- Chapter 138 - I Am The Commander Of The Second Male Lead’s Knights Chapter 138
A building that was created by man and offered to the gods.
Dozens of columns, built of snow-white marble, supported the building side by side. The temple located in the capital was not the main temple, but it was as splendid as it was.
Passing through the tall pillars for visitors and entering the inside, there were buildings for the accommodation of the priests.
In one of those buildings, the room of the head of the Templars, a candle was still lit.
Edgar knelt down at the prayer table and prayed.
The desk made for prayer was a simple table consisting of support for kneeling, a place for raising the elbow, a candlestick, and support for placing the scriptures.
His prayers had already entered the third year.
At that time, the candle fluttered loudly and Edgar raised his head. Only the candles on the prayer table danced to and fro in the windless room.
Looking at it as he was possessed, the light suddenly went out. As the candles went out smoke filled the dark room. Edgar drew a cross sign to finish his prayer, got up from his seat walking towards the window.
There was a person sitting on the window sill. When their eyes met, she grinned and pointed her hand at the window clasp. As he released the latch, Nina leaned lightly over the window sill and said.
“One more is coming.”
Edgar frowned, and a neatly dressed gentleman appeared out of the dark. Just by looking at the silver decorative cane, he could tell who it was.
“Luve -.”
“Shh.”
Nina stopped him, and Edgar shut his mouth. When Adrian clicked the cane he was carrying, the window closed again.
A long shadow flickered. Edgar seemed to understand why the spirits were called ominous beings in the temple.
When Nina chanted in a small voice with The North Wind, the room became quiet with no sound coming from outside.
“Now we can speak comfortably. It’s nice to see you again.”
“I didn’t know you would drag in a tail.”
“What do you mean tail? He’s definitely my head.”
Edgar looked at the Duke of Luverne. It’s hard to trust someone who had a questionable smile.
“So you’re going to help me?” (Edgar)
Edgar blatantly ignored the Duke and spoke to Nina.
“Yes. I can’t say I will with ‘anything’, but as far as possible. The enemy of your enemy is a comrade, right?”
“You seem to know who my enemy is.”
Edgar showed his teeth. He grabbed Nina by the neck and lifted her up.
“Where is the guarantee that you are not my enemy?”
Nina was unbelievably lifted with ease. She was lighter than he thought, and she went up so fast that Edgar was surprised. In the next moment, Edgar felt his right foot being sucked inside the floor like it was above the mud.
“!!”
When he reflexively looked down, pitch-black darkness swung like a swamp and swallowed his feet.
A soft voice was heard.
“Would you mind letting my knight go?”
“Oh, Master, you are overprotective.”
“It’s no use talking with me while hanging by the collar.”
Edgar somehow lost his strength and let her go, Nina landed safely on the floor. Edgar pulled his feet out, and this time he was able to get out of the dark with ease. The floor returned to normal.
Nina trimmed her neck.
“I’ll cut you some slack once. But I won’t let you go twice.”
Nina spoke and she looked at Edgar.
“I did an investigation into the temple orphanage.”
“What do you know about the temple orphanage?”
“I know the kidnapping took place at the orphanage.”
“And?”
“I think only Fiona was moved to somewhere else.”
Edgar’s eyes didn’t even blink.
“Therefore?”
“What if I say we have Fiona?”
“!!”
At the moment, he reached out again and tried to grab her by the collar, but Nina was faster.
Tak.
Nina grabbed his arm.
“I told you not to do it twice.”
Nina slowly lowered his arm.
‘What strength…’
Although he was giving strength enough to make his arm tremble, her slender arm lowered his with no difficulty. Edgar shook his arm, and Nina let go. Tomorrow he will see purple bruises in the shape of her hands.
“You say you have Fiona.”
Edgar stood up and looked at them both as a wounded beast roaring at his enemies.
He was like a bloody hound, rebelling, knowing that he would still stand on the pitch even after doing so. But soon that attitude faded in an instant. He swallowed his breath and asked as if swallowing all the pain inside him.
“What do you want from me?”
For a moment, Adrian said, “Wow.” and let out a small laugh. Nina turned to him.
“Excuse me, young master.”
“Certainly. You are excused.”
Nina had no hat but pretended to take one out by the brim and curtsy to Adrian.
“What is so funny?”
Edgar asked in a gloomy voice. Even though he knew that he was being ridiculed, the meanness of it was unbearable. It was the lowliness of tying up their opponent’s hands and feet and laughing at the situation.
Adrian said with an elegant smile, as if in the middle of a ballroom.
“No, I wonder if all temple knights are that naive. Or is it only you? You showed your weaknesses so easily that I wondered if it was a trap.”
It was a soft voice.
“Fiona is not cheap enough for me to measure each of those things.”
A different kind of smile appeared on Adrian’s face at Edgar’s words.
“Yes, that’s right. I apologize again. If it’s really valuable, it’s better to hide it well. Because you don’t have the strength to protect that precious thing.”
It was a long piece of sarcasm well hidden in the form of advice.
Edgar stared at him, ignored him, and looked at Nina, apologizing.
“I was rude earlier.”
“No, I also think I would be surprised to hear something like that out of the blue. But I thought it would be better to inform you sooner.”
“What do you want from me?”
“What I’m curious about is why Fiona has become like that, and what has happened so far?”
It was as if she knew Fiona well, so Edgar looked at Nina. Noticing that gaze, she smiled.
“We don’t know each other personally. But I have no intention of harming Fiona. We also rescued the orphans who were with her and moved them to a safe place.”
“Where is Fiona?”
“If you have the courage, come and see.”
Nina said as she put her hand on her waist. Edgar’s eyes widened. He hesitated for a moment, then opened his mouth.
“You can hear the story from Fiona. Is Fiona okay?”
Nina groaned and tilted her head. He asked hastily.
“Is she unwell? Or, if not…….”
“It’s bad. She was about to die. Our doctor said we could save her. Still, wouldn’t you need someone close to you anyway?”
Her voice had no dark corners, it was sincere.
Oddly enough, Nina’s words were openly received by him, who thought there was no place he could trust and no answer to his worries.
She may be someone he can trust.
Maybe.
After a few words, the word ‘maybe’ disappeared, leaving only a bizarre trust.
Edgar bit his lip. He looked at Nina with dark eyes.
“I have work to do.”
“It’s here again.”
Why do people around me keep picking up the death flag?
“Never mind, just come to see her soon.”
Nina said so and walked over to the window. Edgar hurriedly asked.
“Is that all? Anything you want to hear from me or anything else……”
“What can I hear from someone who doesn’t want to do it?”
Edgar stood in his place as if he was stunned. He looked at Nina, and said,
“Would you mind passing this on to Fiona?”
He took the ring off his little finger. It was a signet ring proving that he was the head of a temple knight.
“I don’t want to.”
Nina answered immediately. Edgar looked at Nina in perplexity.
“If you want to give it to her, do it yourself. I don’t want to become a keepsake bearer.”
At the sharp remark, he clenched his fist, then smiled and held out the ring again.
“It’s not a keepsake. If you give this ring to Fiona you will know the answer.”
