Chapter 9: Divine Lightning Sword Qi, Heavenly Domain Ceremony!
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
Time flew by, and in a flash, three months had passed. Nothing out of the ordinary happened in the sect then.
Although Chen Huiran had been severely injured by Su’en, the Mountain Sea Sect hadn’t sent anyone over to take revenge. There was an unwritten rule in the Heavenly Domain: The elders wouldn’t interfere in conflicts between disciples, unless they threatened to get out of hand.
The door opened slowly, and a young man in a white robe strolled out. He had a delicate face and confident eyes.
It was none other than Su’en.
Now his seclusion was over, and those three months had transformed him. When he walked, an unconcealable aura of lightning radiated from his body, seeming to crackle with the power to split the earth in two!
“I’ve finally mastered it!” Su’en exhaled slowly, his eyes filled with joy. As expected of a Heaven Realm cultivation technique, the cultivation process had been rather challenging. If not for his sound grasp of cultivation, which had allowed him to comprehend the Divine Lightning Breath technique’s formula and refine it, it would have taken him even longer.
Su’en glanced at the Energy Sea of his body, where a white sword-shaped phantom was floating, surrounded by pale energy.
It was the Divine Lightning Sword Embryo. However, it was still in its most basic state. To cultivate the Sword Embryo, in addition to understanding its incantations, one also needed a large amount of Divine Lightning.
The Heavenly Domain was a cultivation process; its aura teemed with Divine Lightning. But that was still too little for Su’en. Otherwise, just practicing the basics wouldn’t take him so long.
Many high-level cultivation techniques in the Heavenly Domain required special auras, such as the Five Elements Qi. Therefore, mansions with special auras were essentially the territory of higher-level sects. Some of the other sects either occupied abandoned parts of the Heavenly Domain or purchased mansions from the higher-level sects. As for the special auras themselves, they were ludicrously expensive.
“If I cultivate in a place with dense Divine Lightning Breath, I could probably finish cultivating a Divine Lightning Sword Embryo in no time!”
Su’en sighed, but there was nothing he could do. The issue wasn’t exclusive to the Dao Sect; some of the weaker sects didn’t have their own special blessed lands either.
Su’en shook his head, pushing his thoughts aside, and formed a sword between his fingers.
White Sword Qi with a Divine Lightning Aura manifested from his fingertips. A hundred of them in total, swarming the space around Su’en!
The Divine Lightning Sword Aura blasted apart the stone blocks in the courtyard with its power. A few stray leaves vanished in the blink of an eye.
The blocks in his courtyard were also constructed of special stone, as was befitting Su’en’s status in the sect. The stone was so hard, in fact, that years of wear had hardly left a mark on it.
One could see how powerful Divine Lightning Sword Qi was.
Su’en did a mental tally of his strength. If he met an early-stage Golden Core expert now, he might just be their match. The Golden Core Realm was the realm above the Crystallization Realm. Su’en’s master was at the perfected late-stages of the Golden Core Realm, and had already uncovered his inner spirituality.
Su’en lowered his finger and retracted all the Divine Lightning Sword Qi into his body. The intimidating aura around him disappeared, and he reverted back to being a kindly senior.
“Senior!”
Suddenly, a disciple’s voice sounded outside the courtyard.
“I’m Zhao Ritian, a disciple of the Labor Hall.”
“The Labor Hall?”
Su’en contemplated the name for a moment. The Hall of Labor was where the Dao Sect handled things. Usually, disciples were in charge of miscellaneous matters, and the elders would only intervene in major issues.
“Come in!” Su’en guessed that something must have happened.
“Of course.”
Zhao Ritian pushed open the door and entered the courtyard. The moment he entered, he felt a pain in his body, as if he were being torn apart. He recoiled.
Taking note of Zhao Ritian’s condition, Su’en waved his hand and released his True Qi, absorbing the remnant Divine Lightning Aura in the courtyard. Zhao Ritian was an ordinary disciple, and his cultivation was only at the late-stage Qi Refinement Realm. He wouldn’t be able to withstand the Divine Lightning Aura.
Awe filled Zhao Ritian’s face at how effortlessly his senior dismissed that sensation of being torn apart. Although he didn’t know what had happened here, he was sure his senior’s power had grown once again. When he last saw his senior, he hadn’t been as dignified as he was now.
“What is it?” Su’en smiled.
“Senior, we have a visitor from the higher-level sects,” Zhao Ritian answered.
“Oh? What do they want?” Su’en frowned. Which high and mighty sect wasn’t high and mighty would deign to send one of their own to a weaker sect?
“They said that in a year’s time, the Heavenly Domain Ceremony will be held. They want us to choose our disciples in advance to participate.”
The Heavenly Domain Ceremony?
Su’en’s pupils dilated.
The Heavenly Domain Ceremony was a competition between the younger generation of cultivators. The final winner would be qualified to become the new Heaven Lord of the Heavenly Domain in a hundred years–the ruler of Jingzhou!
The ceremony was held once every 800 years, and the participating disciples could not be older than 30 years old. Therefore, the conditions for participation were extremely harsh, as the Heavenly Domain would invest a huge amount of resources into the training of the winner, as well as their sect in the following year. Therefore, to most sects, the Heavenly Domain Ceremony was an opportunity to advance in prestige.
However, winning the competition was no mean feat. There were many prodigies in the Heavenly Domain, especially among the higher-level sects, and hence countless powerful combatants. It was almost impossible to wrench the first place spot away from them. In the past few thousand years, the winners of the Heaven Domain Ceremony had always been from the higher-level sects, and nowhere else.
It was partly why the balance of power between the sects had remained so stagnant. For nearly a thousand years, almost no one had been able to break that tradition–or the rivalry between the sects, for that matter. High-level sects had plenty of cultivation resources at their disposal; it was no wonder they could churn out disciples far stronger than those from the weaker sects. Especially if said disciples reaped more cultivation resources for them afterwards.
Su’en had checked the past records of the Heavenly Domain Ceremony. Among the current high-level sects, the Purple Star Sect had been a weaker sect in the past.
However, during the Heavenly Domain Ceremony two thousand years ago, an especially talented prodigy had been amongst their ranks–a double win for the Purple Star Sect.
They had followed in the footsteps of this disciple and obtained a large amount of cultivation resources. Subsequently, they had been promoted from a low-level sect to a high-level sect!
