I Became the Monster’s Bride - Chapter 153
No Matter What You Look Like (2)
Roelin clutched onto the hem of her dress tightly. At that moment, Kergel already appeared to be marching along as he went to approach her at once.
Then, Lucy bowed deeply and took a few steps back. It was a consideration in her own way that allowed Roelin and Kergel to have a conversation all on their own.
“Roelin.”
“……You must have been tired, so why don’t you relax for a while?”
She opened her mouth in an awkward tone as she avoided Kergel’s gaze that was focusing on her.
“You look tired. Does it hurt a lot? Oh, of course it does—I asked such a stupid question.”
Kergel rambled away before he smiled bitterly at that instant.
And just for that sole moment, silence fell right between the two of them—a rather awkward atmosphere.
Such an atmosphere kept on continuing throughout the whole way. They avoided each other and when they finally did encounter one another, only an awkward silence passed by.
‘But I can’t keep on doing this.’
Roelin pressed herself inwardly. Since she was the one who avoided Kergel at first, she started to distance herself. And she was not unaware of that at all.
Far from being angry at her actions, what should she actually do with this man who was being this utterly considerate?
‘You must have been hurt a lot because of me.’
She gazed at him carefully. Kergel’s current appearance had returned pretty much back to its original state.
Was it because of that?
He was quite strange and awkward, but the feeling had now disappeared a little. Roelin plucked up her courage and slowly opened her mouth.
“Now, you’ve returned to a certain extent?”
“Ah…… uh.”
Kergel seemed perplexed for a moment as if he never had a thought that she would talk to him and soon, he replied while rubbing his hand over his chin. Over time, he was eventually able to control his power, so he could slowly recover to some extent.
However, Kergel was not yet aware of it himself. He had been paying so much attention to Roelin that he didn’t notice his own change at all.
He felt a little bit confident and flashed a bitter smile in response.
‘What’s the point of returning back to my true self anyway? You have already seen me turning into a monster after all.’
Kergel felt sorry for himself at the moment even when he had already returned to his original state. And at that instant, Roelin opened her mouth towards him.
“Then, right now… are you ready to continue the conversation with me?”
“……”
Kergel began listening to her words instead of still feeling sad about himself. Roelin’s blue eyes eventually captured a hold of him with a lot of tension. When she suddenly made eye contact with him, she tried to sneak away from him without her realizing it, but still, she looked straight at him once again and continued.
“I—am ready to have the conversation with you now.”
“……”
“To tell you the truth, I’ve just prepared my mind.”
Roelin confided about her cowardice with him. She didn’t want to make up a lie about the way she had just turned away from him as she tried to avoid him until just a moment ago.
Did he notice that feeling of hers?
His golden eyes shook as he kept his gaze on her. Then, Kergel sighed softly before he closed his eyes once and opened them as he pointed deep into the forest.
“Then, shall we go over there and have a talk? It’d be hard for the other people to listen in as well.”
“……Let’s do that.”
Roelin hesitated for a moment before she soon nodded slowly. Then, Kergel approached the portable chair where she had been sitting and opened his mouth yet again.
“Well then, excuse me.”
Along with the horse, Kergel held the back of the portable chair which Roelin sat on with both hands. Then, he carefully pushed the chair towards the road heading inside the forest.
It rattled softly.
The wheels on the chair shook little by little as they hit the bumpy rock. Then, his touch while pushing the chair grew slower and eventually more cautious in response.
“……”
When Roelin felt the change, she closed her lips and clenched her hands.
Such a foolish man.
She murmured quietly to herself. It was heartbreaking to see a man such as himself who was so strong that no one could ever beat him—the most powerful man in the world—had been so careful about his own behavior in front of her.
It would entirely be her fault that made him to be so cautious and self-conscious like that.
Roelin closed her eyes tightly and opened them soon enough. Just in time, he slowly stopped pushing the chair as he finally reached the right place to talk. On the other hand, she took a breath before she then raised her gaze.
A small lake could be seen in sight. She could also see a lot of moss on the edge of the lake, perhaps due to the fact that it didn’t get sunlight because of those tall trees.
The smell of water and the scent of damp soil began to spread. She suddenly had a thought that if there was any smell in the olden times, it would definitely appear like this.
“As I have already said before, I am a descendant of the Ancient Wolves.”
At that moment, a break of silence soon came when Kergel opened his mouth. Roelin looked at the scenery of the lake before she slowly turned her gaze and looked upwards at him.
She couldn’t meet his eye level since she had already sat down. Just as though Kergel had noticed that, he then took a large stone nearby and placed it next to her before he took a seat on it.
