Game of Apocalypse - Chapter 38
Chapter 38 Beast Shapeshifter
Odin trudged over to the end of the hallway. At the end of it was a sturdy-looking carved wooden door.
Unlike the other rooms, the door of other rooms was tightly shut while this was completely opened. Besides, it was opened in a hurry as the side of the door was slightly deformed under excessive force when opening it. A piece of carving on the door also fell to the ground.
There was certainly someone in this room, perhaps the source of the abnormal fluctuation of spirit energy just now. However, the damages on the door indicated it wasn’t a Spirit Warlock, had Odin sensed wrong? Odin caressed his chin in thought while standing in front of the door without any intentions of entering.
Although Odin was certain there wasn’t any person that was stronger than Adolf, the fight just now also consumed much of his spirit energy. Moreover, his enemy was in the shadows while he was in the light, so it was easy to be ambushed.
Constant caution and vigilance always were the right answers.
No movements came out of the room, not even the slightest sound of breathing. If it wasn’t for Odin certain he sensed the fluctuation of a spirit being, he might even suspect he was being paranoid.
Despite the door being opened, every window within the room was shut tight, even the curtain too. A pitch-black blanketed the room, the only source of light was the dim light in the hallway which allowed Odin barely grasped the room’s condition.
There weren’t any noticeable things in the room except for a cupboard, two tables, and several scattered chairs. It seemed to be a room with miscellaneous items around without anyone living in it.
Odin’s patience was thinning out. The person within the room was certain Odin was standing at the entrance but was unwilling to come out. Thus, Odin was forced to take some measures!
Conjuring dozens of icicles, with a slight twist on his palm, the icicles scattered and bolted towards the room. The icicles struck the furniture in the room and let out thudding sounds. Among the thudding sounds, one of them was accompanied by a sound of hurried gasp and the noise of something dropping.
“Aren’t you coming out?” Odin, at the entrance, leaned against the wall of the hallway while crossing his arms. He stared straight at the dark room ahead of him. “If you aren’t coming out, you’ll just be fending more icicles. You may even die inside there.” Odin frowned as impatience could be found on his face.
After a breathtaking silence, the sounds of footsteps finally resounded out of the room. Odin’s expression turned solemn with hints of wariness, staring at the entrance.
Three seconds later, a youth with slightly long wine-colored hair came out. The youth had an irritated expression as if a bomb going to explode. Anger could be seen in his expression.
“I don’t intend to fight you. If you choose to run just now, you may have survived!” The youth was Eren and he was livid.
“Aren’t I the one the Black Death Society wanted to kill? Why don’t you want to fight me?” Odin was perplexed by the brat’s wording. Every member of the Black Death Society viewed him as a lamb waiting to be slaughtered, why would someone be hiding and not wanting to kill him?
“Because you killed Adolf!” Eren’s voice was relatively irritated as if unwilling to explain anything to Odin.
Odin lamented by the side, No matter which group, there’s always internal strife.
“Since you don’t want to leave and stubbornly stayed behind to look for death, I’ll satisfy you!” As Eren spoke, his ten fingernails swelled, resembling a beast. His initial straightened back was also slightly bent akin to a predator going to pounce on its prey.
He wasn’t a Spirit Warlock? Then, where did the fluctuation come from? Odin scrunched his forehead as dozens of icicles formed and darted toward Eren.
Unbeknownst to him, Eren had an extreme speed, like a cheetah hunting its prey. With a ‘swoosh’, Eren appeared before Odin. Odin rolled behind and with his back against the wall, he leaped and landed behind Eren.
Judging from Eren’s speed and the transformation of his body, his profession was likely to be the Beast Shapeshifter. One who absorbed the blood of a powerful lifeform to activate one’s bloodline, allowing one to possess a beast-like strength.
Squinting his eyes, Odin carefully examined Eren’s eyes. Traces of glittering waves glowed on Eren’s reddened eyes. The glittering waves seemed to be similar to the spirit energy possessed by a Spirit Warlock.
Odin’s brain was gearing fast. If Beast Shapeshifters absorbed powerful lifeforms to activate their bloodlines, then the traces of spirit energy on Eren must be absorbed from a lifeform that transformed into a spirit being with spirit energy.
No wonder Eren was acting confidently. If Odin’s estimation was correct, then no one in the HQ knew Eren had absorbed a spirit being, so they were unaware of Eren’s growth.
Odin conjured an Ice Barrier in front of him to avoid the damage caused by Eren’s sudden assault.
Eren was a Beast Shapeshifter, who focused on Agility. Coupled with the spirit he absorbed, his prowess was at its peak. Furthermore, Odin’s fight with Adolf just now consumed much of his spirit energy, and was still recovering. It was out of the question for Odin to clash head-on with Eren.
The beastified Eren was akin to losing his sanity, his eyes were bloodshot, and propped on the ground with four limbs. His lengthened nails scratched the ground, releasing ‘screek’ noises, as though going to pounce and bite Odin’s artery at any moment.
The moment the Ice Barrier vanished, Eren fiercely plunged toward Odin. Odin had dodged sideways but his neck was still scratched.
If Odin were to dodge any slower or he didn’t learn any combat technique which increased his Agility, the scratch just now would land on his artery, killing him instantly.
Touching the wounds on his neck, Odin’s brow furrowed even deeper. The person in front of him was another cumbersome enemy. Although Eren wasn’t stronger, he was fast and knowledgeable on fatal spots, suitable for one-hit kills, similar to an Assassin-class hero in a game.
Nevertheless, this kind of power had a fatal weakness behind it. Odin coldly chuckled.
