Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Sacred War Beast
“Do you wish to spend 5 million Survival Points to fuse the main skills together and enhance the production quality of Sacred War Beast?”
“There is a 99% chance of upgrading the overall performance of Sacred War Beast in this fusion. There is a 0.05% chance of upgrading Sacred War Beast to a product of ‘Epic’ grade.”
Looking at the prompt above the icon, An Wen discovered that the cost of fusion of Sacred War Beast was 3 million Survival Points more than Ancient Flying Eagle.
Perhaps, that was due to the larger size of Sacred War Beast.
Nevertheless, 5 million Survival Points was still not a big deal.
An Wen selected ‘Confirm’.
Whoosh!
A bolt of dull golden light flashed.
“Sacred War Beast: Epic Product”
“Results of Fusion: Overall Performance +11.7%, Structural Stability +37.3%, Agility +14.5%, Production Sketch Formed.”
“5 million Survival Points may be used to perform a second fusion.”
“Theoretical Design: Bronze Sacred War Beast (Legendary)”
“Sacred War Beast with a body made completely of bronze and making use of the steam engine as its power source. Overall Performance +1200%, Structural Stability +2800%, Power +1600%, Agility +1200%, Armor +5800%, Theoretical Design Sketch Formed (Unable to be Produced)”
Looking at the fusion results, An Wen was dumbfounded.
There’s such a thing as theoretical design?
An Wen gave it some thought as he felt that the appearance of the theoretical design component should be related to him activating the skills in the skill tree.
Previously when he was making the Ancient Flying Eagle, the skill icons in the Materials, Energy, and Chemistry Lists, as well as most of the icons in the Engineering List, had not been lit up. As such, the theoretical design component had not appeared.
Now that he had lit up all of the icons of the respective scientific theories, the theoretical design component emerged.
“Is this the legendary concept of maintaining the current generation of equipment well while developing the next, and at the same time preemptively researching on the future generations?”
An Wen muttered softly to himself – isn’t this the same concept as our military?
The ‘legendary’ grade Bronze Sacred War Beast was truly exceptional.
Regrettably however, An Wen had not developed his industrial system and hence was completely unable to build it. He could only watch in admiration.
“Do you wish to spend 5 million Survival Points and 12,000 units of wood material to manufacture a Sacred War Beast?”
An Wen selected ‘Confirm’ and spent another 500 million Survival Points – ten times its manufacturing cost – to instantly complete the building process.
It was truly the gameplay of the wealthy.
Heading over to the warehouse, the model of the Sacred War Beast was already inside.
An Wen then picked up the model and made his way to an open area outside.
The Sacred War Beast instantly enlarged and turned into a giant Black Tortoise that was 22 meters tall, 48 meters wide, and 56 meters long. It was as if a building appeared out of thin air.
“Wooden Product: Sacred War Beast”
“Grade: Epic”
“Attributes: Steady as a Mountain (Special), Power Enhancement +200%, Part Deterioration Reduction +200%, Armor +300%, Ranged Attack Damage Reduction +150%, Melee Attack Damage Reflection +200%”
“Attack Strength: 350,000 – 600,000”
“Defense Strength: 1,500,000”
“Durability: 2,000,000”
Splendid!
An Wen could only use the word ‘splendid’ to describe the spectacular attributes of the Sacred War Beast.
It was truly a weapon made for war; it was too powerful.
In comparison with the Sacred War Beast, the Ancient Flying Eagle was rather an air reconnaissance craft that was certainly not meant to be used for combat.
Hearing the roars of the monsters beyond the city wall, An Wen had an urge to drive the Sacred War Beast out onto the field to wipe out the massive crowd.
However, it was merely only wishful thinking; it was not possible in reality.
It was not because he was afraid – he was confident in the capabilities of the Sacred War Beast; the fact was he could not operate it himself.
Unlike the Ancient Flying Eagle, the Sacred War Beast was not meant to be driven alone. In order to operate it, at least 800 people were required to provide just enough power, and 2000 people were required for it to display its full capabilities.
That could also be inferred from the gigantic gear inside the Sacred War Beast.
It was certainly not a bicycle that could be operated alone.
An Wen took a look at the facilities inside the Sacred War Beast.
As a war machine, the weapons of the Sacred War Beast were not its four legs, but the densely-packed crossbows that would appear after the shell at the four legs of the ‘tortoise’ were opened.
The crossbows were extraordinarily huge and the shafts of the arrows were thicker than an ordinary person’s arm.
In addition to that, the top of the shell of the ‘tortoise’ was filled with stone catapults that would appear when the shell opened.
The might and force of gigantic stones catapulting down from a height of 22 meters and accelerated by gravity was clear.
If any person was struck, he/she would instantly be flattened into a pancake.
After scanning around the inside of the ‘tortoise’, An Wen came to the connection between its neck and its body.
“Seriously… I can’t really bear to dismantle these parts.”
Looking at the complicated mechanisms around the neck, he began to worry.
However, when he recalled the ‘legendary’ grade Bronze Sacred War Beast that was still in the form of a sketch, he immediately set his mind on dismantling it.
If he did not modify the Sacred War Beast, how was he going to flatten the mountain?
If he did not flatten the mountain, how was he going to mine the ore?
If he did not mine the ore, how was he going to build up his industrial system and manufacture the Bronze Sacred War Beast?
“Out with the old, in with the new.”
Determined, An Wen began dismantling the connecting components that joined the neck and the body of the Sacred War Beast together. Then, he separated its head and began modifying its neck.
As he dismantled the components, his actions quickly became more fluid.
All humans have the desire to destroy things. The more expensive and valuable the destroyed item is, the more satisfied one would feel when doing so.
As such, the more components An Wen dismantled, the merrier he felt and the more he could not stop.
After dismantling the neck, he dismantled the power-generating mechanisms.
After dismantling the power-generating mechanisms, he dismantled the weapon mechanisms.
By the time everything was dismantled, the sun had risen in the other world.
An Wen fetched Yuan Pan over so he could assist him.
However, when he saw the Sacred War Beast that was already partially dismantled by An Wen, he began to shiver.
When he looked back at An Wen, it was as if he saw a ghost.
It was as if he was saying: Why did you dismember my relative?!
“This isn’t a live tortoise, it’s just made of wood. Your nest is made of wood too.”
“Snap out of your daze now and help me with some work.”
An Wen tapped Yuan Pan’s shell and said gruffly.
“Go over there and move that wooden pole over.”
“Come over here and help me support this stand.”
“Don’t move, support this while I assemble this, I’m almost done.”
Yuan Pan was ‘used’ by An Wen as a tractor, a crane, and a jack.
Undoubtedly, a live creature was more useful than a machine, mainly because the former was alive and nimble.
With Yuan Pan’s help, An Wen could modify the Sacred War Beast more quickly.
He labored from afternoon till the evening, and from the evening till late into the night.
After working for 13 hours, An Wen finally modified the Sacred War Beast into a boring machine.
Standing at 22 meters tall and with a projecting beam that was 40 meters long, the modified Sacred War Beast could certainly allow the air-powered excavation tools, which were embedded in the circular wooden wheel at the front of the beam, to work at full power.
“Great, I want to complete… Never mind.”
An Wen wanted to boast, but when he recalled the results of the previous two times he boasted, he swallowed his words back down his throat.
He would only boast after he saw the effects of the modified Sacred War Beast the next day.
