Here Lies The Wicked - Chapter 47
Chapter 47: Bait
The notification from Wechat caused his phone to slightly vibrate, and Fang Zheng instantly received the shared address.
The moment Fang Zheng laid his eyes on the address, he was completely speechless.
It was located deep within the mountains and to get there, it would take him most of the day to drive there.
Fang Zheng promised Lu Dong a few days ago to be present for the entirety of the movie shoot. His main purpose there was only to provide Lu Dong the mental courage to meet up with his goddess.
That lady would be the most praised and the most likable star within the Four Flowers Girl Group, Ye Qianqi.
Now that Lu Dong was currently part of the production crew, and since he had some connections locally in Zhou City, he was already on his way to meet up with her. However, it seemed the movie set team had also just arrived at the scene causing Lu Dong to call Fang Zheng out of excitement and impatience.
It seemed there were still some people from the cast who had yet to arrive. The only thing they could do was to get some cinematic shots of the landscape.
Therefore, he still had a couple of days left.
Judging from Lu Dong’s tone as he spoke, it seemed this single movie shoot was not a mediocre project. It was a modern war film and had contracted some A-list actors.
The main plot of this movie was about a military incident that had happened overseas. The main purpose of this current shoot was only to record some local scenes. It was only natural that Lu Dong was not allowed access to the overall main script, as only the film director, producers, and all of the more important actors would have knowledge of it.
After chatting for a bit, a low battery alert chimed, and it seemed that the percentage of his phone’s battery was below 20 percent.
The sky above was completely dark at this moment.
When he looked at the time on his cell phone, it showed, 19:03.
…
[My surname is He, my grandfather’s name was He Qi, my father’s name was He Ba, and it was only natural that my name would be He Jiu when my family lineage descended to me. Do you think my family is odd?
[There was this one time when I returned to my old home to pray to my ancestors, I discovered a book that was related to Feng Shui. Part of the cover was ripped by someone so I have no clue what the actual title was.
[Being me back then, since I was overwhelmed by curiosity and being extremely playful, I had decided to skim over a few pages. It was just a result of my own curious and playful nature.
[And it was all because of my curious and playful nature that the entirety of my following year brought me plenty of misfortune. There were even a few incidents where I had barely escaped death. Black magic from Europe, the curses of Southeast Asia, Voodoo, Curses, Cursed Talisman… I encountered all of it in the span of that entire year. The first incident that had happened to me was the Cursed Talisman of Southeast Asia.
[This time was the worst and deadliest encounter as I had almost perished twice.
[The cause of it was a female college student. I no longer have any recollection of her name.
[This student had just returned from her trip to Southeast Asia with a few of her friends. She had a talisman tattoo done on her chest. If her summer clothes were slightly lowered, it would not be difficult to spot them. It was common for young people to seek thrill and adventure so it isn’t a problem to get a tattoo.
[Since it was only a tattoo of a talisman. On top of that, according to what the natives claimed, getting one would have the ability to ward off evil and unfortunate accidents. The natives had also claimed getting one would also bring good luck amongst other effects.
[Everyone assumed it was only a normal tattoo, nothing else. Therefore they paid no mind to it, but it was all due to that ignorance which had caused the following terrifying incident.
[It was only until much later that the truth surfaced. After everyone found out about the unbelievable truth, chills shot down their spines. Men knew about the horrors of ghosts and ghosts knew about the evil of men. Sometimes, men’s intentions would be more terrifying than ghosts.
[I shall now explain in detail why this single tattooed talisman nearly cost me my life twice…]
There was not a single person in the library at night. The rows of seats were all empty.
Wei Youran was the only person on the entire third floor of the library. She was standing alone at a corner by the wall. Behind her was a window and the only thing she could see out of it was a veil of darkness. The moonlight was not visible through it. It was almost as if the darkness itself was peeking through the window to look into the room.
There were not many people left in the library at night. Moreover, it was an old library. The paint was chipping away from the wall due to age, and there were marks and scrapes on the legs of the wooden tables. As night arrived, the entire library seemed to fall into a peculiar tense silence, as if someone had wandered into a sealed off world in the spiritual realm, forming a partition to the outside world.
Officer Wei was currently dressed in her casual clothes. She was bold enough to sit alone leisurely while she read an online novel on her phone. She was the only person on the third floor of this library.
Beside her was an untouched book which had been opened to its first page.
Thus, second by second, minute by minute, time slipped by.
19:30…20:00…20:30…20:50… With a blink of an eye, it was almost 21:00—the closing time of this library.
At that moment, she had put her phone down and began scraping against a piece of paper with the tip of her pencil. This was a notebook with a leather cover.
The handwriting on the notebook was neat and tidy. It recorded her everyday schedule.
Sixth of April,
The seventh day of baiting,
Location: The Old Section in the 3rd Building of Yuxiu District Library
Reading: ‘Cursed Master’
18:32-20:50, everything is completely normal.
…
As she flipped through the earlier pages dated 5th April,
The sixth day of baiting,
Reading: ‘Incident of the Feng Shui Coffin’
19:07-20:50, everything was completely normal.
…
Flipping through the previous records, for seven whole days, there was the ‘Cursed Master’ on the fifth, ‘Incident of the Feng Shui Coffin’ on the fourth, ‘Corpse Detective’ on the third, and two words were written on the second: Emergency Operation, and the ‘Taboo of the Living’ on the first….
Besides two days that were simply labeled as emergency operations, the remaining five days had recorded the titles of the odd novels.
When she flipped to the records of her first day, it was the reading lists made by Fang Zheng.
This meant it was the second day after Fang Zheng had made any records in the police station.
On the day of the second of April, the emergency operation was during the explosion that happened in the coffer box. Fang Zheng returned home at around 11 pm. He met Wei Youran on that day.
At 20:55, Wei Youran proceeded to move her chair back and started packing away her belongings. She had also placed the book back onto the shelf.
When she had left the library it was exactly 21:00 as the library behind her closed.
…
It was almost after 21:00 when Fang Zheng strolled back near the small town. He glanced into the pharmacy as he walked by the main door.
Speaking of which, he had not run into Mr. Yang, who was also Little Xue’s father, for a few days now.
Suddenly!
Without warning!
He had acquired an additional Gray Qi.
Fang Zheng was stunned as he began to follow the trail and stared deeply into the Hall of Four Season Pharmacy. He noticed a man in a white lab coat prescribing some medicine to a middle-aged man.
Those flirtatious eyes were as if… He suddenly ran into an air-conditioned room in the middle of a dessert. A green light was seemingly shooting out of his eyes.
After Yang Feizhang had finished prescribing medicine for the flu, he suddenly felt a brisk wind graze him from the back. Achoo… He was unable to hold back his sneeze.
After he walked his patient out, he was met with Fang Zheng’s eyes staring at him.
He was startled!
Yang Feizhang said while still feeling slightly startled, “Oh it’s you. Fang Zheng. Do I have rice grains on my face, or do I have anything stuck between my teeth?”
After he said that, he rushed back to his glass display cabinet and brushed against his teeth with his tongue, but there was nothing there.
‘Mr. Yang! I didn’t expect you to be this kind of person!’
It seemed he tended to reject people close to him and was closer with other strangers. He was gathering intel to locate where exactly was the base of operations for the Supernatural Investigation Bureau in Zhou City.
