I Became the Monster’s Bride - Chapter 150
Rescue, The Revealed Truth (10)
“Oh! Keuk, keuk……”
“Have you gotten the blankets? Go on in.”
As soon as the soldier saw Kergel, he couldn’t move as if he had become a mouse in front of a cat. Nevertheless, when Kergel saw the soldier was looking at him, he opened his mouth and signaled instead. Then, the soldier awkwardly composed himself before he eventually went into the tent.
The soldier recognized in his head that this was the ‘Emperor’ himself, but he still seemed to be unable to adapt to Kergel’s current appearance just yet.
‘Who could easily accept this kind of appearance after all?’
Kergel smiled bitterly at the wolf’s fur that was still covering the back of his hands and arms. In the meantime, he could feel that his protruding fangs were growing longer and shorter at will.
It was still rather difficult to control the power. It seemed that more time was definitely needed for him to return to his original form.
He looked down at his hand and sighed before swiping his hair over with both of his hands. Then, he turned his head and looked towards the tent.
There was no such thing as the ability to see through a tent that had been made of such thick cloth. However, thanks to his better sense of hearing than the others, the current situation that occurred inside the tent was vividly depicted all through his head.
“……”
When Kergel sensed that Roelin’s breathing had grown irregular, he clenched his fists. Even if she had taken the medicine to reduce pain, it didn’t mean that she was not in pain at all……
‘I wish I could be with you.’
As someone who knew her well to the point that she would definitely say everything was okay due to her force of habit, he could only guess that she was trying not to show it to Lucy or even to the Doctor right at this moment.
She would bite her lips or even grit her teeth as she tried hard to endure it.
“……what if she gets a cut on her lips? Or her teeth could have gotten damaged too.”
If he could, he just wanted to go in right now and hold Roelin in his arms while clasping her hands tightly, so that she could therefore put his hand into her mouth instead.
No, he had wanted to wash Roelin’s feet first.
Kergel recalled the soldier who just entered with a barrel of warm water. As he watched him slowly go into the tent, he had a hard time suppressing his desire to follow him inside.
It was only after he repeated countless times in his head that she would not be able to receive treatment with ease if he had entered as well.
“Aghh…”
Kergel then recalled Roelin who recoiled back even before his hand could reach towards her.
In fact, she became surprised to see him like that as she was straight away at a loss.
“And I don’t blame you.”
He murmured to himself in a low voice. There were no people around Kergel who was standing with his back to the tent. So, Kergel’s words could not reach anyone at all.
The person whom he wanted to relay these words to was currently being treated in the tent……
“……so, you don’t have to be so embarrassed and blame yourself.”
Kergel wanted to tell Roelin just that. He wished to say that to her, who was hesitant at his touch while still blaming herself.
Nevertheless, he had already left the tent without even saying a single word.
What was the point of saying that to her who was now uncomfortable with himself?
Maybe it was best not to show up in front of Roelin at the moment.
“It’s all my fault that I haven’t told you about that before.”
He smirked, albeit disappointedly, and hung his head down.
After a while, he could hear the sound of someone’s footsteps that were approaching him. But Kergel did not raise his head at all.
“……Your Majesty.”
Lucy called out to him carefully. Kergel opened his mouth with his head still cast down.
“What of Roelin?”
“She has gone to bed after all the treatment. So, I am now sending the Doctor back.”
“Don’t you think that you shouldn’t have left Roelin alone? Even if she’s already done with the treatment anyway, she may feel sick again. And I don’t think the pain is completely gone at all. Lucy, you have to stand by her at all times.”
As he listened to Lucy, he narrowed his brows in disapproval and carried on with his words. Then, Lucy slowly continued again in a calm tone.
“Wouldn’t you please stand by her side?”
“……”
Kergel looked up at Lucy. Lucy was looking at him warmly and soon added when their eyes met.
“Don’t just stay outside the tent like this. Please go inside and stand by the Empress’s side.”
“……that’s enough. Do you think that she’ll even like it if I were to go inside?”
Kergel shook his head with a smile in response.
“The treatment seems to have ended smoothly, so I’ll get going for now. My clothes are torn, so everything’s already a mess……”
“I’ll bring over your clothes. I’ll also have it prepared for you to be able to take a quick shower. Cleanliness is the most important thing to be around a patient after all.”
“Lucy! Did you even listen to me?”
Kergel raised his voice as Lucy still continued to speak regardless. But Lucy was only looking at him calmly. Just like how she did when he was still a child and didn’t admit his fault even after he had gotten into much trouble. Kergel calmed his agitation down by recalling some memories of the past. Then, he continued in a calm tone.
“I can’t see her like this again. Only after returning to my original state……”
