Chapter 14: As Yummy as King Crab Meat

The giant beetle shrieked in fear as it tried to dodge, but Qin Hao refused to give it a chance. With a twist of his wrist, he slashed the sword down into the giant beetle’s horn.
With Qin Hao’s strength and the sharpness of the alloy sword, the horn did not stand a chance.
The giant beetle cried out in pain as its horn was severed from its head. As though it was a lethal injury, the giant beetle lost its strength and rolled on the ground while it fought the pain.
Taking advantage of the situation, Qin Hao aimed the sword at the wound and thrust it into the giant beetle’s head without hesitation, ending the bug’s life for good.
However, even with a sword through its brain, the giant commander beetle did not die immediately as Qin Hao had expected. Instead, it rocked its body.
“This guy is tough!” Qin Hao clenched the hilt of the sword with his hands so that he could remain on the giant beetle’s back and swing around as the bug shook.
It was true that Qin Hao had gained the strength of an insectoid and his abilities had undergone a comprehensive uplift in strength. Nevertheless, facing a two-meter-tall giant beetle even when it was lying down made his strength appear a little insignificant.
I can’t just stay like this! Qin Hao thought to himself. The giant beetle might have lost its ability to fight back, but he was also aware that they were in the insectoid’s territory. Once the other giant beetles heard its shriek, he knew that he would be done for. There was no way he could kill his way out with just an alloy sword.
“Go to hell!” Thinking of that, he used all of his strength and twisted the sword. Right then, the giant beetle instantly stopped struggling.
Fresh, dark green blood flowed out of the wound and down to the ground, corroding a vast piece of land. The giant commander beetle’s blood was apparently more toxic than that of ordinary giant beetles.
Qin Hao pulled the sword out and quickly took a few steps back for fear of coming into contact with the highly-corrosive bug blood.
He wiped the bug blood off the sword by scraping it against a tree. It was a decent sword, so the blade was not affected by the bug’s blood. It was still as sharp and shiny as before. Just as he wiped the last stain of bug blood off the blade, he found a drop of greenish substance on the back of his hand.
Qin Hao broke out in a cold sweat; the bug blood was highly corrosive. He instinctively wiped the substance away with his left hand. Only then did he discover that the bug blood seemed to pose him no harm.
Am I immune to this corrosive bug blood? The thought instantly came to mind. When he got wounded and lost an arm, he was covered in the brain matter of a dead insectoid. Supposedly, he should have been dead, corroded, and become a puddle of blood, but he survived. Thinking back on that experience now, he figured that his blood must probably have combined with the insectoid’s and produced some strange synergy.
Another blessing in disguise! Qin Hao was delighted. Earlier, he had already gained plenty of benefits from the insectoid’s blood. Now he had the bonus of immunity to bug poison.
“Let’s move on.” Qin Hao spun around and looked at the two astonished young women.
“He’s so handsome, oh gosh!” Lucia’s eyes lit up. She was right at that age when she was most attracted to guys, especially hot-blooded ones. She would break out in a frenzied scream upon seeing athletic guys, let alone a hero like Qin Hao who had killed a two-meter-tall giant beetle with just one cold weapon.
“Is he a human? Even our instructor isn’t as badass as him!” Nicole’s eyes were fixated on Qin Hao. Back when she was still in military training, she used to think that her burly instructor was the strongest man on Earth. But even then, that instructor could not kill a giant beetle without infantry body armor, let alone a giant commander beetle.
“Stop daydreaming. Let’s get out of here. Once those bugs arrive, we’ll be in deep sh*t!” Qin Hao’s words jolted them out of their daze.
The two women nodded involuntarily. The impression that special forces soldier, Nicole had of him had taken a one-eighty turn as well; she no longer saw Qin Hao as a loser, mess cook but a god-like existence.
It was easy to win someone’s trust when you were successful. Right then, Nicole was starting to think the sun rose and set on Qin Hao.
However, that impression did not last three minutes; they heard a growl coming from Qin Hao’s stomach, and their expression instantly took a strange turn.
Qin Hao could not help it; he had been starving since his severed arm recovered. Trudging through the thick tropical jungle was making him even hungrier. He might have looked heroic by killing that giant commander beetle, but it was also physically exhaustive. He could swallow an elephant, given how hungry he was right now.
“You two have something to eat?” Qin Hao asked in embarrassment.
“No.” Lucia and Nicole spread their hands out. They were both not the lowest-ranked mechanized infantry. They entered the battlefield in a rescue vessel and would be back in the battleship in no time, so there was no need to bring any food with them.
“Okay.” Qin Hao nodded, appearing a little disappointed.
Right then, the corpse of the giant beetle tumbled to the ground, and it broke a few legs, exposing white tissue.
Qin Hao’s eyes lit up; his gut feeling told him that the meat was yummy.
“What are you going to do, Qin Hao?” Nicole noticed his strange expression.
“Nothing. I just want to get some snacks!” Qin Hao could no longer hold back because he was really starving, and he walked up to the giant beetle’s corpse.
Swinging the sword in his hand, he quickly cut off four or five bug legs, which were small. Even so, each was as large as an adult’s thigh.
“Don’t tell me that you’re going to…” As a special forces soldier, Nicole had learned mandatory jungle surviving skills, so she immediately knew what Qin Hao was going to do. The thing was, the giant beetle was poisonous. Was its meat edible at all?
“Look, there’s no greenish blood in the legs; they should be non-poisonous!” Qin Hao explained. In fact, whether it was poisonous or not was none of his concern. After all, he had immunity.
“I need fire.” Qin Hao went up to Nicole and got a tiny flame thrower from her. The item was usually used to incinerate bodies or clear paths. It had now become Qin Hao’s barbeque tool.
The yellowish-brown shell on the giant beetle’s leg turned red once it was cooked.
Qin Hao then broke the shell on the leg and gave it a little blow to cool it down before digging in.
“Holy moly, this is so good! It tastes like king crab meat!” Qin Hao was being truthful. The bug’s white meat was yummy even with no seasoning. It melted in the mouth and was extremely delicate in flavor.
