Chapter 544: 543 Infertile Women
“Ranran, you’re awake!”
With a smile in his eyebrows, Mo Xiuchen walked towards her in a steady stride. As soon as she appeared at the staircase, he knew it.
His profound gaze fell on her fair cheeks, when he looked into her astonished and slightly panicked eyes, a trace of unusual emotion flashed deep in his eyes, and a faint smile emerged on his handsome and perfect face.
Wen Ran bit her lip and tightly clutched the strap of her bag.
She didn’t expect that Mo Xiuchen would not have left.
“Ranran, come down.”
Mo Xiuchen, tall and upright, stood at the staircase, looked up at her with a handsome face, apparently oblivious to the bag in her hand, his dark eyes were full of tenderness.
Wen Ran took a deep breath and, step by step, descended towards him.
Suddenly, he grabbed her wrist, his familiar breath overwhelming her senses. With a gentle pull, he brought her into his arms. His other hand reached over naturally to take her bag, murmuring gently: “Fortunately, I didn’t leave, otherwise you would have had to go to the company alone!”
Go to the company?
A twinge of pain pricked at Wen Ran’s heart, an emotion surfacing in the depths of her eyes.
“Let me accompany you for breakfast first.”
Mo Xiuchen seemed genuinely unaware that she wanted to leave. He pulled her into the dining room, pulled out a chair for her to sit down, then slightly raised his voice to call Nanny Zhang to bring breakfast. He sat next to her, accompanying her.
Wen Ran remained silent, unsure of what to say. The more Mo Xiuchen acted this way, the more heartbroken she felt.
She knew, and he should know too. He was a clever man; how could he not know that she wanted to leave? Perhaps he had guessed this, and that was why he had not gone to work and had waited at home.
Nanny Zhang quickly served breakfast, and Mo Xiuchen sat next to her, gently urging, “Ranran, let’s eat.”
Wen Ran dared not meet his affectionate gaze. She pursed her lips and gently answered, “uh-huh”, unsure whether it was out of fear, or lack of courage, to tell him that she wanted to leave in front of him.
She ate her breakfast in silence while Mo Xiuchen cheerfully asked her if it was delicious. Though she answered ‘delicious’, the food tasted like wax in her mouth.
After breakfast, Mo Xiuchen took her out to his luxurious Aston. After helping her with her seatbelt, he walked around to the driver’s side.
A wave of sorrow washed over Wen Ran. Biting her lip and seeing him sit down, she spoke softly, “Mo Xiuchen…”
“Ranran, I’ve delayed the meeting by an hour, so I’ll drive a bit faster than usual. Buckle up.”
He cut her off as soon as she began to speak.
As the car started moving, Mo Xiuchen’s gaze was focused on the road ahead. The only sound in the car was the soothing yet melancholy music playing. Wen Ran silently watched his large hand, seeing how his slender fingers tightly gripped the steering wheel with more force than usual, her heart jumped.
Despite the music playing in the car, the atmosphere was somewhat unusual.
“Mo Xiuchen, we…”
“Ranran, if you’re still sleepy, take a nap. I’ll wake you up when we get to the company.”
Mo Xiuchen interrupted her again. He shifted his gaze to look at her for a moment, then looked back at the road.
Wen Ran quietly clasped her hands together, pursed her lips, then turned to look out the window.
Next to her, Mo Xiuchen’s expression turned subtly cold, his sensual lips pressed into a firm line. His hand, gripping the steering wheel, tightened further.
He knew what she wanted to say, which were the words he least wanted to hear. He regretted his actions from last night, realizing that he had been too hasty.
He shouldn’t have been so desperate, assuming that she wouldn’t push him away so resolutely if she were asleep.
He forgot, how could she, who loved him so much, allow herself to hurt him? Seeing her fair and delicate cheeks from the rearview mirror, a pain he couldn’t explain surged in his heart.
When they arrived at the company, just like yesterday, Mo Xiuchen held her hand and took the elevator upstairs. As soon as they entered the office, he gently said, “Ranran, I’ll go attend the meeting first. I have quite a lot of things to handle today. If you’re bored, I can find something for you to do.”
Looking into his deep and wise eyes, Wen Ran hesitated a bit before softly agreeing, “Okay!”
So, this day, Mo Xiuchen kept her busy, arranging a full day of work for her. He himself was also rather busy. At noon, he took her and the client out for lunch, and in the afternoon, he continued to be busy.
He didn’t dare to sit idle, didn’t dare to give her a chance to speak, and certainly didn’t dare leave her alone. Meanwhile, Wen Ran seemed a bit distracted, even making elementary mistakes, such as putting decimal points in the wrong places.
At around four in the afternoon, Wen Ran used the excuse to go to the restroom to slip out of the office and get some fresh air.
In the restroom, she encountered Cheng Jia.
“Wen Ran, wait a moment.”
As she was washing her hands, Cheng Jia walked in. As she turned to leave, Cheng Jia stopped her.
The restroom was empty aside from the two of them. Wen Ran halted, turning towards Cheng Jia. She saw the alluring figure standing before her, clad in professional attire, deliberately thrusting out her voluptuous bosom, disdainfully looking Wen Ran: “I heard that you can’t have children?”
She didn’t beat around the bush, her tone not only direct but sarcastic, filled with mockery.
Wen Ran’s face subtly changed, her hand involuntarily tightened, looking at Cheng Jia’s pretty face, she retorted without emotion: “What has that got to do with you?”
She didn’t deny it.
Because, that was the truth. The more she couldn’t face it, the more Cheng Jia would gloat.
She suppressed her emotions, trying to face the situation as indifferently as possible.
Cheng Jia scoffed, “It would normally not concern me, but as a barren woman, don’t you think it’s very selfish and shameless to monopolize Mo General? MS Group is such a huge business, it needs an heir.”
“Do you think, if I leave Mo Xiuchen, then you’ll have your chance?”
Wen Ran retorted with another question, returning her mockery.
Even if Mo Xiuchen was going to find another woman, it would definitely not be Cheng Jia. She was too dirty and didn’t deserve her Mo Xiuchen.
Cheng Jia’s face changed slightly, a hint of anger surfacing. Wen Ran’s nonchalant remark had hit a nerve. No matter how proactive or nice she had been to Mo Xiuchen, he had never given her a second look.
“Wen Ran, if I were you, I’d leave right away. How could a woman who can’t even have a child have the audacity to stick around Mo General? This huge industry of MS Group needs an heir.”
“Even if I leave, Mo Xiuchen would never take you. So, you don’t need to worry about it. It’s a waste of your energy.”
Wen Ran’s voice was calm, regardless of how much pain she felt inside, she never showed it on her face.
Cheng Jia’s face twisted in fury at her remark. Taking a step forward, her voice became even sharper: “Who said Mo General won’t want me? Right now, he’s just temporarily charmed by you. You can’t have children, it won’t take him long to wake up, to abandon you, and to recognize my worth.”
By the end, she was practically gnashing her teeth.
Wen Ran looked at her jealous figure with a touch of sadness. “Cheng Jia, I think you’re really pitiful!”
