Chapter 30
Yuria hoped that this calling of hers would reach him and that he would appear. Thus, she hoped he would help Fren.
Not long after Yuria called Cain’s name, black energy like a mist appeared in front of her. Soon, Cain appeared within the cloud.
“Cain!”
Without a moment of startlement due to his quick appearance, Yuria hurriedly grabbed him. Cain looked at Yuria affectionately. Looking at her again, she was still a lovely woman. The woman’s clear and transparent eyes were full of desperation and urgency. The tears hanging from the corners of her eyes were too bright and enchanting. The fact that his name came out of her mouth, he was so happy to see her running as if he was her only rope.
“Fren– Fren is sick.”
‘Tsk.’ As if Fren was an obstacle that stood in the way between him and Yuria, Cain clicked his tongue and looked indifferently at Fren, who was lying on the floor.
‘As I expected…’
“He sure looks bad.”
It was a completely different tone from when he was dealing with Yuria.
“I want to take him to a physician, but I can’t… Please help me.”
If it was Cain, he would definitely be able to help Fren. Last time, he saved Fren, who was about to die, and helped him come to his senses safely.
“Didn’t I tell you I’ll give you whatever you want?”
He didn’t like the fact that all she wanted from him was to save that little boy, but what could he do? Just as she was precious to him, that little boy was precious to her. It would be futile to tell her not to cherish something that was already settled in her heart.
“Cain…”
Yuria looked at him eagerly, relieved to see some hope. Those eyes were so lovely… if it weren’t for the circumstances, Cain might have grabbed Yuria and dragged her to a place only he knew.
“You do not have to worry.”
Cain said tenderly as if to appease Yuria. Being unaware of the situation, Yuria may have such a worried expression on her face, but since he appeared she shouldn’t be worried about Fren.
He was just getting ready for his awakening. If it wasn’t for Cain, he might have died without overcoming the fever.
“But Fren–”
“I’m with you.”
As if that was enough, Cain gently stroked Yuria’s cheek. It was unbelievably warm. Her body temperature passing through his fingertips had a warmth he had never felt before. So it was really strange. The fact that he could feel someone’s body heat like this, the fact that he could touch her lovely cheeks.
“Let’s move first.”
The proposal was for Yuria, not Fren. Being in a place where she could fly away if the wind blew or faint if hit, he couldn’t leave such a seemingly frail being where there was no space to rest properly.
Yuria nodded her head as if it didn’t matter what she had to do as long as Fren was okay. The place changed in an instant. The three of them arrived at the house where Yuria and Fren were staying.
“Don’t cry, darling.”
Laying Fren on the bed, Cain frowned at the sudden tears flowing down Yuria’s cheeks. Even a single drop of her tears had become a huge dagger that pierced his own heart.
“As long as I am by your side, no one can hurt you or make you cry.”
Even for that little boy, it was the same thing.
So, first of all, I’ll have to deal with that little boy. If possible, he’d like to enjoy the moment with her a little more, but if the kid’s condition continued like that, she wouldn’t focus on him and would only care about the kid. Even if the kid was precious to her, it didn’t feel good that she had all her senses focused on him. Cain comforted her by stroking Yuria’s hair for a moment then immediately reached toward Fren lying on the bed.
‘Tsk.’ It was said to be a simple awakening fever, but he was not in good condition. He had a lot of energy that had already been greatly entangled due to his rampage a few days ago. Thus, it was wandering around and attacking Fren’s body without finding its way. Originally, it was necessary to break through the blocked road and move smoothly along the path to increase its size. Thus, the energy that was not properly refined was found to be in its proper shape, and it became more pure and strong.
‘If you get lost, just let me know.’ It was not difficult to try again as it had already been done once. Cain poured his energy into Fren’s body without any sign of difficulty and forced Fren’s energy to follow his own. Then, the boiling energy calmed down, and he made a path following Cain’s energy. Along with it, Fren’s complexion, which had seemed to indicate pain, gradually calmed down.
Yuria held her breath and looked at Cain. Fren’s body was still like a ball of fire, and he was sweating profusely, but Yuria instinctively noticed that Fren’s condition had improved.
“Now the worry is over.”
“It’s a relief. I’m so relieved. Thank you so much.”
Even if she couldn’t figure out why he was doing her a favor, he had been a huge help twice. To express her gratitude for him, even collecting all the words in the world would not be enough.
