- Chapter 49 - I Accidentally Saved The Male Lead’s Brother Chapter 49
Ripe cherry tomatoes. Theo, who was gazing in the field, saw the tomatoes, and shouted.
“Sister! An adult tomato!”
Charlotte, looking at where the child was pointing, managed to find a ripe tomato. It was a cherry tomato the size of a baby finger.
Cherry tomatoes were picked and cleaned. Theo who was watching her slowly opened his mouth as if he was possessed.
Charlotte pushed the cherry tomatoes into the baby’s mouth. Theo’s cheeks bulged out like a hamster that had piled sunflower seeds in its mouth.
Every time he opens his mouth, tomato juice seeps between his lips.
“Hm.”
Theo, who hates vegetables, didn’t like tomatoes either. However, it was delicious because it was a tomato he had raised himself. So instead of spitting out the tomatoes, he chewed them tightly and swallowed them.
Are we looking for tomatoes again?
Theo nodded and then bowed his head to get ready to look for the tomatoes. After a while, he was able to find more ripe tomatoes.
With Charlotte’s help, he picked the tomatoes, then rubbed them into his clothes just as she had done and ate them. Then he put it in her mouth.
“Is it delicious ?”
“Yes, it tastes better because it was Theo who fed it to me.”
Excited by the compliment, Theo let out an incomprehensible shriek and set out to find more tomatoes.
Charlotte cunningly turned Theo’s body toward the red tomato .
One two three four . The child’s fist was busy with tomatoes.
He wanted to pick more, but his hands were full, and he couldn’t pick more. He decided to save the remaining tomatoes for the next time.
“Shall we go now?”
Now it’s time for Charlotte to take Theo, whose blushing hasn’t faded yet. Theo suddenly cried as he thought of whom to give the tomatoes.
“Huh? Brother!”
Charlotte thought Theo was excited to give Carcel the tomatoes. Not to mention that Carcel could not be in the palace at this hour.
But when Charlotte turned her head in the direction Theo was looking at, she found Carcel standing there, in a shirt and light pants.
He appeared without moving, he was standing at the entrance staring quietly like everyone else without moving.
‘Why is he standing there ?’
At first, she thought he didn’t want to bother playing Theo. But even when Theo waved at him, he didn’t move.
Perhaps feeling weird, Theo puffed out his cheeks and tilted his head.
“Huh?”
Charlotte whispered gently in Theo’s ear.
“Theo, would you like to go give your brother some tomatoes?”
“Yes!”
Charlotte handed the boy three tomatoes, and he rubbed them on his clothes. He grabbed the clean tomatoes and headed toward Carcel.
Only after Theo approached did Carcel move and catch him.
“Brother!”
“…….”
“Theo planted this!”
Theo Carcel proudly handed the tomatoes. But instead of taking the tomatoes from him, he put his forehead on Theo’s and closed his eyes gently.
It was very unfortunate. Even though he was far away from him and his expressions could not be seen, Charlotte felt as if he was barely holding back his tears.
There is no reason to do that, so why did you think of this?
Carcel took a deep breath and rested his forehead on Theo’s.
Like trying to smell the baby, or trying to feel that Theo is alive and breathing in front of him.
It looked scared and Charlotte couldn’t go to them.
She was thinking of giving them some time to feel each other’s warmth.
However, Theo seems to have a different idea. The child urged the silent Carlisle to speak because he felt the atmosphere was unfamiliar.
“Brother?”
At that moment, Carcel let out a breath that was holding him back.
“Yes, good job.”
Theo who was excited by the compliment pointed to Charlotte.
“There’s more, come close to Sister!”
Carcel walked towards Charlotte at the child’s request.
A sudden wind blew, and Charlotte’s hair fluttered, her eyes closed. When she opened her eyes again, Carcel was right in front of her.
I looked at him at a high angle because he was taller than her. Charlotte smiled while adjusting her hair.
“You came early today?”
“I’d like to have dinner with Theo.”
His voice in response sounded somewhat damp. He had the same usual voice, but it felt like that.
“That’s cool, Theo would love this, right?”
Theo cried as if he was listening to Charlotte’s words.
“Theo loves it!”
