Chapter 720: 719 Seems Familiar
The person in the business vehicle was none other than Mo Xiuchen.
Mo Jingteng had instructed the driver to take him to the airport.
Sitting in the back seat, he was leaning slightly to one side, watching the scenery roll backwards outside the window.
Last night, he had driven around G City but had not felt a hint of familiarity.
He thought that it might be because it was nighttime and he couldn’t make out the structures of G City clearly.
However, when his gaze met the woman in the café, seated by the window, with downcast eyes, fixated on her phone, a surge of indescribable, inexplicable emotions suddenly swept over him.
He couldn’t express this feeling in words—it was neither joy, nor excitement.
If he had to describe it, he would say it felt like déjà vu.
When this thought crossed his mind, his eyes narrowed abruptly, commanding the driver in the front seat, “Stop the car!”
“Young Master, we can’t stop here.”
It took the driver a few seconds to react.
He hesitated, casting a fearful glance in the rearview mirror at the aloof Mo Xiuchen.
Mo Xiuchen leaned lazily back into his seat, his cold gaze fixed on the driver.
The driver felt a twinge of fear, unsure of why Mo Xiuchen had suddenly demanded to stop the car.
Mo Xiuchen’s brow furrowed as he looked out the window, but the figure that had caught his attention had already been replaced by other scenery.
“Never mind, let’s go,” he said, closing his eyes in a feigned attempt to rest, no longer interested in the passing scenery.
“Alright, Young Master.”
Upon seeing Mo Xiuchen closing his eyes, the driver let out a sigh of relief.
He didn’t know why he had been ordered to stop, but he knew that he was under strict orders to personally escort the young master to the security checkpoint and prevent any mishaps from occurring.
He understood precisely what these ‘mishaps’ were referring to.
Wen Ran sent the photos from Bai Xiaoxiao’s phone to her own.
She glanced out of the glass window, retracting her gaze, and handed Bai Xiaoxiao’s phone back to her, before asking with a note of concern,
“Xiaoxiao, did you and Luo Haofeng have a fight? When I mentioned you while we were in A City yesterday, his expression seemed a bit strange.”
The smile on Bai Xiaoxiao’s face faltered slightly: “He wanted to visit my parents, but I wouldn’t allow him. That made him angry.”
“Oh? He wants to visit your home, to propose?”
Wen Ran opened her eyes wide in surprise. She knew that Xiaoxiao and Luo Haofeng were together, but Aunt Qiao had always been opposed to their relationship.
She had never given her approval and had introduced Xiaoxiao to countless other suitors during this time.
Bai Xiaoxiao nodded, a worried look appearing on her face: “Ranran, as you know, my mother has always been pressuring me to break up with Luo Haofeng, forbidding us to stay in contact. Despite this, he still insists on visiting my family. Isn’t that just asking for trouble? So, of course, I can’t agree to that.”
“I see. Well, why don’t both of you just elope?”
“Elope? My mom said that if I dared to do that, she would drop dead. On top of that, my father has surprisingly sided with my mother this time. Ranran, I’m at my wit’s end.”
Bai Xiaoxiao’s face was full of grievance. These days her father had assigned her tons of work to do.
She even had to work on Sundays and attend all sorts of parties. Her mother wished she could have her go on blind dates every day.
She even said that she’d rather have Xiaoxiao get back together with Xiao Yuting than have anything to do with Luo Haofeng.
What’s more, even when she met with Wen Ran, her mother would question her several times, fearing that she was using her meetings with Wen Ran as an excuse to secretly rendezvous with Luo Haofeng.
Wen Ran furrowed her brows in deep thought, then hesitantly said, “Xiaoxiao, I think there might be some past grievances or misunderstandings between Aunt Qiao and Luo Haofeng’s parents. If not, there’s no reasonable explanation for why she’s so insists on having you break up with Luo Haofeng.”
“My mom?”
Bai Xiaoxiao furrowed her brows, unconsciously stirring her coffee with a spoon.
Wen Ran nodded, calmly reasoning, “Think about it. When you were pursuing Xiao Yuting, Aunt Qiao simply tried to dissuade you. She was never as firm as she is now. But with Luo Haofeng, she warned you about him even before the two of you got together.”
“Now that you two are together, she’s even more opposed to it. If it’s not past grievances or misunderstandings, what else could it be?”
“If there are any misunderstandings or disagreements, why doesn’t she say anything about them?”
Bai Xiaoxiao pouted slightly in frustration.
The Luo family doesn’t even live in G City, so how could her mother possibly have any grievances with them?
“Xiaoxiao, if you want to find out, it’s quite simple. You don’t need to ask Aunt Qiao. You just need to go home with Luo Haofeng. With your face, which is a carbon copy of Aunt Qiao’s, if Luo Haofeng’s parents do have any grievances with her, they will surely recognize you.”
Wen Ran suggested this idea to her. She felt that rather than being forced to break up with Luo Haofeng, Bai Xiaoxiao should find out the real reason why. If there were really some past grievances, they could try to resolve them.
Bai Xiaoxiao hesitated for a moment before nodding determinedly, “Alright, Ranran. I’ll do as you say. Later, I’ll call Luo Haofeng and see if he’s willing.”
Wen Ran laughed lightly, “Luo Haofeng wanted to go to your house but you didn’t want him there. If you want to go to his house, I guarantee that he will welcome you with open arms.”
**
The next evening, Wen Ran received a call from Bai Xiaoxiao, saying that she and Luo Haofeng had agreed to visit his home over the weekend.
Leaning against the head-board and chuckling, Wen Ran teased, “Xiaoxiao, was I right? I am certain that Luo Haofeng would have welcomed you with open arms.”
“Ranran, I need a favor.”
Bai Xiaoxiao’s words suddenly grew hesitant. Wen Ran understood immediately and dragged out her answer, saying, “I know, you want me to be your accomplice and help you and Luo Haofeng abscond, right?”
“What do you mean by ‘abscond’? Ranran, that sounds so terrible! Hurry up and think of a plan for me.”
Bai Xiaoxiao threatened Wen Ran through the phone. Wen Ran couldn’t help but laugh brilliantly, “Why isn’t this simple? I’m going to the countryside to plant trees tomorrow. You can go with me and you can leave from there the next day.”
“The countryside? Ah, what kind of a tree are you planting? I didn’t know about this.”
Bai Xiaoxiao asked in confusion, she hadn’t heard about this in the afternoon.
Wen Ran stifled a laugh, explaining, “It’s the same place where we went to eat cherries last time. I was thinking of planting some more fruit trees and flowers. Qing Feng and Qing Yang have already been there for a few days. I intended to tell you this afternoon, but after seeing your troubled expression, I forgot.”
“Ranran, you really are my lucky star. I’ll go and tell my mom right now. What time are you leaving tomorrow morning? Or why don’t you come to my house and pick me up? That way, my mother will feel more at ease.”
“Are you afraid that if your affair with Luo Haofeng is discovered, Aunt Qiao won’t let me off the hook?”
Even though Wen Ran was joking, she promptly agreed, “Wait for me at home tomorrow morning, I’ll come to pick you up.”
“Ranran, I love you. I have to hang up now, bye!”
Bai Xiaoxiao confessed her love enthusiastically, but Wen Ran merely laughed.
After hanging up the phone, there was a knock at the door, and it opened moments later. Gu Kai walked in.
“Brother, you’ve finished work?”
When Gu Kai’s gaze met Wen Ran’s smiling eyes, a flicker of emotion appeared deep within his own eyes.
He grunted in acknowledgement, approached her bedside and asked gently, “Ranran, who were you talking to on the phone just now? You seemed really happy.”
