I Became the Monster’s Bride - Chapter 148
Rescue, The Revealed Truth (8)
“Please…”
Lucy couldn’t resist her nervousness and bit her nails violently before she started nibbling on her lips.
Kergel had gone to rescue Roelin himself, so he would definitely come back with her. However, apart from that belief, she still couldn’t stop herself from getting nervous with all kinds of bad imaginations coming right into her head.
“I don’t think a third seizure has occurred just yet. Before that, His Majesty will certainly come back with the Empress. Yeah, I’m sure they will. I mean…”
Therefore, they would have to be thoroughly prepared in order to serve the Empress.
Lucy kept muttering as if she was brainwashing herself and soon, she brought her hand close to her mouth to bite her nails again.
“Ouch.”
Nevertheless, Lucy eventually came to her senses at the pain that she could feel from the tip of her own fingernails. Her hand, which had been so messed up until there were no more nails left to bite on, finally caught her eye.
She didn’t look like herself atl. If any of the ladies-in-waiting who worked under her did this, they would have been completely scolded already.
Lucy sighed and clutched her head with her hands because she felt pathetic as she had been so nervous without being able to control her emotions at any cost.
And it was just then. It eventually started to get noisy outside.
Lucy hurriedly turned to the noise from outside and left the tent.
It was already dark outside since it was not even dawn yet. At least, there had been some fires here and there, albeit they were only pushing out the darkness.
And amongst them, people gathered around the biggest fire there was.
In fact, that was where the uproar had originated from.
“Is His Majesty finally back?”
Lucy hastened while expecting to see someone standing tall right in the middle. But her steps soon stopped moving entirely.
Something was out of the ordinary.
If Kergel had saved Roelin and returned, this reaction would have never occurred at this moment.
Now, this reaction was just like……
“It’s a monster! A monster!”
“The Empress has been caught by a monster!”
“He—but the monster looks so much like His Majesty……”
Lucy’s ears were filled with the murmurs of many confused soldiers. Only then did Lucy finally see the current situation in more detail.
Each soldier was already surrounding a man along with a spear that pointed straight towards him. Moreover, they were on high alert in a state of all those tensions.
And the person whom they were surrounding……
“Oh, my God—Your Majesty! Your Majesty!”
Lucy had recognized Kergel. He had become a huge man who was covered in black fur, but not to the point where she couldn’t recognize that it was Kergel at all cost.
As Kergel’s nanny ever since childhood, she had been the one who raised him, so it was only natural—no matter how different he appeared.
‘Was he not able to control his power?’
When he was young, Kergel sometimes couldn’t control his power, so he would return to his original form as a wolf. It was a kind of ‘light accident’ that occurred at times since his body was still weak and young, despite the reality that it had such enormous power.
But not once did it happen again ever since he had grown into an adult. However, the fact that this transpired meant that Kergel had used his power right to its limit in order to save Roelin.
“Your Majesty!”
Lucy grabbed her skirt with a more urgent look and sprinted towards him. As she clutched onto the skirt, her undergarment had been exposed rather clearly, but there was no time to worry at all. Even if this could actually lead to a bigger setback. (T/N: please bear in mind that undergarments looked very similar to pants back in those times.)
“You can’t break the seal!”
It was said that the only person who could ever prevent it had been the companion, but the companion right now, Roelin herself, was not in a very good condition……
“Haa, Empress……”
Lucy’s face instantly turned pale when she saw Roelin who was already in Kergel’s arms.
Her worries about Kergel’s seal just then had completely disappeared in return.
It was because she could see that Roelin was leaning against his chest with such a bloodless face. In addition, she had black bruises all over her cheeks and a cut on her lips too.
“How dare they—to the Empress… Besides, what is wrong with her feet…?”
Lucy looked at Roelin with trembling eyes and opened her eyes even bigger when she saw her feet. This was definitely due to the fact that she must have suffered quite a big wound, judging from the condition of blood on her feet.
“……Lucy?”
At that moment, she could hear that Kergel was calling out. Lucy eventually came to her senses and turned her head before looking at him.
Kergel, who was hugging Roelin tightly, had slowly recognized Lucy as he opened his mouth.
“Yes, Your Majesty. This is Lucy. Can you recognize me?”
Lucy was worried about Roelin’s condition, but she still calmly spoke to Kergel. It was a question which she asked because she thought that he had not only changed his appearance, but completely lost his reason as well.
“Oh…… of course. There’s no way I wouldn’t recognize you.”
Kergel’s intensity began to abate a little. At the same time, he could hear whisperings almost from everywhere.
“That’s His Majesty?”
“Didn’t the head maid just refer to him as ‘Your Majesty’?”
“Is that really His Majesty? But why would His Majesty look just like that…?”
The soldiers exchanged those conversations with each other in questionable tones. At the same time, they started to withdraw their various weapons, including a spear that had been aiming at Kergel since earlier.
Although it was a situation that had been full of questions without understanding, it was still natural to step back once they confirmed through the head maid that he had really been the ‘Emperor’ himself.
Kergel said to Lucy as he turned to the tent where Roelin had stayed before while holding her—regardless of the gazes thrown towards him.
“Call the Doctor right now, Lucy.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
Lucy answered with her head down before she relayed the words again to the nearby knight. She thought that it would have been faster to send out a knight rather than to visit the Doctor himself.
Besides, she would have to do this and that before the Palace Doctor eventually arrived.
Lucy quickly followed Kergel and opened her mouth to the others once again. This was because she had to arrange some warm water and blankets quickly.
She saw that the knights and soldiers who had heard her instantly hurried while making their move before she then hastened again to follow Kergel closely.
