Chapter 26: The Grim Reaper, Scythe Weasel
“Scythe Weasel…”
He Mu ran wildly while recalling the information about the Scythe Weasel recorded in Monster Illustrations.
Scythe Weasel. Small in size, huge strength, and claws resemble scythes. It is agile, extremely aggressive with deadly power, and moves swiftly in the darkness at night. No obvious weaknesses.
Ordinary people who encounter a Scythe Weasel should immediately hide in a safe room.
This was the brief introduction to the Scythe Weasel on the Monster Illustrations.
The Monster Illustrations was previously a compulsory subject for students, but was later removed as there were too many monsters recorded and the amount of data was too large.
Thereafter, Monster Illustrations was replaced by a book called “Complete Dangerous City Monsters”.
The Complete Dangerous City Monsters contained monsters that were often found in the city and killed humans. It left out the powerful and rare giant monsters, as well as other monsters that appeared less than 10 times in total.
The Complete Dangerous City Monsters introduced a variety of methods to deal with monsters for the ordinary people and Red Mist Fighters.
There was only one way to deal with a Scythe Weasel for an ordinary person, and that was to hide in a safe room.
Because of that, the Scythe Weasel was in the top 20 of the book in terms of danger.
As for the “safe room”, it was a new concept after the recent decade of urban stability.
Every house in slightly newer districts would have a safe room.
The safe room was only one to two square meters. Although it was a room, it was independent of the entire housing structure. The outer layer was reinforced concrete like the other rooms, while in the middle was a thick alloy reinforced layer like an iron box. The innermost layer was soft plastic.
The safe room was usually dark with only a few air vents. A normal family would stock some food and water in it.
Monsters with lower than 30 combat power basically couldn’t break through the protection of the safe room.
Even if one encountered giant monsters that caused the collapse of the house, hiding in the safe room would still guarantee a very high survival rate.
And some of the more upscale districts were equipped with several “safe houses”.
The safe house was equivalent to a double-sized safe room, distributed in all corners of the community. If one encountered monsters and couldn’t get home in time, one could hide in a safe house.
It was said that in large cities, safe houses were distributed throughout the entire city, almost as dense as public toilets.
However, Nancheng didn’t have the required capital because almost all the big mountains in this world were inhabited by monsters. The cost of trying to mine was extremely high.
…
Lushu District was three kilometers away from the Red Mist Alliance. Right now, it was late at night. During the day, those students and teachers returned to their respective residences early. At the moment, they weren’t within the vicinity of the Red Mist Alliance.
Putting aside these strong people, a few of the Red Mist Fighters who lived near the Red Mist Alliance had reached 50 combat power.
That was why He Mu was already considered a top expert in this vicinity.
The distance of three kilometers was nothing for him. Nowadays, he ran wildly with all his might, with speed not much inferior to a car’s.
So in a few minutes, he arrived near Lushu District.
Lushu District had a great environment and was considered decent around the Red Mist Alliance.
Most of the people living in this district were young couples who worked in the industrial area and had saved some money and weren’t willing to live in a dormitory.
He Mu had considered this place when renting a house, but the occupancy rate was too high, and most of them were ordinary people with regular work and rest schedules.
On the contrary, he had to go out every night, and would make too much noise. That was why he eventually vetoed this place.
…
Clang!
Not far away came a sound like the clash of gold and iron. It resounded particularly clear in this silent dark night.
He Mu’s expression changed.
Needless to think, this must be the sound of Wei Lan brawling with the Scythe Weasel.
He Mu couldn’t care less about the fence or railing as he jumped over them easily, before running straight to the source of the clamors.
Clang!
Clang!
One after another, the sound of clashes indicated that the battle nearby was very intense.
When He Mu arrived nearby, he finally saw the target of this mission, the Scythe Weasel.
The description was similar to that in Monster Illustrations. It was about half a man’s size, had thick and strong lower limbs, a small head, and eyes glinting a green radiance.
At that moment, this Scythe Weasel was on the balcony on the sixth floor of a building, looking down intently.
The combat power of the Scythe Weasel of this size was usually between 20 and 25. But because of its special characteristics, its combat power was far beyond normal monsters with 20 combat power.
