Chapter 538: 537 people are as tough as iron, and food is as strong as steel.
As long as you’re by my side, nothing else matters!
Mo Xiuchen’s words echoed in Wen Ran’s ears, stirring her heart like a raging wind. Her pupils suddenly contracted, and the hands resting in front of her tightly, very tightly clenched.
After finishing what he had to say, he turned his head, focusing his gaze on the road ahead.
In the silent car, Wen Ran’s emotions were in turmoil. She didn’t want to dwell on the profound meaning in Mo Xiuchen’s words, but, somehow, she couldn’t help but contemplate it.
For the rest of the trip, Mo Xiuchen didn’t say anything, nor did Wen Ran. The car was strangely quiet.
Upon reaching the company, Mo Xiuchen personally opened the car door for Wen Ran. As soon as she stepped out, he held her hand. His movements were so natural and proficient. He loved to hold her hand, whether at home, at the office, or anywhere else.
“Ranran, let’s go in.”
He gave her a tender smile, and upon locking eyes with his smiling eyes, Wen Ran also returned a smile. His big hand enveloped her small one as they walked into the company together, matching his pace.
Surprised flashed in the eyes of the doorman when he saw her with Mo Xiuchen after days of absence, and he greeted them with a smile.
Mo Xiuchen was in a good mood that day, his aura vibrant and his nobility carried with warm elegance after the gloom of those days.
The doorman greeted him, and he even nodded in response.
Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran arrived later than everyone else who was already at work. They took the private elevator to the top floor and went straight to his office.
Upon opening the door, Mo Xiuchen’s handsome face turned from sunny to overcast at the sight of Cheng Jia waiting in his office. Cold fury flashed in his eyes, “Cheng Jia, what are you doing here?”
Originally, Cheng Jia was sitting on the spacious leather sofa. Upon hearing the opening door, she stood up. Faced with Mo Xiuchen’s cold gaze and confronted with his questioning, her beautiful face showed a flurry of emotions before finally turning pale when she noticed Wen Ran at his side.
“Xiuchen, Miss Cheng must be here for something, you shouldn’t be so fierce, you’re scaring her.”
Wen Ran saw the changes in Cheng Jia’s expression and remembered Jiang Liu’s warning on the phone. She suddenly smiled warmly and brightly, like a breath of spring breeze that instantly dissipated Mo Xiuchen’s displeasure. He turned his head, giving her a tender smile.
Holding her hand, they walked into the office heading towards his desk, he casually said, “This office isn’t open for anyone to enter as they please, if you have something to say, say it now!”
Cheng Jia did not expect Wen Ran to be the one she was waiting for.
After Mo Xiuchen left at noon, she didn’t leave, she even skipped lunch in hopes of winning his pity, even if it was just a tiny bit of it.
She had already thought about what to say when he comes back in the afternoon.
But Wen Ran’s presence disrupted all her plans, making all her well-thought-out words useless. Instead, seeing Mo Xiuchen’s tenderness towards Wen Ran, her jealousy spread rapidly, enveloping her heart.
While she was staring at Wen Ran, a piercing gaze shot from behind the desk, “If you have nothing to say, then go back to work.”
Mo Xiuchen narrowed his eyes, his tone disgruntled.
Cheng Jia’s face went pale again, she hurriedly explained, “Mr. Mo, I have something to discuss with you. After you left at noon, I didn’t leave and waited for you here.”
Surprised, Wen Ran asked, “Noon? Xiuchen, didn’t you come home for lunch?”
In a gentle tone, Mo Xiuchen corrected her, “Yes, I had lunch at home with you.”
Wen Ran smiled lightly and turned to Cheng Jia, “So, Miss Cheng, how long were you waiting here? Since the moment you were off work in the morning?”
Cheng Jia silently clenched her teeth. In front of Mo Xiuchen, she couldn’t lash out at Wen Ran, so she hid her anger beneath her calm exterior and explained softly, “Indeed, I was here to find Mr. Mo with professional questions before lunch. He had to leave, so I waited here.”
“Humans need food like steel needs fire. Miss Cheng, you should go and eat something. Don’t starve yourself. Besides, you’re the star of the celebration banquet tonight.”
Wen Ran looked at Cheng Jia with a friendly smile, and her words were sincere.
Originally, Cheng Jia was looking forward to the celebration banquet tonight. She even thought about how to entice Mo Xiuchen. Even if her attempts were unsuccessful, she planned on causing some sort of misunderstanding between him and Wen Ran.
When the words “celebration banquet” came from Wen Ran’s mouth, a sinking feeling gripped Cheng Jia’s heart. She suddenly sensed a hidden meaning in her speech as if she was warning her that she would be by Mo Xiuchen’s side at the banquet.
She shouldn’t even dream about her husband!
Previously, Wen Ran told her that as long as she was there, she would not let her snatch her husband away. Now, even though she is just a chicken that doesn’t lay eggs, she still selfishly monopolizes Mo Xiuchen, such a perfect man. The more Cheng Jia thought about it, the more she hated Wen Ran.
“Yes, Ranran is right. You should go eat something. After your meal, you can go back to work.”
Mo Xiuchen wanted to send Cheng Jia, who was an eyesore, away as quickly as possible. His displeasure was evident in his tone. Even if Cheng Jia was reluctant to leave, with Wen Ran there, she couldn’t stay any longer.
She pursed her lips and said, “Mr. Mo, I will go back to my work then. I’ll consult you when you have some free time.”
“You don’t need to; take your documents with you. Later, ask Deputy General Mo your questions. If I remember correctly, I told you this morning to go to him if you didn’t understand something.”
As he ended his sentence, Mo Xiuchen’s handsome eyebrows knitted together.
“Then, I’ll leave now.”
Cheng Jia hesitated for a moment, she reluctantly picked up her documents from the coffee table and left his office.
Mo Xiuchen’s cold eyes followed Cheng Jia’s retreating figure out of his office. He moved his gaze back to Wen Ran, who was frowning slightly. His eyes narrowed as he asked with concern, “Ranran, what’s wrong?”
“Such strong perfume.”
She wafted the air in front of her. The scent of Cheng Jia’s perfume was very strong. After waiting in the office for two to three hours, she left, but the perfume scent lingered in the air.
Mo Xiuchen immediately dialed his desk phone, ordering someone to come in and take care of it.
After hanging up the phone, he comforted her softly, “Ranran, I’ve asked someone to clear the smell. Just bear with it for a few minutes; it’ll be gone soon.”
Wen Ran, seemingly deep in thought, said, “Cheng Jia hasn’t been troubling you these days, has she? The moment she saw me just now, her face completely changed.”
At her words, he chuckled and raised an eyebrow, “In that case, you should come to work tomorrow. Or better yet, accompany me to the office every day. With you there, whether it’s Cheng Jia or Li Jia, they wouldn’t dare bother me.”
