Chapter 153

Sera watched as Rosé and Ferre sat still and only fiddled with their pencils.
Usually, they would have already called her ‘Seraaaaa’ and ‘Seeeeraa’ dozens of times by now, and there’d be dozens more again to come.
But right now, the twins remained silent while they kept their mouths shut.
When she tried to ask them, the only two answers they would give her were ‘Yes’ and ‘No’, repeating the same two things like parrots.
‘Did I do something wrong…? You’re both sulking so much that you wouldn’t even look at me. And your eyes look swollen, too.’
“Your Highnesses, what happened? Are you mad at me? Hm?”
She leaned forward and got close to the twin prince and princess as she asked, trying to make eye contact. However, she failed!
The swollen-eyed twins raised their chins proudly with an accompanying, ‘Hmph!’
Sera turned her head along with their movements, trying to meet their gazes, but when she faced them again, they both turned away once more.
“Whyyy? Who upset our Princess Rosé and Prince Ferre? Why have you become so upset today?”
With a gentle, coaxing voice, Sera urged them sweetly. Just as much as Sera was weak against Rosé and Ferre’s cuteness, Rosé and Ferre were also equally weak against Sera’s sweetness.
The children’s resolve weakened slightly, and so they glanced furtively at Sera. But not even two seconds later, their heads were directed again towards that far, far window over there.
“Why oh why? What happened? I’ll become upset too if Your Highnesses really won’t look at me… I want to see your pretty faces a lot!”
Sera said this with a heavy tone of dismay. But the children did not budge.
What should she do? Sera sighed, but right then, the twins glared at her.
“Who’s the one upset now? Why is Sera upset with us!”
“Yeah! Sera, I hate you!”
Rosé and Ferre yelled one after another, throwing their pencils down on the floor. Those two pencils rolled over and reached Sera’s shoes.
Although the children complained and voiced their frustrations, Sera smiled quietly and picked up the pencils.
As she approached Rosé and Ferre, she gently touched their tightly closed fists. Soon, their palms opened like maple leaves.
Gently, she returned the pencils into their small hands.
“It would be nice if you could tell me.”
Her voice sounded soft to the children’s ears, and there seemed to be no sign of anger at all.
Along with her gentle touch, the twins caught Sera before she could return to her seat.
“Sera.”
The twins looked at her at the same time. And at this, Sera patted them both on their heads because she knew that they wanted to say sorry.
At that very moment, Rosé and Ferre burst into tears.
“Huaaaang— Se…ra, huaang. Hate you.”
“Hiinnng. Sera, I really hate you. How could you. Hicc.”
“What?”
“Huaaang— We heard it all from Oppa! Sera won’t anymore, with us… with us! He said you won’t stway wiv us! Hate you! I hate you! Hiiic.”
“I… hiiing… I… I wike Sera, but Sera is bad!”
Rosé and Ferre both raised their little fists and hit Sera, but then it was impossible for them to hurt Sera.
Shocked and flustered, Sera hugged the twins tightly, thinking quickly of how she could comfort them. However, rather than stopping, the tears flowed out more and more.
“Uwaaaah— Sera. Don’t go.”
“Huaaang— Please still be our teacher! Huaaaaang!”
And it was only then that Sera understood why the children had started crying, and why they had been upset with her since this morning. Without realizing it, a long sigh left her lips.
‘I was going to tell you later, but… His Majesty must have said it first.’
Sera slowly patted the children’s backs, holding back the urge to complain to the emperor a little.
Calmly, she hugged the children and soothed them without saying a word.
By the time their panting breaths had become a little more stable, Sera’s blouse inevitably became covered in tears and snot.
Of course, Rosé and Ferre’s faces were a mess, too. The twins had strawberry noses and rabbit eyes, and there were too many runny nose trails on their faces.
Sera really shouldn’t laugh, but they were so cute that she almost couldn’t help it. She had to bite down on her tongue so that she wouldn’t smile.
Ahem, ahem. Sera cleared her throat as she schooled her features. Then, she took out two handkerchiefs from her satchel. This was so that she could wipe the children’s faces clean.
“Now then, please blow your nose and go like hnk.”
Sera imitated the sound of a blown nose when she placed one handkerchief on Ferre’s nose, demonstrating to him so that he would follow.”
“U-hnk?”
“Your Highness Ferre, don’t blow with your mouth. Use your nose and then go, hnnk!”
“Hnnnk!”
“Well done.”
Then, Sera placed that used hanky into a pouch.
“Now, Your Highness Rosé. Try doing it, too. Hnnk!”
“Hnnk!”
“One more time, hnnk!”
“Hnnnnk!”
With another extra handkerchief, Sera wiped the children’s eyes and noses once more.
Inside the children’s study at the Star Palace, silence blanketed the room again. Sera took the initiative to ask them first, and she asked in a tone of voice that was very careful—just in case the children might start crying again.
“Did you hear about it yesterday from His Majesty?”
Rosé nodded. Ferre, who glanced at Rosé beside him, nodded as well.
“Uh-huh. Oppa said that our tutor will change starting September. And he said that he asked you a favor only until August.”
“I’m sorry. I should have told you first. Were you very surprised?”
“No, just. Just don’t go, Sera.”
Rosé and Ferre shook their heads and grabbed onto her arms, looking up at her with wide, teary eyes. Sera wavered, feeling herself grow weak.
“Sera and Hyung should just make a promise with an impewial order. Even if Sera cwan’t stay as our tutor, jwust stay with us so we can see each other evewyday.”
Ferre murmured, his pronunciation still affected by his sobs. Sera could understand where he was coming from, but she could feel a pained smile over her lips. She felt so apologetic to them.
“Still, Your Highness. You can’t say that just anywhere.”
She said this gently to the children.
“Whyyy?”
“As I’ve mentioned before, His Majesty would be greatly troubled if Your Highnesses say those things. The person who will eventually marry His Majesty will be very hurt to hear that.”
“Hyung also said that if we say that, Sera will be in trouble. Yesterday, Hyung asked us what we think about his marriage. And I thought that Hyung is saying that he’ll marry Sera, so I said I like it. But it’s not like that, and I hate it.”
Ferre pouted and grumbled.
“Ah… Did His Majesty say that he’s going to get married?”
Sera didn’t know that. She wondered if he was going to get married soon.