Without waiting for He Mu to make a move, the Scythe Weasel leapt down from the balcony!
Its speed was amazing! As quick as lightning!
Almost in an instant, it zoomed to the corner of the walls downstairs.
And there, the three Wei siblings had gathered, holding their respective weapons and trembling slightly as they looked up.
At that moment, the three of them no longer looked as bold as before. They behaved like weak and helpless cornered beasts with only some determination.
Seeing the Scythe Weasel raising both claws to attack, Wei Lan stomped the ground and lifted her dagger!
Clang!
That sound of gold and iron colliding echoed again!
Under the terrifying force, Wei Lan’s legs went limp and she fell to her knees. The dagger fell out of her hand in an instant.
He Mu clearly saw that Wei Lan’s mouth had been clawed, and blood kept flowing down.
Fortunately, she blocked the attack and wasn’t cut in half by the Scythe Weasel.
The Scythe Weasel’s strike failed to deal a fatal blow. Using the force of the recoil, it leaped into the air and adjusted its trajectory using its tail. In an instant, it landed on the balcony on the fourth floor, and bent its two hind limbs slightly, accumulating strength like a spring.
Its two scythe-like claws slightly interlocked, grinding out a high-pitched screech that left one’s teeth aching.
On the other side, Wei Lan’s two younger brothers, Wei Gang and Wei Qiang, hurriedly shielded Wei Lan from in front of her and raised their weapons, ready to resist the next blow.
Perhaps the reason why the three of them had been able to hold out until now was that they were using this method of taking turns to resist the attacks.
But judging from their ripped mouths and fearful expressions, maybe they wouldn’t be able to take the next blow.
…
Everything happened as quick as a lightning, and He Mu hadn’t stopped.
Seeing that there was still a piece of lawn in the middle, he jumped over in two steps, and a second later, he shielded the three Wei siblings from the front.
“Looks like I made it in time, how are you guys holding up?”
He Mu stared at the Scythe Weasel above and said softly.
When Wei Lan first saw He Mu’s back, she was confused. However, she recalled who he was after recognizing the familiar white short sleeves shirt.
Isn’t this the very smart poor boy from before?
Good grief. Last time he at least wore a black training uniform for the mission, and today, he came over in just a short sleeve shirt.
The key is that from the logo on the short sleeves shirt, it seems to be the same style as the previous short sleeves shirt.
“He Mu! What the f*ck are you doing here! This guy has a combat power of over 20! Did you come empty-handed to let it slice you like a fruit?”
Wei Lan cursed furiously, albeit her voice shivering a bit.
One would inevitably die an extremely miserable death being slashed into pieces by the Scythe Weasel. But despite that, at least one would die protecting ordinary people, which more or less gave them a sense of heroism.
But as soon as Wei Lan saw the young He Mu, the sense of heroism in her disappeared without a trace.
After all, she would be responsible for causing the death of an innocent young man. How could she still feel heroic?
Life was so difficult. She couldn’t even die with a little peace of mind.
“Don’t worry, I can deal with the Scythe Weasel. Your situation is urgent, and there was no time for me to prepare.”
He Mu’s tone was calm. He bent his legs slightly, ready to meet the Scythe Weasel’s speedy strike.
Seeing He Mu’s serious attitude, Wei Lan was more or less touched. She suddenly thought of something, turned to the two brothers next to her, and scolded: “What are you waiting for? Hurry up and give him a weapon!”
Wei Gang was the first to react, immediately handing the thick-backed machete in his hand to He Mu.
At that very moment when Wei Gang handed over the weapon, the Scythe Weasel on the balcony had a glint of green radiance in its eyes. With a leap, it jumped to the edge of the rooftop on the ninth floor!
It was quite cautious against this new enemy.
In the darkness of the night, He Mu received the thick-backed machete, and his gaze never left the Scythe Weasel from the beginning.
But now it was late at night. The Scythe Weasel was located in a very high position. He could only see the pair of icy-cold green eyes, and the bloody scythes under the blood moon.
It looked just like the Grim Reaper in this darkness.
Cold and cruel.
