Feature Shows Extravaganza - Chapter 57
Chapter 57: We Made It
“…Fairy Wang resealed the devilish god, saved the world, and lived happily ever after with Pan Da the great warrior!”
Clap, clap, clap.
The sound of applause was through the roof.
Taking out a tissue from his pocket, the principal wiped away the happy tears when the dean asked, “Sir, shall I go backstage and confiscate their yo-yos?”
The principal shook his head.
They were only the props, so why bother?
Little did Pan Da and Du Bishu know, but they had almost been branded by the sleazy dean as bad students who had violated the school regulations. Their yo-yos had almost been confiscated again.
They went back to their class afterwards.
The entire gala consisted of a mishmash of various shows, and in the end, the students had enjoyed it a lot.
“There are no more classes this afternoon, so you can all go home after you put the chairs back to the classroom.”
Yeah!
School was finally over!
Pan Da bought two lollipops from the convenience store on his way back home, which cost him one yuan in total. He gave one to Du Bishu.
With the lollipop in his mouth, Du Bishu mumbled, “Hey, Dada, does Explosive Boys start today?”
“Yes!” Pan Da nodded.
“On which channel? CCTV-14?”
Scratching his butt, Pan Da thought for a moment before answering, “No, it’ll be on Jiangchuan Children’s Channel. You know, the one which has a penguin as its logo…”
“I think my dad has forgotten to pay for cable this month. Dada, let’s watch it at your place!”
“No problem!”
Pan Qiliang came back home from work to find his son’s swarthy chubby friend at his home again.
It had only been a few days since he last saw Du Bishu, and the boy seemed to have gained weight again. From the looks of it, Old Du had learned a great deal from that “How to Raise Pigs properly” book he had bought. Du Bishu was a living proof.
Du Bishu and Pan Da were sitting on the sofa, sharing a bag of potato chips while watching Explosive Boys.
While Pan Qiliang was washing the vegetables in the kitchen, he glanced in the direction of the living room and frowned.
“The spring wind is blowing, and the fire of youth is raging…
“Wow, wow, wow! Hey, hey, hey! I won’t hold anything back.
“Wind, fire, water, earth, thunder, and sound. They’re all my secrets. They grow up with me!”
It was indeed Explosive Boys!
Pang Qiliang wondered what kind of show that Meng Lang guy had created this time.
At that thought, Pan Qiliang forgot about his vegetables. He wiped his hands dry, went to the living room, and watched it with his son and Du Bishu.
“Srika the comet is going to pass by at 9 o’clock tonight…”
“Ah Huo, wait for me…”
…
“Hahaha!”
“Honey, why are you laughing?”
Pan Qiliang replied without looking back. “This teacher is so full of shit! She said that a comet consists of the six elements of wind, fire, water, earth, thunder, and sound! Hahaha! That’s just hilarious…”
“Of course, it is!”
Pan Da swallowed and shot his dad a warning glance. However the man was too attracted by the show to take the hint.
He didn’t realize what was going on until he felt the pain on his lower back.
Startled, Pan Qiliang immediately turned around, and the smile froze on his face when he saw the way his wife smirked.
“Honey…”
“Aren’t you supposed to be cooking dinner? Do you know what time it is now? Are you a kid, too? Aren’t you too old to watch something like that?”
All the questions showered down at him, and Pan Qiliang had to quickly run back to the kitchen.
He finally knew why Meng Lang’s shows had been so popular.
They were so strangely addictive!
The lines might sound embarrassing at first, but the longer one watched, the more interesting they wound find the show to be. Before he knew it, he had finished all two episodes without walking away even during the advertisements.
Come to think of it, the show was rather crudely made. At least by Pan Qiliang’s standard, even the costume dramas felt more well-rounded.
But he just couldn’t stop watching it!
Picking up a mini tomato with his fingers, Pan Qiliang threw it out in the way Zhou Yihuo threw out his popping ball and blurted out, “Go! Gallon Tomato!”
Thud!
Just then, his wife pushed the door open while tying her apron. When she realized that it was a mini tomato that had just hit her in the face, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
“Pan! Qi! Liang!”
Pan Da and Du Bishu turned their heads in unison when they heard the clattering sounds in the kitchen.
…
“Beep!”
Meng Lang, who had been anxiously walking around in his office grabbed his phone when he heard the sound. He then saw a new message from Mr. Tao.
“It was amazing!!!”
The three exclamation marks were proof of how astonished Mr. Tao was.
Although everyone had expected high viewership ratings before they aired Explosive Boys, they didn’t think that they would be high enough to break the records.
After all, Balala the Fairies had done such a great job!
The average viewership ratings in the first round was as high as 3.08% for that show.
And on the third rerun, it had defeated the annual blockbuster production, a historical drama, making it he most viewed show of the year.
That was just incredible.
The achievements Balala the Fairies made had turned it into some sort of monumental work of live-action feature shows, because no feature shows had ever been able to become the most popular show of the year!
However…
All records would be eventually broken.
The record viewership ratings Balala the Fairies had made was surpassed by Explosive Boys on its debut day.
There was a new record now!
4.11%!
God knew how Mr. Tao felt when he saw the figure at first.
He couldn’t believe his eyes!
Meng Lang’s fellow TV professionals were all amazed. They didn’t know how it was possible. The show wasn’t very well made, but how could it be so popular?
Compared to them, Meng Lang was relatively calm.
He replied to Mr. Tao’s message: “It’s only the first episode. With all the offline promotion we’ve done, such viewership ratings are only normal. Let’s just wait and see…”
More than enough TV shows had high viewership ratings at first, but would only see the figures drop as more episodes were aired.
It was especially common with shows that were adapted from web novels.
And it was a common issue with feature shows as well.
After all the money Pengda had spent on its offline channels—not to mention the great decrease in the proceedings Pengda had been receiving—Meng Lang would be in tears if the viewership ratings wasn’t this high.
“The second episode did a great job, too! The average viewership ratings are 3.89%! We made it!”
The story continued in the second episode, and there was a stunning scene of countless shiny cards following down from the sky. A lot of viewers had decided to keep watching.
But compared to the first episode, the second one had lost some viewers.
It was the same case as with reading a web novel. Of all the people who had clicked open the book, some ditched it after the first chapter, some went on reading to the next chapter, and some read all the way to the end.
Like serialized novels, a show also kept selecting its audience as it went on.
With the exorbitantly high viewership ratings of the first episode, if the decrease in the viewership ratings of the second episode was lower than 10%, it was safe to say that Explosive Boys was a success.
Mr. Tao: [You’re great.jpg]
Putting down his phone, Meng Lang let out a breath of relief.
