“Yan Susu, you shameless b*tch! I’m going to kill you!”
The tightly-shut door to the room was violently flung open, and a man wielding a gleaming knife charged into the room like the Angel of Death, red-hot fury radiating from in his eyes.
He raised his hand and pointed the knife downwards. Suddenly, fresh blood painted the entire room bright red.
“Ah…!” Yan Susu screamed as her intense fear shocked her awake.
It was the same nightmare that had been haunting her for the past six years!
Who was that man? Why did he do what he did? Was this dream related to the block of memory that she had lost…?
“Miss, we’re here,” the driver announced. As he looked at his passenger, who had been acting strangely, he said, “You don’t look well. Shall I take you to the hospital?”
“No need, thank you,” Yan Susu said as she paid her fare. She trudged wearily up the stairs, feeling dizzy from the severe cold that had been plaguing her for days.
As she stopped at the entrance to her place, she heard the sounds of a woman coming from within.
Holding the keys tightly in her hand, with her long lashes gently downcast, she stepped over the clothes strewn all across the floor, towards the bedroom. The door had been left slightly ajar.
As suspected, she saw her fiancé and some woman…
Noticing her presence, Ling Xiusi got up nonchalantly and said, “You’re back.”
“Yep.” Yan Susu kept her eyes lowered and did not look at him.
In the past six years, he had moved from one woman to another as quickly as he changed his clothes, often bringing them to her rented apartment and, when it suited him, doing it in front of her…
The one exception to his ways was that he had never touched her!
Noticing her submissive attitude, Ling Xiusi naturally seized the opportunity and gave her an order. “I’m hungry. Fix me something to eat!”
“Si, is she your housemaid?” asked the other woman as she draped herself over his shoulders coquettishly. She cast her eyes critically at Yan Susu, who stood there with her head lowered, looking very much like a human punching bag.
Irritated, Ling Xiusi shrugged her off, saying, “You can scram now!”
Shocked, the woman’s eyes opened wide as she protested, “Si…”
“Get lost!”
Seemingly unfazed by what was going on, Yan Susu walked silently into the kitchen to cook.
Cigarette in hand, Ling Xiusi leaned against the doorway to the kitchen, , looking at her slender back, and said, “Come with me to an event tomorrow afternoon.”
Yan Susu froze and pleaded, “I don’t feel well, can we not…”
“No way. I have to close this deal.”
Without trying to resist further, Yan Susu lowered her eyes and said, “OK.”
Over the past six years, Ling Xiusi had taken her to many events, where he had looked on without a care as she was made to drink copious amounts of alcohol and groped by other men. This was his way of getting back at her for the betrayal.
“Ling Xiusi, let’s split up.”
“Not on your life!” Ling Xiusi pinched her chin and looked at her coldly. “You left me at the altar six years ago, making the Ling family a laughingstock, and now, you want to betray me again?”
“I didn’t…” Yan Susu started to explain frantically.
She had been so desperately in love with Ling Xiusi that she’d even dreamed of marrying him in her sleep, so why would she have left him at the altar?
It must have been the doing of her wicked stepmother and stepsister. However, without a shred of proof, how could she even try to convince Ling Xiusi?
Oblivious to her words, Ling Xiusi continued, “I refused to listen to what my family was telling me; I searched everywhere for you, but what did you do? You disappeared for a few months and re-appeared only after having given birth to someone else’s child.
“Yan Susu, in your eyes, am I just an idiot that you can manipulate? Someone that you can use and discard at your leisure?”
“No, you have to believe me…”
“Believe you? I lost all trust in you the moment you left me at the altar!” Ling Xiusi’s hold on her face tightened, as though there was nothing he wanted more than to crush that delicate chin of hers.
She had betrayed him, and now she had the audacity to ask him to believe her. How shameless could this woman get?
“Yan Susu, what you have become really disgusts me. Just touching you makes me feel dirty!”
This utterance made Yan Susu give up her protest. Pale-faced and with her eyes shut, she said, “If that’s the case, then let me go. I will never appear in your presence again, so you’ll have no cause to feel nauseated…”
She felt so stupid. It had been six years. If Ling Xiusi had wanted to believe her, he would have done so long ago!
“Don’t even think about it! I want to keep you by my side so that I can torture you day and night to make you pay for your betrayal! You can forget about getting away from me, ever, for the rest of your life!” Ling Xiusi roared at her like a lion on a rampage, shoving her away violently before he slammed the door and stormed out.
Hearing the door slam shut, Yan Susu’s tears flowed uncontrollably.
This was a man who had loved her to the core, the fiancé who had sworn to love her and spoil her for her entire life. How had he become something like this?
What actually happened six years ago?
She had a clear memory of waiting happily in the bridal suite, ready to be married. Why had she woken up in the hospital, only to be told by the doctor that she had given birth?
Who was the man that had impregnated her? Was it the man in her dreams? Where was the child now?
That traffic accident…what had she forgotten?
…
For six years, these questions had haunted her continuously, but she could not find anyone to give her the answers, only a fiancé who tortured her perpetually in vengeance.
