white, with wisps of Divine Lightning Qi attached to it. When he held it in his hand, he could feel his skin peeling and going numb.
“As expected of a Heaven Realm cultivation technique: Even without a secret manual, there’s still an aura of lightning surrounding it!”
Su’en was overwhelmed with ecstasy. A low-grade Earth-rank cultivation technique was rare as it was, to say nothing of a low-grade Heaven Realm technique. It was an entire stage higher than the low-grade Earth Realm technique.
In other words, his power had soared–low-grade Heaven Realm cultivation techniques were fifty times more powerful than low-grade Earth Realm cultivation techniques.
“Divine Lightning Sword Technique? Why does this name sound familiar?”
Su’en sank back into his sea of memories. He had studied the history of Daoism, and was familiar with its more famous figures. The Dao Sect had churned out many renowned cultivation masters over the years. One of them, the Divine Lightning Sword Master, had won the championship of the Dao Sect in the Heavenly Domain.
The Divine Lightning Sword Technique was his signature cultivation technique!
The Black Lightning Sword Technique that Su’en was currently cultivating had been created by imitating this long-lost technique. Had he just stumbled upon its original source?
Face coloring, Su’en turned his attention to the system.
“The Critical Compensation of a cultivation technique will be traced back to the cultivation techniques possessed by the sect. If not, it will be changed to other cultivation techniques!”
Su’en took in the information from the system interface, slowly piecing together how the Critical Compensation rewards worked. Countless martial arts forms had been created in the history of the Dao Sect, but none more advanced than from the late-stage Heaven Realm.
“If I have time, I need to pay a visit to the Sky Sword Sect. There must be many opportunities left behind by the Dao Sect there!”
Su’en took a moment to ponder the situation. During his trip, if he triggered a Critical Compensation multiplied by a thousand–or even ten thousand–he might be able to obtain a legendary Saint Realm cultivation technique! A Saint Realm cultivation technique was the stuff of legends: a technique only immortals could cultivate, and one that could rattle the Heavenly Domain itself.
Su’en considered what realm he should step into in the future, before shaking his head and forcing himself to calm down. His rose-tinted fantasies might prove to be painful in reality–unless he executed his plan slowly.
The Sky Sword Sect was one of the high-level sects; it was certain he would find powerful opportunities there. At the very least, he would be able to step into the Spirit Convocation Realm, like his master.
Su’en headed back to his courtyard. His mind was set; he was determined to continue his seclusion in the following days. The Divine Lightning Sword Technique was a Heaven Realm cultivation technique, and it wouldn’t be that simple to grasp. Although he had a solid understanding of cultivation techniques, he wasn’t confident he could master a Heaven Realm cultivation technique just yet. He was prepared to invest a great deal of time into the task.
When he returned to his courtyard, Su’en opened the manual and began to study it carefully. The Black Lightning Sword Technique he had cultivated borrowed heavily from the Divine Lightning Sword Technique,so the latter shouldn’t be that difficult to comprehend.
However, when he got into the nitty-gritty, he discovered just how complex the Divine Lightning Sword Technique really was.
There were still some differences between his own technique and the original one. For example, the Black Lightning Sword Technique was more fluid in its movement, with seven forms in total. But the Divine Lightning Sword Technique, as he discovered after digesting the entire manual, only had two forms: one for offense, one for defense.
During his research, Su’en discovered that almost all seven forms of the Black Lightning Sword Technique had been woven together using threads of the Divine Lightning Sword Technique.
“I wonder who imitated the Divine Lightning Sword Technique with such success. They must be a true master!” Su’en sighed at the sheer similarity between the two techniques.
After flipping through the Divine Lightning Sword Technique manual for a while, Su’en gained some idea of how to cultivate both its offensive and defensive forms.
However, first, he had to nurture a Sword Embryo with lightning attributes in his Energy Sea, which required one to absorb the Divine Lightning that existed between heaven and earth. Divine Lightning Breath was one of the most destructive attributes in the world–at high cultivation levels, it could destroy a whole mountain and the sect which resided on it!
Hence, the Divine Lightning Sword Technique was most suitable for condensing sword cores.
When he was certain he understood the technique, Su’en sat cross-legged on the bed and began to recite the incantation of the Divine Lightning Sword Technique, sensing the aura of Divine Lightning around him. Streaks of Divine Lightning entered his body, making him go numb.
When he had absorbed a certain amount of Divine Lightning Breath and begun to condense the Sword Embryo, the breath of lightning in his body became restless.
It kept surging through Su’en, forcing him to persevere through clenched teeth. He mobilized the True Qi in his body and chased the aura of lightning into his Energy Sea, step by step, to condense the Sword Embryo. He succeeded, and was about to begin the condensation process when a terrifying explosion resounded from his Energy Sea.
Su’en felt as if his entire body was about to explode from the breath of lightning.
Blood sprayed out of his mouth.
“This Heaven Realm cultivation technique is a pain to cultivate. Lucky for me, I’ve already condensed some Divine Lightning Breath–it should make things easier from now on!”
Su’en came to the above conclusion after ensuring he had sustained no physical injuries. Then he closed his eyes again, absorbed the breath of lightning, and continued cultivating.
Fortunately, he had condensed a portion of the lightning aura earlier, and it became tame enough after entering his body.
This time, he managed to enter the realm of cultivating the Divine Lightning Sword Technique without further harm.
