Shen Li’s words gave Zhong Ning a lot to mull over. After a while, she finally agreed.
“Oh, okay. I’ll ask Gu Sheng and ask him to make arrangements.”
Shen Li raised her eyebrows when she heard Gu Sheng’s name. Zhong Ning seemed to put a lot of trust in him. He was almost always the first person that came to Zhong Ning’s mind.
After Zhong Ning left, Shen Li gathered her thoughts. She had to make this airtight. She would have to seek out some manpower when it came to claiming the shop.
The only people Gu Sheng could find were the servants in the backyard. It would most definitely not be enough, so she would have to find her own methods.
After leaving Shen Li’s place, Zhong Ning could barely focus.
She walked back to her own courtyard in a daze. She was so caught up on what Shen Li had just said that did not notice the person who had walked over from the corner.
A few seconds later, there was a cry.
“Ah!”
Zhong Ning crashed into a muscular and attractive chest, and she let out a scream.
Gu Sheng held Zhong Ning’s waist with one hand and only let go after he had stabilized her. He looked down at Zhong Ning and said calmly, “Be careful.”
After speaking, Gu Sheng did not leave. He stood in front of Zhong Ning and asked her, “What’s wrong? You are distracted.”
Zhong Ning only returned to her senses after she looked at him. When she realized how close they were to each other, she awkwardly took a step back.
She was just about to blurt out, “I’m fine,” but caught herself.
“I was just looking for you. Come to my courtyard first.”
The two of them walked forward together and happened to see Ming Yue standing not far away.
Ming Yue was Zhong Ning’s accompanying maid for her wedding and had been with her for many years. Zhong Ning guessed that she was here to look for her, so she called her over.
On the way back, Ming Yue stared at Gu Sheng’s back, almost boring a hole in him.
When she thought of the scene just now, she felt that her heart was about to jump out of her throat.
Ming Yue had seen it all. Gu Sheng had seen Madam, but did not move away. He had stood there on purpose and waited for Madam to bump into him.
She had always felt that Gu Sheng treated Madam differently, but she could not quite put her finger to it.
When she thought of Gu Sheng’s hand on Zhong Ning’s waist, she broke out in a cold sweat.
Madam was simply unfamiliar with the ways of the world and could not see through his little thoughts.
Ming Yue was still criticizing him when the person in front suddenly stopped. Gu Sheng suddenly turned to look at her.
Gu Sheng’s facial features were more angular than the average person’s. His eyes were also different from the average person’s. They were a little blue. It might not be obvious during the day, but it was very obvious at night. It sometimes spooked Ming Yue out.
Ming Yue was stunned by his gaze and asked him nervously, “W-Why? What’s wrong?”
Gu Sheng’s tone was even and purposeful.
“The Butler was looking for you just now.”
Ming Yue did not dare to look him in the eye, but she subconsciously felt that he was up to no good. Who knew if he was deliberately sending her away? She answered, “I’ll go later.”
This time, Gu Sheng remained silent. Instead, Zhong Ning spoke up.
“You should hurry up and see what’s up. I’m alright here.”
“But Madam…”
I’m really fine,” Zhong Ning said. Hurry up and go.
Ming Yue looked at Zhong Ning’s innocent face and wailed in her heart.
‘Madam, you should be more careful.’
..
The first thing Zhong Ning said when she and Gu Sheng returned to the courtyard was, “Gu Sheng, get some people and come with me two days later to take back the land and shops under my name.”
Gu Sheng was stunned when he heard this. He looked straight at Zhong Ning with a stoic expression.
The sky was getting dark, and Gu Sheng was standing in the dark. He always had a statue-like face, so the innocent Zhong Ning did not notice anything strange about him.
