I Became the Monster’s Bride - Chapter 149
Rescue, The Revealed Truth (9)
Kergel felt warm as soon as he went into the tent. He could see that Lucy already had a fire ready on one side of the tent, perhaps because she had been paying a lot of attention.
It was a situation where Lucy hadn’t known when Roelin would return, no, she hadn’t even been sure if Roelin would ever be able to come back at all, but Kergel’s mind was relieved to see that she was still so attentive towards everything.
Apart from that, of course, Kergel’s actions were clearly urgent.
He softly laid Roelin on the cot. Roelin bit her lip in pain, whether it was actually due to poison or the wounds from all over her body, she instantly turned to the side.
No, both of them must have definitely been the cause of her pain.
“Haven’t the Doctor arrived yet?”
While looking at Roelin, Kergel soon grew impatient and raised his voice. Then, Lucy tried to turn around and look outside the tent.
At that moment, there was a rush of someone outside the tent and the knights dashed in immediately.
It was the knight who had received the order from Lucy before he went to pick the Doctor up. The knight soon came in with the Doctor on his shoulder as if he was just a mere weight and immediately put the Doctor down on the ground.
“Did you bring any antidote with you?”
Kergel urged and asked even before the Doctor could hold himself up. Then, when the Doctor saw Kergel, he became surprised by the change and opened his eyes wide as he stuttered.
“Who—who…”
“Did you bring the antidote?”
Kergel raised his voice to the Doctor. Only then did the Doctor come to his senses and scrambled to take out the antidote from his own arms.
“Yes, here they are. It is in the form of pills, but if you put it in your mouth, it will melt down and just absorb by itself. So, you can just drink it without any water. But did any seizures happen once more……”
“……there hasn’t been a third seizure just yet.”
At that moment, Roelin interrupted the Palace Doctor’s words and opened her mouth. Right at the sound of that voice, both Kergel and Lucy turned to look at her at the same time.
Roelin was already half up while panting away with a frown on her brow as if she was holding back the pain.
“Roelin!”
When Kergel saw her appearance, he instantly took a step closer to her and reached out. Then, Roelin seemed to have hesitated unknowingly as she trembled.
“Oh, that’s…”
She opened her own mouth in bewilderment herself. But even before that, Kergel parted his mouth open in return.
“Doctor, hurry up and give the Empress the antidote. And the wound on her foot is serious, so treat it quickly. Also, treat all the wounds on her face and other parts with the same special care as well.”
“Your—Your Majesty!”
After speaking unilaterally to the Doctor himself, Kergel immediately went out of the tent without listening to his answer. Lucy called him out in a hurry, albeit awkwardly, but he had already left entirely.
“……”
Roelin stared at the direction in which he went out. Then, she grabbed the front of her clothes. Somehow she couldn’t feel any pain, even though the pain would have been doubled as she was squeezing her own injured hand.
It was somewhere that had been deep inside her heart that felt hurt.
It wasn’t because she had been injured during the process of being kidnapped. It was natural that it had not been a trauma at all.
“Well, please take the antidote first, Empress.”
The Doctor was still confused, but he still tried to regain his senses as he spoke to her. Roelin forced herself to shake off her heartache and popped the antidote that was handed to her by the Doctor right into her mouth.
The bitter taste began to spread through her entire mouth. Then, the Doctor began to examine Roelin’s current condition and soon continued.
“There will be a lot of pain until it’s completely healed with time. However, you don’t have to worry too much since the medicine that you just took does have some effect on reducing the pain as well.”
“Thank you.”
It still hurt, of course, but if she didn’t take the medicine, it would definitely be worse. Roelin felt a burning pain in her throat, but she did not express it and simply spoke out to the Doctor first. Then, the Doctor bowed his head as if he was feeling apologetic before he opened his mouth.
“Then, I’ll have a look at your other wounds, Empress.”
“Do proceed.”
“He said that the wound on your foot was especially severe……”
As he recalled what Kergel had said a while ago, the Doctor tried to look at Roelin’s feet first.
“……mmm.”
A moan leaked out from Roelin’s mouth when the Doctor untied the cloth that was wrapped around her feet. This was because the wound on Roelin’s foot had been so deep. Lucy also saw her wound and gulped down a breath. This was due to the fact that there had been a big difference between what she just guessed earlier and what she could finally see with her own eyes.
At that moment, after the surprised Doctor had calmed his heart down, he straight away opened his mouth.
“The wound may be infected, so you should have your feet all washed and cleaned first.”
“Ah! I already told them to prepare warm water even if you didn’t… ah! Hurry up and bring it over here.”
Lucy beckoned hastily when she saw a soldier who had just brought in the needed water. Then, the soldier immediately approached along with a bucket of warm water that was already steamed up.
Lucy rolled up her sleeves and proceeded to wash Roelin’s feet.
“……”
Roelin looked down quietly as Lucy was washing her feet while kneeling in front of her. Despite the fact that she was carefully pouring water over her feet, as soon as water started to flow along the area where she had been injured from the perforation, it caused pain as if she was being set on fire at once.
She unwittingly squeezed her hand as she scratched against the cot with her fingertips.
‘………Kergel.’
Then, Roelin’s eyes turned outwards all of a sudden. Roelin’s gaze wandered somewhere for a while with a mournful glow as if searching for the man who had already gone out and had no way to find a trace as he had been somewhere outside the tent at that moment.
Her blue eyes seemed to appear even more complicated than ever because of the combination of confusion, apologetic, longing and such other things as well.
