Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Where’s My Home?
Whoosh.
In a flash, An Wen darted out of the cave.
When he felt sunlight shining onto his body, he finally felt a sense of safety and security.
Nevertheless, he still picked up the Fang Tian Hua Halberd immediately and stood ready more than five meters away from the opening of the cave, waiting for the monster to appear.
The monster could not survive in light anyway, giving it no change to leave the cave.
Pant, pant…
Lub dub, lub dub…
As An Wen stood still panting heavily, his heart was beating fast and hard. Large beads of perspiration were trickling down his forehead.
In less than 30 seconds, An Wen’s greatest strength had erupted within him.
Now that he stopped running, he felt as if his heart was about to jump out of his chest.
It was too terrifyingly scary.
Indeed, An Wen had prepared himself for any possible monster appearances before he entered the cave.
However, the instant he heard the monster’s roars, he could not help but act frightened – it was a human’s natural instinct.
“Roar!”
“Sizz, sizz…”
The roaring sounded once more – it was not far from the opening of the cave now.
Listening carefully, An Wen could hear the sound of something scraping against the ground. The monster was crawling.
Hold on… crawling?
The sound of something scraping against the ground?
An Wen was momentarily stunned. If he remembered correctly, most crawling monsters were all low-leveled.
When the monsters attacked the city, he did not notice any strong monsters that crawled on the ground.
“In that case, does that mean that I was so frightened by a small and weak monster?”
An Wen was slightly embarrassed.
“Safety comes first; pride is not as important. Even if it’s just a small and weak monster, what would happen if I am unable to win a fight against one?”
An Wen comforted himself as he felt much better.
He was human too!
Humans should be more optimistic.
“Sizz sizz… Sizz sizz…”
The scraping sounds gradually made their way towards An Wen. He could already make out the general outline of the monster.
It was very long…
It was wriggling on the ground…
It had teeth growing all over its head and face…
As the entire monster appeared clearly in view, An Wen’s face turned black immediately.
“Roar!”
The monster roared at An Wen, remaining inside the cave where sunlight could not reach.
“What are you roaring for, huh! What’s the point of roaring so loud?!”
Upon seeing the monster clearly, An Wen turned extremely furious at himself.
It was just a small and weak monster; the lowest-leveled monster. Yet, he was almost frightened to his wits.
Absolutely great!
An Wen became filled with fury as he flung the Fang Tian Hua Halberd forward at the monster.
Bam!
The small monster was killed in one blow by the Fang Tian Hua Halberd and instantly exploded at its position.
“What on Earth!”
An Wen was now even more furious. He had barely even vented his anger and the small monster was already killed.
That was…
No, I’m not angry…
The world is beautiful, and yet I am so ill-tempered, this is bad, this is bad…
An Wen sat on the floor and began taking deep breaths.
After more than ten minutes, he finally calmed down.
“It’s actually a good thing to see such small and weak monsters again.”
An Wen was speaking wisely; after all, the appearance of the monster signified a setting of the game world.
Recalling the first time such a small monster appeared, back when he was building his initial wooden house. Only when he constructed more and more buildings did the monsters also grew stronger.
Now that he encountered such a small monster again meant that another mechanic of the game had been triggered.
“When I entered the cave of the mountain just now, no monsters appeared. However, after I mined a block of ore, the small monster appeared.”
“So, does that mean that the monster’s appearance was related to me mining the ore?”
At that thought, An Wen was essentially certain that the small monster had appeared because of him mining the ore.
As long as he did not mine the ore, monsters should not appear.
Then came the question.
Was the strength of the monsters related to the quantity of the ore mined? Or was it related to the type of ore mined?
“Who cares what it’s related to? I’m not going to mine ore anymore anyway.”
After that adventure, An Wen gained a certain self-awareness.
Even though he had a strong physique and extraordinary combat power, he was still not suited to engage in such adventurous work.
It was a problem of personality, not capability.
“Forget it, it’s more practical for me to remain as an ordinary, lazy person.”
An Wen stood up and entered the cave once again, carrying the Fang Tian Hua Halberd.
He did not do anything else this time, apart from retrieving the ore that he threw out previously, as well as the small remote-controlled car, before leaving the cave immediately.