The child shook his legs back and forth. This is what happens when he feels his best.
“Today Theo asked me to make food with freshly cut tomatoes. I was thinking of ordering chicken breast with tomato sauce, is that ok?”
“I don’t have a special food that I prefer.”
“Okay. Theo, since your brother is here, shall we pick more tomatoes? Would you like to see if there are more adult tomatoes?”
“Yes!”
Theo waved his legs and asked Carcel to bring him down. When he got down, he quickly headed for the field.
Soon, a cheerful voice sounded from him, “There’s an adult tomato here!” .
“He’s not very good at picking tomatoes by himself yet, I’ll help him.”
That was when Charlotte tried to get close to Theo and put her hair behind her ear. Carcel reached out his right hand and trimmed her hair that was fluttering with the wind.
“Ah ….”
Charlotte turned her head and looked at Carcel. She thought he was just arranging her hair but the hand that was holding her hair didn’t let go.
“… Duke?”
When she called him he didn’t answer, he just kept staring at her.
Since I met Carcel, there have been several instances where she has made eye contact with him like that without speaking.
His words were very few, and there were times when he would look at people calmly enough to say that he would rather speak with his eyes than with words.
Each time, Charlotte guessed his thoughts and continued the conversation.
But this time she couldn’t read what he was thinking, because he had an expression she had never seen before.
It was like….
Charlotte quickly denied the thoughts she had, but she couldn’t keep her cheeks from burning.
In the end, she lowered her head slightly to avoid his gaze that was even hotter than the rays of the sun shining above her head.
Even then, he hadn’t taken his gaze off her face.
***
Carcel came home early for the first time since returning to the capital with Charlotte.
It was because of what Charlotte said a few days ago.
-Theo wants to see the Duke often.
Theo and Charlotte may not know this, but he visits Theo’s room every night.
He couldn’t wake the sleeping child, so he just sat next to him on the bed to watch him sleep.
He used to ask Robert how Theo was doing every day, so he was not ignorant of how the boy was doing every day.
He said he followed Charlotte well.
He said he liked going to the field that Charlotte created these days. Maybe it’s thanks to Charlotte, he said his mana is stable and there is no fever.
He looks fine. Now, all that was left was to finish the remaining work in the capital and leave for the duchy.
In the duchy of Heinst, Theo can play safely.
If he went to the duchy, he thought he could spend more time with Theo, so I guess he’d be fine for now.
Carcel had no idea the child would miss him until he heard Charlotte’s words.
So he came home early to spend more time with Theo. Also, having dinner with Charlotte also seemed to be a good idea.
“Where’s Theo?”
Carcel unbuttoned his cuff links and asked Robert. This was because Theo who had been running excitedly every time his brother came back wasn’t anywhere here.
“The master is in the garden with Miss Lannia.”
As if to confirm those words, the rumbling sound of a child’s laughter streamed through the window.
Then he heard Charlotte’s laugh, she was lower than Theo but sweet as a child.
Charlotte, who had always smiled politely before Carcel, smiled like a child before Theo.
Carcel put on his light clothes and went to the garden. Charlotte and Theo were feeding each other tomatoes and laughing in front of the field.
“Is it delicious ?”
“Yes, it tastes better because Theo gave it to me.”
Blonde hair in similar colors shimmers in the sunlight.
Carcel paused away so as not to disturb them. But they both seemed to notice his presence, so Theo stopped running.
He looked at the movements of the two of them and immersed himself in thought.
When was the last time you heard carefree laughter in this garden?
Perhaps that was before his mother’s death.
She was sitting in the garden holding Theo, who can’t walk, and talking about one thing or the other.
Today, the sunlight is beautiful, the flowers are fragrant, the refreshments are delicious, and so on. It was a daily story, nothing special.
However, Theo muttered something incomprehensible as if he scorned his admiration. He couldn’t understand what he was saying, but Theo’s plump cheeks were filled with happiness.
Or when his mother Theo kissed on the cheek and when he was screaming and laughing like now.
Carcel loved this frivolous everyday life, so split the day and partake of afternoon refreshments.
He didn’t do anything special but just got to see the daily life of his mother and Theo.
Every time he saw them laughing, he felt the left part of his chest getting warm.
