Chapter 24: Another Crisis!
Splash.
Ed’s hands entered the water before emerging with three small fish in their grip.
Leaving their familiar environment and finding themselves suddenly out of water, they began to twitch and writhe.
What else could they do?
Ed immediately morphed the hammer into a small knife. The blade danced around delicately as he used the tool to prepare the fish.
He first used it to remove all the scales on the surface of the fish, before rinsing them in clean water. Next, he cut open the fish.
After emptied the fish’s guts and chopping off the head, he buried the waste parts in the soil.
Ed didn’t like to eat fish heads. He had initially wanted to trade them away, but after mulling it over, he’d decided not to. There was barely any meat on them anyway, so it felt a little unkind.
After the prep work was done, the next step would be to start a fire to roast the fish.
Taking out a wooden stick that he had prepared beforehand, he skewered the three small fish, and placed them on the grill to begin the roasting process. This would take a while.
The sky gradually darkened as Ed raised the intensity of the fire and continuously spun the pike in the grill. An extremely rich fragrance was exuding from it.
Little Treasure, who had been at the side, could barely hold itself together. If it wasn’t for Ed’s constant warnings, it would have jumped onto the grill long ago.
Little Treasure had never eaten fish before. As it stood waiting at the side, it drooled non-stop. This scent was even more delectable than anything it had experienced before!
“Don’t fret, it’s not ready yet.”
Ed was also hungry himself, but the grilled fish was not fully cooked yet. He would definitely get sick if he ate it now.
The three small fish did not have much meat on them, and would definitely not fill his stomach. As such, Ed had decided to be a little lavish and prepared to use some of the anchovies for a delicious fish soup.
What followed was a scene of fish slaughter.
The anchovies were by far the smallest sized fish he had caught. If they were to be grilled, they would barely be enough to fill the gaps between his teeth.
As such, it would be best to use them to prepare fish soup.
This time, Ed washed the anchovies several times before using them, a method that was nothing short of extravagant. However, he still kept a watchful eye on the amount of water he used. After all, he did not have access to such a large water source anymore.
The preparations were soon complete.
This method of cooking the fish would definitely be much faster than roasting it.
He added clear water into the pot before placing it on the fire beside the barbecue grill.
Once it boiled, he would be able to put the prepared anchovies into the pot. Then, he would only need to wait quietly and he would soon be drinking the delicious fish soup.
Five minutes passed, and the water in the iron pot came to a boil. Knowing that it was time, he poured in all of the prepared anchovies. In a short while, a fragrance stronger than that of the grilled fish wafted out from the pot. Ed, who had already been hungry, could barely the saliva from flowing out of his mouth.
Little Treasure was the same. It did not even know how much saliva it had left.
The little critter stared straight at the iron pot looming before it. Had it not been for the fire, it would have jumped onto it.
They did not need to wait too long for the fish soup. In less than three minutes, it was done.
Ed hastily took out two wooden bowls that he had prepared, one big and one small. Obviously, they had been meant for himself and Little Treasure respectively.
Taking out a wooden spoon, Ed stirred the contents of the iron pot. The fragrance was overwhelming as it overflowed from it.
He first filled a bowl of soup for Little Treasure who was looking like it could not wait any longer, before pouring the rest into his own wooden bowl.
Little Treasure did not have a large appetite, so Ed only portioned just enough for it to be full.
He also had three grilled fish that would be ready soon, so he was not too afraid that he wouldn’t have enough. On the contrary, he was getting worried that he would not be able to finish everything.
Little Treasure slowly tasted the fish soup before revealing an expression of enjoyment.
What on Earth was this thing?!
How could it be so delicious?!
Little Treasure had never had something so delicious in its life. It immediately sped up eating, filling its mouth full of anchovy with every bite. It was more than comfortable.
Ed blew at the steam rising from his bowl before taking a small sip.
It was delicious!
It was such a delicacy in this world!
As expected of gold-quality fish, there was no fishy smell at all. Added with a little salt, it was simply delectable.
Ed also began to eat the anchovies one mouthful at a time.
The meat was fresh and tender, and simply impeccable.
The powerful aroma of the fish lingered in on his taste buds for a long time.
Eh?
After finishing his soup, Ed felt as if his body was undergoing a huge change.
Waves of warm currents flowed through every inch of his body.
The sensation was one of indescribable comfort.
Feeling the strength in his body slowly increasing, he thought to himself that these anchovies had surely been a blessing!
There were still a few more remaining in his bowl. After discovering this effect, Ed hurriedly gulped them down.
He could feel himself growing more in strength as he ate. In a short while, his bowl had been completely licked clean.
As expected, his strength continued to grow. He felt that his physique was improving very rapidly. This was completely different from the sensation of eating the chicken.
If the chicken had given him a surge of strength like a small river, the anchovies now were like a vast ocean. There was no comparison at all.
Ed clenched his fist. It felt hot, as if he had endless strength at his disposal.
Ten minutes later, the heat in his body had dispersed. He guessed, from what he felt, that his strength had at least doubled.
In addition to the increase in strength, his physique and other aspects had also received a small increase. The increase in physique, especially, brought along with it many benefits. Some common diseases would now no longer affect Ed’s body at all.
Just like a low-level antibody, it brought him some security.
Now, he wouldn’t have to worry about low-level diseases like catching a cold, which was beneficial.
Little Treasure had also quickly wiped out everything in its bowl. It lifted its limbs to the sky, stretching as it burped. Then, as usual, it rubbed his belly with its paws.
However, its expression abruptly shifted into one of extreme anxiety before it flew straight into Ed’s arms. Its body was trembling, as if it had seen something terrible.
Ed was puzzled at Little Treasure’s unusual behavior.
At the same time, an ominous premonition had struck his heart, and he felt a formidable sense of danger.
He felt that something bad was going to happen, and Ed was someone who always trusted his gut.
Looking around, his eyes widened in horror as he caught a glimpse of an unbelievable figure.
A tinge of regret hit Ed as he thought that maybe he shouldn’t have ventured out so far. His luck had finally failed him.
A tiger stalked out of the forest.