Indeed, as he had guessed, no monster appeared.
He then packed his belongings and put on his backpack.
Carrying the Fang Tian Hua Halberd, An Wen walked exaggeratedly back to the camp at a leisurely pace.
The entire journey took him less than an hour in total.
With that, An Wen’s adventure on the secluded island was concluded.
Whoosh!
Upon returning to the camp, An Wen put down his belongings and returned home with the ore.
Just as An Wen was about to search the Internet to find out what kind of ore the blue ore he mined was, Yuan Pan stopped him.
He then pointed at its nest again.
It was as if he were saying: Where is my nest?
“Eh… I’m still in the process of making your nest. How about this, get some sunlight for now?”
Without giving him an opportunity to ‘refute’, An Wen grabbed Yuan Pan and traveled to the other world. He then placed him in the sun and returned to the real world.
Great, it is more peaceful now.
Turning on his computer, An Wen searched for blue ore on the Internet.
In an instant, many pages of search results were returned.
Of course, the result at the very top of the list would never be the search result one was looking for.
It would instead be all sorts of advertisements, for example…
“Blue Ore – Blue Ore Wholesaler, Promotional Price, Local Source — Alibaba”
An Wen scrolled down the list of search results and finally found a result related to what he was looking for, in the midst of the clutter of advertisements.
“Azurite?”
He looked at the image of the ore on the screen, then at the ore in his hand.
He instantly realized that the piece of ore was indeed azurite.
More specifically, azurite was a copper-containing carbonate mineral belonging to the monoclinic crystal system. It had a hardness of 3.5~4 on the Mohs scale, and a relative density of 3.7~3.9.
Typically, near an area with azurite mineral, there would be a copper mining vein.
In other words, did that mean the cave in the mountain was an entire mine?
“Eh? A mine? In that case, I am someone who owns a mine too then?”
An Wen laughed. He was not thinking about selling copper ore.
It was sufficient for him to sell some of the stone material.
If he sold copper ore as well, he would only end up making himself feel uneasy.
Nevertheless, mining the ore was still a problem.
Based on the rules of the game world, as long as he mined the ore inside the cave, he would be attacked by monsters. Such would make the process extremely annoying.
“Can I block the passageway inside the cave?”
An Wen pondered and eventually dismissed such a thought.
After all the ore before the blockade was mined, would he not have to tear the blockade down to continue mining? It would just be extremely troublesome.
“What’s the use of a blockade… I’m going to dig open the top of the mountain and mine under the sun.”
There were no mining skills in the other world, and there was no one to control him there anyway, so why would he spend a great deal of energy and effort mining from the inside of the cave? He could simply dig open the mountain and continue mining.
Moreover, he was about to build Machine Megacity.
In that case, he no longer needed to worry about where he would obtain the required stone materials to build the Megacity. After all, it would also have required a lot of energy to transport the extracted stone materials out of the valley.
“Let me begin excavating the mountain! However, before that, I have to get some machinery to help me. If I do it using just manpower, I would not be able to build Machine Megacity even if I tire myself to death.”
The moment An Wen thought about building Machine Megacity, he was filled with energy.
Returning to the other world, he needed to build several wooden ox carts, which he would then equip with air-powered excavation tools. Using such, he would be able to excavate the stone material extremely quickly.
In the end however, the moment An Wen arrived in the other world, he was stopped by Yuan Pan again.
Tap tap…
Yuan Pan tapped on the pillar of the building beside him as he stared intently at An Wen.
It was as if he were saying: Where is my nest?
“Oh my gosh… Okay… I’ll build your nest now.”
Being stared at so intently by Yuan Pan, An Wen had no choice but to build a nest for him, before he started building the wooden ox carts.
This time, Yuan Pan did not let An Wen off so easily.
An Wen walked to the wood processing plant and Yuan Pan followed behind him.
He had already been ‘stood up’ by An Wen twice, so he stared intently at An Wen this time, making sure that he built the nest right away.
As a tortoise with an identity, Yuan Pan could not allow himself to not even have a house. Otherwise, he would be a ‘loser’, no?
