Chapter 59: Chapter 59: It’s Not Easy to Survive in Any Industry
“The forging equipment had all been completed. When the factory is built, it would be easier to smelt ore automatically. I just don’t know whether coking can be done in the same factory.”
“If that is not possible, I’ll need to build another factory especially to coke coal.”
“There’s no need to worry about mining. I’ll just build two-wheel bucket excavators later and make use of steam power to mine both ore and coal.”
“It’s the steam engine that is more troublesome to construct. I need to construct machine tools first, then build a machinery factory before steam engines can be made automatically.”
An Wen thought about what he needed to do subsequently as he took a bath.
He listed them down, then thought of ways to finish them with the least hassle.
Purchasing machine tools directly would actually be the least troublesome.
However, a machinery factory required slightly too many different types of machine tools.
In that aspect, there were no loopholes for him to exploit, nor bugs for him to make use of.
Unless he bought a machine tool that could produce various types of parts and components, simply purchasing one kind of machine tool was useless.
“Eh… I think there may be a loophole I can exploit?”
An Wen suddenly thought of a possibility: a machinery factory could not be one without sufficient and appropriate machine tools, but what if he had a 3D printer?
Indeed, parts and components produced by the 3D printer would certainly be less intricate and sturdy as those made by machine tools.
However, as long as the settings of the game world recognized the 3D printer and allowed all sorts of parts and components to be made, it would suffice.
At that time, he would be automating the production of products, so there would not be a problem even if the parts and components were made by a 3D printer.
Moreover, with the 3D printer, he could then use it to make machine tools automatically, so there should not be any difficulties to encounter.
“I’m such a genius.”
An Wen clapped his hands as a way of self-compliment.
After he finished his bath, it was afternoon already.
An Wen brought two fruits home as Yuan Pan’s lunch, while he went out for a large meal.
“I spent so much energy in the morning, I’ll treat myself to steak for lunch then.”
After deciding what he wanted to eat, An Wen drove off.
He arrived at a Western restaurant and ordered two sets of steak – one set was not enough to sate his hunger.
Very quickly, a bowl of borscht and a plate of pastries were served as appetizers.
An Wen began eating right away.
Buzz buzz…
His mobile phone rang – it was a WeChat notification. Clicking on it, he found that it was a message from Zhou Zhe.
“Are you awake yet?”
An Wen was slightly surprised when he saw a message from his childhood friend.
Oh, Zhou Zhe had been ‘released’.
After the previous incident, Zhou Zhe’s father had grounded him in the house, and An Wen had not heard any news from him for more than a month.
“I’m eating lunch. You’ve been ‘released’ already?”
An Wen replied after taking a bite of the steak.
Zhou Zhe said: “Heh heh, my confinement ended thanks to a certain influential person. Oh, by the way, just to let you know, there’s an event at 6 p.m., you’ll have to attend too.”
“No, you may go ahead. They know what I’m like anyway.”
An Wen replied, feeling slightly irritated.
It was yet another trivial matter unworthy of his time.
He had attended such events in the past, and they were a complete waste of time. Everyone who attended would be eating and drinking while boasting about themselves; simply put, it was empty talk and conversations without substance.
Of course, the main purpose of such events was for everyone to get to know one another, and the best scenario would be for individuals to meet others with similar interests and goals to network.
Whenever An Wen attended those events, he would find an inconspicuous corner to sit and play games on his mobile phone.
Nevertheless, if there were people who went to talk to him, he would still continue the conversation.
However, after attending several events like that, everyone else eventually knew what he was usually like and very few people went to talk to him again.
Although they were all from the same ‘circle’, if he could not fit in well with the others, the others would not forcibly engage him.
The next moment, however, when Zhou Zhe sent him the details of the gathering, he knew that it was not possible for him to skip it.
“Chen Jun?”
After reading the entire message, An Wen furrowed his brows.
He had thought that it was just an ordinary gathering where everyone would eat, drink, and have fun. However, he realized that it was actually a hospitality event.