“Well, that little boy should thank you.”
If it wasn’t for Yuria, he wouldn’t have helped the boy so willingly. In addition, he would have lived without even knowing the existence of that kid until now. Then that little boy would have endured everything on his own without any help, and in the end, he would have collapsed without being able to overcome it. For that brat, meeting Yuria was truly a great fortune.
“Fren is my son. So of course everything I do for him is natural.”
“It’s truly sweet of you.”
Even if she felt attached as a family because she was human, Yuria and Fren were not related by blood. So he couldn’t understand Yuria’s attitude at all, but it made Cain realize how deeply Yuria felt for that little brat. It was such a pure and intense emotion that even the devil Cain could feel it strongly. That was why he didn’t like that kid even more and even envied him.
“It’s not sweet. It’s just because it’s Fren. He’s Fren, that’s why she’s like that.”
“Well, would someone who isn’t kind work so hard for someone who isn’t family by blood?” Cain was well acquainted with humans. About how selfish they were. Even those related by blood were mercilessly thrown away when they were considered a burden. Even while saying that they liked them the most in the world, they would change their attitude in an instant and hurt the other person. As a demon, he had no thoughts about such attitudes of humans, but Yuria’s attitude toward Fren was even more dazzling and precious. Moreover, Fren was no ordinary human being. He was a being who inherited the blood of demons. With that in mind, it would not be strange if Yuria tried to throw Fren away or kill him right away. Looking at Yuria’s attitude, she seemed to know that Fren was not an ordinary human being. Nevertheless, Yuria still cherished and loved Fren. As much as she looked lovely, she had a lovely soul and heart.
On the other hand, at Cain’s words, Yuria had a surprised expression on her face. Perhaps it was because the person whom she had only seen three times already knew that she and Fren were unrelated.
“How…”
“I couldn’t not know.”
“…”
At Cain’s statement, Yuria stared at him with lowered eyes, as if trying to grasp his mind, and at her gaze, he only smiled brightly. It was awkward because it was a smile that he had never done properly before, but the feelings in it were true. Cain was more than happy to see himself in her eyes. To the extent that he wished that she could only have him in her eyes. It was then,
“Ugh, nnnhh.”
A pained groan escaped from Fren’s mouth, who had been lying quietly. Yuria, who thought that Fren was okay, made an anxious expression. Cain noticed her gaze shifting from him toward the kid and put on a dissatisfied expression. He wanted to force her to turn her head and look at him, but how dare he touch that precious body. If he put a little bit of force on it even, he didn’t know if it would break helplessly.
“That kid is just going through a period of awakening.”
“…Awakening?”
“Yeah, if you’re a demon, you have to go through it.”
Everyone had to go through a total of two awakenings to properly grow into a demon. Through the first awakening, the energy bloomed, and through the second, complete growth was achieved. Considering the brat’s age, it was a fairly early awakening, but considering the energy he had, it was not difficult to understand. The stronger the demon, the earlier the awakening. The very existence of Fren was also a very special case.
At Cain’s words, Yuria’s face lit up with a vigilant light. Knowing that Fren and herself weren’t blood-related and also that Fren had demon blood.
‘Come to think of it, there were not just one or two strange things.’ How was Cain able to recognize Fren’s condition every time and help him? If he was an ordinary human, it would be something he would never know. That was exactly why Yuria, who knew Fren’s true identity, didn’t know anything about it.
“I am not a dangerous person.” Cain read the shade on Yuria’s face and said kindly. In his voice, there was an unspeakable affection and kindness toward her. Even with those words, Yuria kept her guard up. Although it was a pity to be wary of him now, when he had helped her twice, she had to be vigilant about Fren’s safety.
“I will never harm you or your loved ones.” On the contrary, he was impatient because she couldn’t cherish him.
As if to grasp the true meaning of Cain’s words, Yuria stared straight into his eyes. There was no lie in his eyes. Contrary to the atmosphere emanating from him, his eyes were supremely clear and transparent.
“…Who is Cain? What are you really?”
Unless such a question was resolved, she couldn’t easily believe in Cain’s favor no matter how he treated her.
As if troubled by her question Cain stared at Yuria quietly. Then he slowly opened his mouth as if he had made a decision.
“Demon. And seemingly, that kid’s father.”
