Chapter 44: Is She Eating Your Family’s Rice?
He suppressed the urge to touch her, and their “cold war” continued the entire way.
He dutifully lived up to his responsibilities as an “air conditioner.”
Ji Anan didn’t bother to pay him any attention, and shrinking herself in a corner, she made sure to stay far away from him.
Under the sunlight, the Beiming manor looked magnificent. The tall fences were like fortresses that fortified a palace, and the moat that bordered the manor was a river that contained blossoming white water lilies.
Layers and layers of columns were positioned together like a covered walkway. Beiming Yechen sat on the steps of the entrance as he eagerly awaited their return.
Upon seeing the Bentley driving towards them from a far distance, the maids started shouting one after another.
“He’s back!”
“The young master has returned!”
Thus, Ji Anan immediately caught sight of Beiming Yechen making a beeline towards them. He was grinning from ear to ear as he ran wildly.
The car hadn’t even been properly parked yet before Beiming Yechen eagerly pressed his handsome face up against the car window and peered inside, as if he were observing animals in a zoo.
Ji Anan opened the car door without telling him, and the door smacked Beiming Yechen’s body with a thump.
Beiming Shaoxi climbed out of the car with an impassive expression on his face, threw the car keys to a servant to park the car, then walked into the manor without saying a single word.
Beiming Yechen stroked his chin with his hand. He looked back and forth between Beiming Shaoxi and Ji Anan, then smirked teasingly. “After seeing that you guys are riddled with romantic plights, I feel relieved.”
Ji Anan forcefully stepped on his foot.
“Little country bumpkin, did you really agree to marry my brother? What caused you to suddenly lose your mind? Why don’t you share the story of how you made him mad so we can all have a good laugh?”
She said nothing.
“He always has that same poker face plastered on, so you know how difficult it is to make him visibly upset.”
Ji Anan walked straight ahead as Beiming Yechen nagged her incessantly while walking next to her.
“Beiming Yechen, I am truly annoyed with you!”
Ji Anan stopped in her tracks abruptly and vented all the anger that had been building up at the innocent Beiming Yechen.
Beiming Yechen stopped dead in his tracks and stared at her with a wounded expression on his face.
“Don’t follow me anymore.”
Ji Anan kept walking forward, and sure enough, he wasn’t following her anymore.
A maid walked towards him with an ice pack. “Second Young Master, you’ve been standing under the sun for three hours. Here, put on this ice pack, or else you’ll get heat stroke.”
The second young master had been waiting outside the manor ever since the older young master had left in the morning.
Ji Anan was slightly stunned and turned her head back in surprise to see the despondent and sulky expression on Beiming Yechen’s face.
She wanted to call out and apologize to him, but on second thought… she changed her mind.
She could sense the hostility from all the maids’ burning eyes on her.
“Why is it someone like her? She isn’t suitable for the young master at all.”
“The old master is crossing a line by doing this…”
“Even I wouldn’t want to give her a second look, let alone the young master.”
Beiming Yechen suddenly appeared beside the bed of flowers. “Close your eyes if you don’t want to look at her. Is she eating your family’s rice or spending your family’s money?” The Beiming family had no aversion to her and was willing to take care of her!
The maids instantly cowered, and with their heads downcast, they started apologizing profusely.
“Go get me a ladder.” He glanced towards the study on the second floor.
…
The hardcover books were a collection that came from all over the world.
Of course, the collection of books in this room was only the tip of the iceberg for the Beiming family. They had a book cellar that was much larger than the average library.
Beiming Shaoxi stood before a wine cabinet in the corner. His slender figure was standing upright, and he appeared to have stepped right out of a painting. The French-style wine cabinet was embellished with crystal-like glass, and the refracted light caused a dazzling gleam.
The architectural style of the study was harmonious with the rest of the Beiming manor’s architectural style, and walking inside gave one the sensation of entering a European palace.
She went straight to the point. “I want the marriage to be as simple and hassle-free as possible, so I don’t want a formal wedding ceremony.”
