At 6:45 in the morning, Lin Yao was woken up by her alarm clock as usual.
“So noisy!” Jiang Mingshu murmured unhappily at the noise, and only then did Lin Yao remember where she was. She immediately turned off the alarm on her phone, then quickly got up from bed.
This was the employee housing dorm of Orlando Apparel and was also where Jiang Mingshu lived.
Jiang Mingshu had three roommates. In the master bedroom next door lived an old employee of their company, and his surname was Jiang. He was pale and skinny and didn’t speak much, but he was really good at doing household chores.
In the small room on the opposite side lived Sister Chu, who was about 37 to 38 years old. She was an inspector and usually worked in various places outside. Since Lin Yao only came to see Jiang Mingshu occasionally, she did not see her frequently.
Although this three-bedroom apartment wasn’t particularly large, everyone got along well, and it was very cozy. The best part was that it was located right beside Wulin Square, so it was a bus ride away from any place in Hangzhou.
For young people like Lin Yao, who had no family background and loved to shop around, this really was the ideal place to live. Unfortunately, with her meager salary, she couldn’t afford to buy a home in such a prime location.
It wasn’t like she hadn’t thought of working at Orlando Apparel so she could afford to live in such an apartment, but her height didn’t meet the requirements, so… In short, saying anything further would simply bring her to tears.
Lin Yao stopped her mind from sidetracking, and since the others hadn’t gotten out of bed yet, she seized the chance to do her grooming routine.
After she finished tidying herself up, she returned to Jiang Mingshu’s room and discovered that a certain someone was still sleeping her head off.
It was only 7:05. Jiang Mingshu went to work at 9:00, and her dormitory was very close to her workplace, so she really didn’t have to get up that early.
Lin Yao couldn’t help but envy Jiang Mingshu’s luck in life. During college, Jiang Mingshu’s grades were average, but she still managed to graduate. After graduation, everybody was frantically searching around for a job, yet she managed to enter Orlando Apparel without putting much effort into it.
Orlando Apparel was one of the largest companies in Hangzhou, and her boss appeared on the Forbes Billionaires list at a young age.
Most importantly, Orlando Apparel paid a high salary and had good welfare benefits. Moreover, many handsome men and beautiful women also worked at the company.
Jiang Mingshu was not only successful in the workplace, but she also triumphed in her love life as well. Many tall, rich, and handsome men that graduated from prestigious universities were chasing after her as well.
How would she be anything like her?
Lin Yao thought about how she was finally hired by Tianfeng Company, only to be fired. She finally found a boyfriend with much difficulty but was then cheated on.
She couldn’t help feeling that their lives weren’t comparable at all…
Lin Yao suddenly remembered that she was too overjoyed yesterday, and she forgot to ask Lingyun Industry what time she should report to work, so she had to go early.
“Mingshu wake up, get up from bed!”
“Please, let me sleep a little longer!” Jiang Mingshu, who struggled to get up in the morning, protested in bed.
“Get up, let’s have breakfast together.”
“Alright… Wait a minute…” Saying that Jiang Mingshu’s procrastination was serious was an understatement.
“Mingshu, this is my first day of reporting to work at my new company. Should I leave early?”
“Wait a minute!”
With a messy ruffle of short hair, Jiang Mingshu shot up from the bed, then quickly dressed and washed herself.
Five minutes later, Jiang Mingshu had already finished grooming herself and even took time to wash her hair!
She was unbelievably efficient!
******
In the early morning, the Yan Zhili neighborhood community appeared very lively. The elderly had returned from exercising outside, and the children were carrying huge book bags as they headed to school.
Lin Yao and Jiang Mingshu appeared refreshed as they walked out of Yan Zhili, and they found an empty table to sit down in front of at the breakfast cafe at the entrance of their neighborhood community.
“Owner, I want a serving of little steamed buns, a bowl of sweet soy milk soup, and a bowl of savory soy milk soup.”
Jiang Mingshu suffered from procrastination, so Lin Yao ordered her breakfast together as well.
There was still some greasiness and liquid left on the small table. Jiang Mingshu took out a paper towel from her bag. Lin Yao took one as well, and the two of them began to wipe the table.
“Yao, hurry up and tell me what this new company is all about?”
Since breakfast hadn’t arrived yet, Jiang Mingshu seized the opportunity to ask about Lin Yao’s new job. After all, she just found out that Lin Yao was unemployed the night before. She didn’t expect her to find a new job so quickly.
There were many unemployed people in this world, but not many people could find a job in as little as one day.
The night before, she pulled an all-nighter to watch a soap drama, so she forgot to get to the bottom of this.
“I went to Tianfeng Company yesterday to pick up my check. After I left, I bought a newspaper, and I just happened to see a nearby company recruiting people, so I went in for an interview.” Lin Yao said nonchalantly.
“Then what happened, you got the job just like that?” Jiang Mingshu was dumbstruck.
“Yeah, didn’t I tell you yesterday already?” Lin Yao felt a little helpless.
At this time, their breakfast arrived. It was a basket of ten little steamed buns and two bowls of soy milk soup.
Lin Yao placed the savory bowl in front of Jiang Mingshu and placed the sweet one in front of herself. Then she picked up the spoon in the plastic bin beside the table and started to stir it to dissolve the unmelted sugar underneath.
Upon seeing that the person sitting opposite of her still appeared a little stunned, Lin Yao helped her get the vinegar dish and asked her, “Do you want to add some vinegar?”
“Add some for me…” Jiang Mingshu tried to recall something, but she couldn’t remember anything after thinking for a while. “Hey, when did you tell me this yesterday?”
“I did, while you were watching TV.”
Lin Yao did tell her, and more than once.
However, at that time, Jiang Mingshu’s mind was probably preoccupied with Takashi Kashiwabara.
“Eat your breakfast, it’ll get cold soon if you don’t eat it!” Jiang Mingshu discreetly tried to change the subject.
Lin Yao was still slowly eating, but Jiang Mingshu had already wolfed down all her food.
She asked contemplatively, “Yao, perhaps the company you’re talking about deceives students who have just graduated because they haven’t yet stepped into society… they could be a scamming company?”
Lin Yao wondered if her friend’s imagination was a little too wild. “What are you even thinking?”
What could that woman from Lingyun Industry possibly deceive her about?
In other words, what did she have that would motivate them to try to deceive her?
Jiang Mingshu had always been a girl that spoke her mind directly. “Because you look very easy to deceive!”
Lin Yao grew morose and suddenly felt that today’s breakfast no longer tasted that good.
“Alright, alright, I won’t say anything anymore. You just eat faster, you’re way too slow!”
After parting ways with Jiang Mingshu, Lin Yao went to the bus station and soon got on Bus Route No. 55.
When she arrived on the 26th floor of the Yueyang Building, she found that the place was completely empty.
Lin Yao peered through the glass door for a long while, and she discovered that there was indeed no one inside, and there were no office supplies on the desk either.
What was this situation?
Was it true that Lingyun Industry was really a “scamming company” like Jiang Mingshu had said?
That can’t be true, right?
She suddenly remembered what the woman said on the phone yesterday: “We are a startup company, so we need to recruit a lot more people…”
Oh my God…
Lin Yao suddenly realized that she was probably the first employee of this company!
