Chapter 44: Su Jin
Liang Xinchen looked at Hua Jinan as Hua Jinan unlocked his brows and revealed a businessman’s smile. “Aren’t you going? If not, take it that I said nothing just now.”
“I’ll go now.” Liang Xinchen laughed as he replied. After which, he gritted his teeth and remarked, “Profiteer!”
Hua Jinan chuckled softly. “Money gives you the right to be willful!”
Su Bei’s eyes remained fixed on the car that was parked not far away. She was unsure if the new governor was sitting in that car.
She was praying in her heart that he would see them.
To her surprise, the car door opened.
A pair of bright and clean leather shoes showed up before her. On the shoes, a startled woman was reflected in it.
Su Bei did not expect she would meet an old friend on this occasion.
She deliberately hid the history for too long. So long that she did not recall his name when she heard it over the radio.
Liang Xinchen got out of the car, looking at the two women kneeling on the ground.
One of them was young, and both of them looked like they were mother and daughter.
“What are your grievances?” The man narrowed his eyes as his edged eyes were filled with inquiries.
Usually, he would not sit around and do nothing about it, but rather, he would get his men to handle the issue without him handling things personally.
Yao Guizhen brought Su Bei here to file a complaint many times, but she had never seen anyone from the authorities.
As such, she was so tense that she could not make any sense in her speech. “Mr. Governor, I hope you can be kind and help us. Are you… the governor?”
“Yes.” Liang Xinchen spoke with affirmation.
This was the first time Yao Guizhen had seen such a high-ranked official. For a moment, her tears streamed down her face, and she began to hit her head on the ground. “I beg the governor for justice to be done!”
“Get up first. This doesn’t look good,” said Liang Xinchen.
Su Bei held Yao Guizhen’s hand and slowly said, “Mr. Governor, we want to redress our grievances. If you don’t help us, we won’t get up.”
Su Bei’s voice was trembling, but it was music to the ears still.
Liang Xinchen narrowed his eyes as he cast his sights onto Su Bei.
“I won’t ignore this since I already got out of the car. Get up first and hand me your written complaint. I’ll send someone to contact you later.” As Liang Xinchen spoke, there was some doubt in his eyes.
Yet, Su Bei replied, “The previous governors and mayors said the same thing too. But there is no news after we submitted the written complaint.”
She gritted her teeth and continued, “Unless you’re willing to meet us and provide us with a trustworthy solution, we’ll remain on our knees.”
This was Liang Xinchen’s first day as governor, yet he was met with such an incident. The most important issue was that they did not believe him.
He was a little unhappy about it. “Since I’ve given you my word, I’ll do it. If you don’t believe me, don’t bother coming to me.”
“We have no way out!” As soon as his voice trailed off, the crisp, clear voice of the girl was heard again.
Liang Xinchen narrowed his eyes again. “You are…”
Su Bei slowly lifted her head up with a clear conscience and her inky eyes were composed. “It’s me, Su Jin!”
Su Jin, a name from six years ago.
Beibei was her nickname, and she changed her name after being released from prison so that she could start a new life.
Liang Xinchen’s eyes dimmed as a look of slight disdain reflected in his eyes. Even though it was subtle, Su Bei spotted it nonetheless.
At this time, Liang Xinchen’s phone rang.
When he saw the caller on the screen, he frowned. He picked up the phone and answered the call. Hua Jinan was on the other line and he said, “Agree to all her requests!”
Liang Xinchen’s expression was as cold as a block of ice. “Mr. Hua, you’re meddling too much. I’m the governor!”
When Su Bei heard the words “Mr. Hua,” her heart skipped a beat. But she quickly cast away the thought. The man that he mentioned might not be the one who was pestering her.
On the other side of the line, the voice was harsh. “She’s pregnant with my son. You make the call!”
