Chapter 31: Massive Resources! Planting Peaches!
As soon as this self-proclaimed ‘ex-medical student’ survivor spoke, those who were feeling the same symptoms on their bodies quickly reached out.
“Doctor, then what should we do about our symptoms?”
“Yeah, hurry up and tell us. I feel more and more that my strength is constantly dissipating.”
“Where can we find salt in this forest?!”
After a few seconds, the survivor spoke again.
“According to the symptoms you’ve all expressed, you’re all currently only slightly lacking in salt. However, if you continue to be unable to take in any salt for a while after this, it’s very likely that your kidneys may fail.”
At those words, many of the other survivors began to panic.
Where could they find salt in this big forest? It was already a godsend if they were able to eat a full meal. Yet now they found out that if they did get their hands on salt, their kidneys would fail and they would die.
The chat interface was now roiling with activity, with many survivors paying attention to what was being discussed at the moment.
Many were also trying to trade their resources in exchange for salt.
“I have ten grams of crude salt here. Each gram of salt can be traded for 150 liters of water or five forest chickens. You can also exchange it for special items.”
As soon as the words appeared, the chat interface immediately exploded.
“Are you out of your mind? 150 liters of water? Are you going to open a swimming pool?”
“Your five forest chickens are a little too much. I’d be lucky to catch one or two in a week. How can I get you that many?”
“You may be a medical student, but don’t use coarse salt to fool people. Everyone knows that coarse salt can’t be eaten directly, there are harmful substances in it. We need refined salt.”
Ed didn’t speak just yet, but carried on watching the situation unfold quietly.
If crude salt could be sold at such a price, then what he could get out of his refined salt would have to be undoubtedly doubled.
Just as he had guessed, none of these survivors had their own salt well. Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been only these ten grams of crude salt on offer for such a long time.
Ed closed the chat interface before slowly walking over to the mouth of his well, opening the metal lid on it.
The snow-white hill came into view.
A huge amount of refined salt!
If this news were to leak out, who knew how many people would be fighting over it?
A few survivors had already been starting to trade crude salt, which was a good sign for Ed. If crude salt could be sold at such a ridiculous price, refined salt would be uncomparable.
However, Ed did not immediately expose the fact that he had refined salt. He planned to wait until the transaction of the coarse salt had been completed before making his move.
Time passed quickly, and all ten grams of coarse salt were snatched away after about an hour.
Those who did not manage to obtain it naturally began calling for help.
Ed knew that now, the time was right, so he typed in a paragraph before sending it out.
“I have 1,000 grams of refined salt. Trading Price: wood x100, leaf x100, metal sheet x100, …-”
He was still a man with a conscience. He had set a price that would be affordable to ordinary people who had to cut down trees legitimately. Compared to the outrageous price of the coarse salt before, his offer was undoubtedly many times better.
“Chicken man!”
“It must be chicken man again. Who else would have such an ability?!”
“I regret… If I had known earlier, I wouldn’t have traded with that darn guy. My five forest chickens!”
“Chicken man took out refined salt this time! The kind that can be eaten directly!”
“Yeah, and most people can afford the price of this trade. As expected of chicken man!”
“Are you still chatting? Let’s start snatching them!”
Looking at the rapidly decreasing stock of the goods he had put on sale, Ed couldn’t help but laugh.
He was getting a huge amount of resources!
He then looked towards the remaining salt in the salt well, and found that there was still a lot left over!
Ed quickly decided to sell as much as possible.
This transaction was only a one-time deal. If he applied his usual principle of limiting supply to create scarcity, he would definitely suffer a great loss.
After all, he knew that the survivors were not stupid. After this shortage crisis, when they now knew the importance of salt, they would definitely venture into the forest to find resources that could replace it. At that time, salt would definitely fall in value.
It was better to take advantage of the high demand now and make a huge profit in one go.
Ed put all of the salt in his well up for trade.
In twenty minutes, everything was sold out!
Ed closed the trading interface before checking his resources.
[ wood x270,000, leaves x200,000, metal pieces x20,000, stones x150,000, glass x9,000, plastics x40,000… ]
Hiss!
Ed took a sharp breath.
An astronomical amount of resources!
This trade had borne a huge profit!
Fortunately, he had the foresight to trade away all of the refined salt. If he had tried to do this in the future, it was unlikely that he would have found this much success.
Even if there was a buyer, no fool would have traded at the price he had set. In any case, Ed felt that he was becoming quite business-savvy.
The resources he had earned this time would last him quite a while. Actually, they would last more than a while.
Even if he could no longer sell refined salt, he still had other resources that he could use to trade with other survivors.
Fruits, crops, and seafood, these were all things that he could also sell at the moment.
As for seafood, he would have to go to the lake. There would definitely be a lot of fish there. This time, he would definitely catch all of them in one go!
“In the future, I won’t be able to cut things into small pieces and sell them anymore.”
Ed shook his head, feeling somewhat regretful.
This was all equivalent to a trend.
As time went on, the resources in the hands of each surviving person would only increase. If he continued trying to sell goods in small pieces, they would no longer accept it.
Anyway, the problem of resources was temporarily solved.
Now, the most important thing was to grow the peaches!
Ed couldn’t wait any longer. He picked an empty space not far from the apple tree, which would be convenient for him to take care of.
Transforming the hammer into a hoe, he quickly dug a hole.
From his storage space, Ed swiftly procured the peach seeds before putting them down. Following this, he took out some gold-grade soil to close off the hole, then sprinkled it with some water.
Success!
Now, he just needed to wait for the seeds to take root and germinate.
A minute passed, and a young seedling rose from the ground. The rate of its growth did not falter as it crawled upwards steadily.
This gold-grade soil really lived up to its reputation!
Ed rubbed his hands together as he watched the scene. Little Treasure wasn’t shocked either, it had already gotten used to such things happening. After all, it was not the first time it had seen it.
Ten minutes passed, and the growth of the peach slowed down.
The height of the seedling also stopped at about half a meter.
However, Ed did not feel any disappointment. He knew that a peach could not be compared to the other crops he had grown.
After all, the normal time it took this fruit to grow was about two years.
