Hush Now, Saintess! - Chapter 24
Chapter 24

Victor sat down, curt as he nodded.
With a smile, I made an internal vow.
‘I’ll score with you somehow so you’ll hate me less later.’
Since he was on the female lead’s side, this meant that he’s the enemy of the villainess.
There’s no point in actively turning a man like him into my enemy.
For the sake of improving our ill-fated relationship, I’d have to start with the beginning so that it never comes to that at all.
‘Besides that, being on good terms with Victor will be effective with my intent to offer donations. It’s good for building up my reputation after all.’
This guy’s a profitable connection in many ways.
As my mind worked double time, Victor opened the book in his hands.
“Well then, let’s start our class.”
“Yes, Teacher. I’m a student who still has many shortcomings, but I look forward to learning from you a lot.”
And so, under the guise of a diligent student learning under this teacher, I answered politely.
This was how our class started.
But, a few minutes later…
Contrary to my determination when it came to leaving a good image, my eyes were just.
Completely blank.
‘Ah, this is too hard. I can’t understand a single thing you’re saying.’
I thought I studied well enough by myself at the library, but now that I was in the middle of a formal class, everything felt so new.
I really didn’t know a single thing.
Even if I tried to get some help through peeking at Roella’s knowledge, it’s not an easy thing to do because she had only a few memories left in me.
‘I don’t think any of them are gonna be helpful here.’
And while I constantly tried to wrack my brain in agony—
“Your Ladyship.”
Victor called my attention, accompanied with the resounding snap of the 〈 Advanced Theology 〉 book in his hands as he closed it.
“T-Teacher?”
My mouth was so dry that I couldn’t help but gulp.
Without answering back, Victor rose from his seat and disappeared behind a bookshelf.
Then, as I was fidgeting in my own seat and wondering what he was up to, Victor came back with another book.
What’s in his hands when he came back was…
The first volume of 〈 Basic Theology For Children 〉.
…Heck, dang it.
Ha, this is so embarrassing.
“Do you know about the Empire’s history?”
He cracked the book open as I nodded timidly in response to his question.
The large, very cute paintings helped me understand the concepts better, but at the same time, they made me feel even more ashamed.
But what could I do, huh.
This is my level right now.
“Yes. Just roughly. When the world fell into chaos, God appeared and saved the world, right?”
“Literally rou… Yes, Your Ladyship. You know it well.”
I averted my gaze.
I mean, I warned you that I only know it roughly.
“It’s our first class, so I’ll explain it briefly.”
“Yes! I’ll remember it this time.”
At this point, I wouldn’t begrudge him for sighing out in frustration. But not once did Victor’s expression change.
As expected of the youngest successor of the high priest.
Instead of getting angry at me, he continued to the lesson and explained things step by step from the start.
“When the world was created, and when the humans were born into the world, there was a balance between good and evil.”
“Yes.”
“However, at some point, the God of Evil, ‘Arhopev’, intervened in the human realm, and evil itself began to cross the rightful line. As the balance of the world was in peril, chaos soon came. The world at that time was like a living hell.”
“Hell?”
“Yes, hell. Rifts opened up, and from there, impious things came out and disturbed the world. Humans started to doubt and distrust each other, and they either died or got killed.”
Then, the next part of it:
In the midst of this terrible chaos, Luqera descended from the heavens and saved the humans.
Luqera pitied the humans and helped them.
Body and soul. Light and darkness.
Luqera divided these four things and sealed them in the east, west, north and south of the empire. And finally, the god sealed Arhopev’s heart and themself¹ as well.
Indeed, God made such a sacrifice for the sake of peace in the world.
As I was working hard to jot down notes, I raised my head and asked a question.
“By the way, you mentioned that those four things were sealed in the east, west, north and south of the Empire.”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Then what about the heart? Where is the heart sealed?”
Asked a question, the teacher remained silent for a moment.
I started to doubt myself and think that I might’ve asked something useless, but in the end, I got an answer.
“No one knows exactly where the heart is. Luqera hid it so that it wouldn’t fall into the hands of someone who intends to abuse its power. Although, approximately, it’s believed to be in the capital.”
“Because the capital is the center of the Empire?”
“That’s right. And, at the very center of the capital is where the Imperial Family resides.”
The teacher adjusted his glasses once as he continued explaining.
“Though there is a connection to the God of Evil’s heart, the Imperial Family is called the benevolent guardians. From generation to generation, they shall receive God’s blessing, and so they have a duty to protect the seal that keeps the God of Evil at bay. Therefore, they are a little different from normal people.”
¹ I’m not actually sure about Luqera’s gender since it wasn’t specified in the original text, so I left it ambiguous.
