Gideon raised his hand and swept the documents on the table onto the floor, making a commotion in the office.
The secretary quickly knocked on the office door. “Yes, Mr. Carter?”
“Prepare the car.”
The secretary acknowledged the man and ran out of the office.
Nora was cleaning up when Gideon arrived back at the villa.
The moment she saw Gideon, she quickly walked over. “Welcome home, Sir. Madam is resting upstairs and the doctor came over to see her earlier. She has caught a cold, but ought to recover in a couple of days.”
Gideon took off his suit jacket as he went upstairs without paying attention to what Nora said.
He opened the bedroom door and pulled his tie to the side in annoyance. He walked up to the bedside and looked down at the woman’s sleeping face. He sneered coldly before throwing his suit jacket on the bed.
Since Freya was always a light sleeper, she woke up the moment she heard the noise.
She was briefly stunned when she turned her head and saw Gideon in the room. Shouldn’t he be at the office at this hour?
The woman’s voice sounded unmistakably weak. “Why are you back?”
Gideon leaned towards Freya and surrounded her with his intense scent. The woman’s face was flushed from the fever. Or perhaps it was something else…
Just as she was about to speak, the man said in a mocking tone, “Instead of seeing a doctor, you lie in bed and pretend to look weak.”
Freya’s eyelashes trembled before she said unhurriedly, “I have already seen the doctor and I have taken my meds before going to sleep, just like the doctor ordered. I am not pretending.”
Gideon looked at her inconceivably. “Are you arguing with me?”
Freya narrowed her eyes and her eyelashes covered her eyes as she thought. She finally said mildly, “Mr. Carter, why do you keep insulting me? All I did was speak the truth.”
She turned over with slight difficulty. “If that is all you have to say, please leave. I don’t feel well, so I need to rest.”
Gideon watched as the woman turned her back towards him. He stuck his hands into his pants’ pockets unhurriedly. No one knew what he was thinking.
Freya slept all the way until the afternoon. When she woke up, she felt famished.
She wanted to go downstairs to get some food, but she surprisingly saw Gideon sitting on the couch.
Gideon was gorgeous and he had a lofty distant aura. Freya’s heart skipped a beat and she could not help blushing just from looking at him. She walked distractedly and clenched her fists so tightly that her nails were digging into her palms.
Freya did not expect the man to take the initiative to speak. “Are you awake?”
She pursed her lips and said softly, “Yes.”
“Why did you have a fever?”
“I caught a fever because I was drenched by cold water last night.”
Gideon laughed gently. He said in disdain, “That was one lousy excuse. The temperature in Ocean City was 78 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday. Your tasteful luxury wedding was held at a white church. How could you have gotten drenched? In your dreams, maybe?”
Freya lowered her head. She reckoned he had forgotten what he had done last night.
She did not bother explaining. Based on her limited interaction with the man, she knew he would say she was lying even if she tried explaining.
“Why ask if you won’t believe me?”
The moment she finished her sentence, she turned and headed towards the kitchen for some food. She was so hungry she could not be bothered to deal with the man.
However, someone suddenly grabbed her wrist roughly. Freya felt very uncomfortable. “Ow. What do you want?”
When Freya looked up at Gideon, she finally noticed how vicious his eyes looked. He spoke as though he wanted to eat her alive. “I am warning you. Don’t try to win my sympathy with these tasteless stunts. Even if you die in this villa, I won’t care.”