“She’s the elder sister of the newly-appointed mayor of Gutian County? Is she here to attract investments?”
The backstory was that she had just returned to the country after studying abroad, and was in Shanghai to have fun with her close friend. To welcome her back, the close friend decided to invite all of them teenagers and children of the nouveau riche for a gathering.
On the surface, it was a gathering, but in reality, it was actually to attract investments for her younger brother.
An Wen placed his mobile phone down and pursed his lips.
It’s truly not easy to survive in any industry. Without devoting all of one’s effort and energy, one would never be able to succeed.
Did they lack resources?
Did they lack power and money?
How could that be possible?
In that case, why did they have to put in so much effort to attract investments?
It was because the industry was too competitive.
“I’ll just go and have a look around then. I definitely can’t choose not to attend, but I can find a corner to play mobile games after the introductions.”
He certainly could not decline to attend such occasions, for it would bring shame upon himself and his family.
After he finished his lunch and was on the way home, his father called.
“Have you received the news?” his father asked.
“Yes, Zhou Zhe told me,” An Wen replied helplessly.
“I’m still going to tell you the same thing. If you want to be a homebody for all your life, you may carry on as you usually do.”
“If you want to put in the effort, this is an opportunity for you. It’s all up to what you think now.”
His father’s low and serious voice was heard from the other end of the line.
Nevertheless, An Wen could sense a hint of anticipation in his father’s voice.
“Alright, I understand,” he replied.
“Doo doo doo…”
Hanging up the call, An Wen let out another sigh.
He really wanted to tell his father: Your son is a ‘cheater’ and does not need to curry favors to obtain help from others.
Unfortunately, he still could not tell his father that – he had not grown so ‘powerful’ that he had sixty layers of legendary armor on him and could afford to act recklessly.
Returning home, An Wen purchased two 3D printers online.
He then traveled to the other world to build a factory and installed a set of equipment, but that was all he did before he returned to the real world.
Picking out a set of clothes, he went to the bathroom in his house.
However, he realized that there was no mirror there.
The full-length standing mirror had already been moved by him to the bathroom in the other world.
In fact, there was barely any furniture left in his house, apart from electrical appliances and items like his bed and wardrobe.
An Wen had no choice but to travel to the other world to see himself in the mirror.
“I’ve become even more handsome.”
Changing into a casual suit, An Wen found himself to have grown even more handsome – and felt helpless about it.
How would other people live if I continue becoming more handsome?
The narcissistic An Wen just walked out of the bathroom when he met Yuan Pan bathing in the sun.
“Yuan Pan, you may go to the warehouse to eat a few fruits if you’re hungry. Don’t eat too many of them; ten at most. I’ll come back later tonight to fetch you back home.”
After instructing Yuan Pan, An Wen left.
One hour later…
An Wen drove to the event location, which was a country club.
He had just parked his car when he saw his childhood friend Zhou Zhe. The latter was talking to someone at the other end of the car park.
An Wen walked over and Zhou Zhe quickly noticed him.
“You’re here unusually early. This isn’t like you,” Zhou Zhe ended his conversation with the other person before briskly walking over and speaking to An Wen.
An Wen did not respond but instead scrutinized Zhou Zhe from head to toe.
“What are you looking at?” Zhou Zhe questioned, feeling puzzled.
“I’m checking to see if you’re missing any part of your body. Did Uncle Zhou not brandish his legendary club?” An Wen laughed and asked.
“Scram… I was just unlucky once, what else is there to say,” Zhou Zhe replied unhappily, brushing off An Wen’s sarcastic remarks.
An Wen was only joking and did not continue making fun of him.
Walking into the club, there were already many people present there.
Even though they were not extremely familiar with everyone else and could not call one another by name, they could still recognize one another.
An Wen and Zhou Zhe found a random spot to sit down and started talking casually.
After about twenty minutes, the lady of the hour arrived.
