Chapter 11: The Picture

Lucy was bothered by the people’s reaction, including the paparazzi’s infatuation. She gritted her teeth.
Zipping through the crowd, the director handed the script over to Ning Xue, shoving Jiang Sheng out of the way as he explained the particulars. Unlike the exasperation he displayed minutes ago, he was now patient. It was the first time the crew saw how gentle their boss could be for beauty. For sure, the Oscar winner’s wife already secured a free ride to Hollywood with her dazzling looks if she ever wanted to, making it to the top of the A-list celebrities.
There were three scenes Ning Xue had to shoot. The first one was their reconciliation, the second and the third a flashback. The time allocated for that minor role was little, and they were only supposed to film one scene, and the rest would be the male and female protagonists. Yet, insanity went all over the director and producers—Ning Xue was the only one catching their eyes that day.
Ning Xue didn’t stay long in the makeup room, and all she did was change into her set costume. Even though she barely wore anything on her face, it still left everyone dumbstricken.
A light blue dress with a cropped white cardigan on the outside had outlined all her curves perfectly. As the wind blew through her wavy hair, it lifted the strands high up in the air as they danced, her thin hair on her forehead unable to escape the breeze. There weren’t any other accessories she wore—only a pale blue ribbon tied around her hair. On her neck was an amethyst pendant glowing purple, complimenting her fair skin. It made her look divine—like she belonged in Eden instead of Earth.
While the camera was rolling, Jiang Sheng had a fit of unexplainable jealousy mixed over his overflowing emotions, and Ning Xue had sensed it. So the moment the director called “cut”, she tip-toed and quickly pressed her lips on his.
Jiang Sheng blushed, gazing into her eyes intensely. At that second, they still didn’t know that they had created a picture that would break the internet.
“Excuse me—this is his wife? Holy smokes. I take back everything I’ve said—she’s a hottie!”
“She’s as pretty as her name. No—she’s even prettier than Snow White!”
Most of the filming involved switching sets between an apartment and a school.
“Scene 2, action!”
It was the recollection of the man and his first love back when they were in school.
A young boy got awakened by his mother’s voice in the morning. “Jack, breakfast’s ready!” In his thoughts, it was a dimmed memory, yet the familiar voice had warmed him to his core.
Standing before the bathroom countertop was Jiang Sheng in his school uniform. On the mirror, his reflection was full of youth and vigor. Following that, he was riding on his bicycle, heading to school.
“Prop car and driver, get ready.”
Just as the boy got lost in his thoughts, a black sedan flew past him. He steered away from the road in his reflexes, barely avoiding an accident before he lost control of his bike and crashed into a street vendor. He fell.
He hissed in pain—what a bad omen it was for his first day back to school.
He managed to get up and pulled his shirt, scanning the area for the black sedan which had caused the mishap—but it was long gone. He gave up on chasing after it, lifted his bicycle back with both wheels intact on the ground, and pedaled on. There was no way his two-wheeled transport would be able to catch up with a four-wheeled automobile anyway.
After parking his bike at the designated spot, he strolled towards his classroom, enjoying the view on the way.
Everything went smooth on camera.
“Keep that rolling. Good, good.”
The boy found a seat in the classroom and sat down.
“Ready, extras.”
The students came into the room one after another.
“Hi. Is this seat taken?”
He titled his head towards the source.
A golden ray of light beamed down onto her expressionless face. Jiang Sheng held his breath—how stunning she was. It was long after he stared at her that he found his voice. “No, it’s free.” He never looked up again.
That was the first time both of the characters met in the plot.
“Extras, where are your lines?”
The extras were too absorbed in the two that they had forgotten to speak. No one could’ve resisted not looking at the gorgeous-looking couple..
