Could the slender figure who carried little Qian into the cabin be little Qian’s father?
From behind, Jiang Ning thought the man had looked too young, but it was still hard to say. In this era, it was customary for men to get married and have children by the age of fifteen or sixteen. So, it shouldn’t be surprising for a man in their twenties to have a four or five-year-old son.
The most noticeable thing about that man was his clothes. His robes were gorgeous, and even from the little she saw, his demeanor was very charismatic and poised.
That man was clearly not some ordinary villager.
Thinking back to the one thousand pieces of silver that little Qian had casually taken out that day, she could conclude that the boy came from a wealthy family.
But there was one thing that she didn’t understand. If their family were so well-off, why did Old Li always come to visit her dilapidated shop for her food?
‘And yet he never gave me money for them!”
Jiang Ning wanted to ask these people for more details, but from how cold and distant the guards were, she knew she wouldn’t have the chance to do so.
However, this wasn’t’ her main priority. Everything was fine as long as she knew that little Qian was safe and sound.
It didn’t take long for the boat to reach the shore.
Jiang Yi and the others came over and asked Jiang Ning.
Because her curtained hat had fallen off, everybody could see Jiang Ning’s pure and beautiful face. Shang Lanyi’s eyes widened at the sight of the girl.
Jiang Yan quickly took out a handkerchief and wiped the water off her Seventh Sister’s face.
“Seventh Sister, why did you let go?” Jiang Yi worriedly asked as he inspected the girl, “How are you feeling? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?”
“I saw that child fall into the water, so I saved him.” Jiang Ning explained before she sneezed. “Moreover, Fifth Sister’s hairpin keeps stabbing my hand. I couldn’t stand it.”
Meanwhile, standing a little away from the group, Jiang Yuan watched them with messy hair, and her face was pale.
The Fifth Lady was devastated. She loved her hair the most, and Jiang Ning had pulled a lot of her hair.
However, she must admit that it was her who had tripped the wheelchair over the bridge. She had no one to blame but herself.
Jiang Yuan kept her mouth shut in shame. She was so frustrated and embarrassed that she wanted nothing more but to complain, but she couldn’t. Not when it was really her fault.
The boat didn’t’ dock for long. Once Jiang Ning was safely transferred back to shore, it left without another word.
Jiang Yi glanced at the leaving boat and frowned, “I don’t know whose ship it is since there’s no mark, but that’s rude. Seventh Sister saved someone, yet they didn’t even say an ounce of gratitude.”
“I d-didn’t’ save the child to be thanked. What’s important is that e-everyone is safe. B-besides, I know that child. E-even if I didn’t’ fall, I’d still save him.” The girl shivered.
Jiang Ning sneezed again.
It was only the middle of spring, and despite the warm air,the water was still cold.
She was wrapped in a cloak to fight against the wind, but her clothes were still wet, clinging uncomfortably to her skin.
Jiang Yi was nervous. If his youngest sister fell sick, he could not face his father. And he couldn’t bring her home still soaked like this. She might have gotten worse on their way back. He’ll need her to get warm and have her check-up first.
He turned his head to scan the area. When he saw what he was looking for, he turned back to them, “There’s a medic hut not far away. I’ll take Seventh Sister to have her checked up. Sixth Sister, come with me. Brother Shang, I’m’ sorry to inconvenience you, but I need your help to accompany Fifth Sister back home. Fifth Sister, once you arrive home, please remember to send someone over with some clothes for Seventh Sister.”
“Third Brother is sending me home?” Jiang Yuan asked, feeling like she had been wronged.
“Seventh Sister fell into the water, I have to take her to the medical hut first. Be good.”
Jiang Yi was a little displeased that they were still making a fuss while they could be up and moving to get Jiang Ning somewhere warmer.
Seeing the deep frown on her older brother’s face, Jiang Yuan didn’t dare to insist any more. Without further prompting, she left with Shang Lanyi, though still with a heavy heart and dragging her feet.
The reason why Jiang Yi brought Jiang Yan with him was that he wanted her to help Jiang Ning change her clothes and comb her hair. Although he was the older brother, he was all grown up and still had to avoid it.
…
The clinic was massive, and they were quickly ushered to a small room once Jiang Yi explained the situation.
It didn’t’ take long for one of Jiang Ning’s elderly maids to come over with a set of clean and dry clothes for the Seventh Lady…
Jiang Yan helped Jiang Ning change her clothes. Once they were done, the youngest girl was given a big bowl of hot ginger soup to warm her body up. Despite her damped hair, Jiang Ning felt warmer and more comfortable.
Through it all, Jiang Yan was always by her side, ready to aid the young girl without any prompting. Although she didn’t say much, the Sixth Lady was very considerate, and never once did she complain.
Jiang Yan was always invincible in the Jiang family. Her presence was entirely overshadowed by her older sister, Jiang Yuan.
She was very submissive and had a soft personality, always so obedient to the point that made her look a little weak. But she was very considerate in taking care of the youngest sister.
Jiang Ning watched as the Sixth Lady wrapped up Jiang Ning’s wet clothes and asked the elderly woman to bring them back home.
