I Became the Ultimate Boss - Chapter 43
Chapter 43: Interrogating the Shadows Again
There was a limit to the tests. The investigation bureau in Whale City was not the biggest one, so they couldn’t test Classification Level 0 items here.
With that said, they would not perform an auxiliary test on Classification Level 1 items simply.
Therefore, the big-faced cat was currently recorded as a Classification Level 1 item. Nobody knew how far its knowledge could go.
Meanwhile, Ke Meng clicked on item 1-0528 on the website. He saw the big-faced cat’s full-body portrait. There were lines of physical data beneath it, including its height, weight, hair color, body temperature, abilities, and so on.
All data was marked with a red exclamation mark on the top right. Ke Meng clicked with the cursor, and a line of small text appeared immediately.
‘For Class A member’s access only.’
Ke Meng was not a Class A member, but he was the owner. He had the authorization to check the item directly.
There was a special remark at the very bottom of the big-faced cat’s profile.
“Remark: 1-0528 might possess knowledge on Classification Level 0 items. It has yet to be tested. It’s currently recorded as Classification Level 1.”
“Captain Luo, when will you guys be doing the Classification Level 0 test?” Ke Meng asked.
“There’s no more news about the Classification Level 0 test. It’ll be classified as a Classification Level 1 item for now.” Captain Luo tilted his head and tapped on the Bluetooth earphone in his ear to hint Ke Meng.
He was not the one calling the shots; it was his superior who decided that.
There was a camera recording the test over here. The whole procedure was sent to the headquarters.
The headquarters had ordered Captain Luo that no Classification Level 0 test would be performed.
“Huh, really?” Ke Meng said, feeling surprised.
“You’re supernumerary personnel. No leaders are willing to let you get close to a Classification Level 0 item at the moment. Given that your big-faced cat isn’t an aggressive item, it doesn’t matter if you keep it without doing anything to it.”
Captain Luo explained and whispered, “Classification Level 0 items are very scary, they’re not worth being tested. Moreover, I don’t suppose you’re willing to give us the big-faced cat? We can only drop it.”
Ke Meng nodded. Naturally, he was unwilling to surrender the big-faced cat.
Through Captain Luo’s explanation, Ke Meng slowly learned the Special Affairs Investigation Bureau’s way of handling things.
“The headquarters had looked through your profile since young until now. You have no record of activities against humanity. You can return with your items,” Captain Luo said to Ke Meng as he received a new order at the moment.
Ke Meng heard the underlying meaning of the superior’s gentle warning. He would have gone through a strict investigation if he had been recorded to have done anything that was against humanity. One could imagine the consequences if the records were true. Everyone would live a harmonious life if nobody had the tendency to do anything against humanity.
Nobody liked a broken and hopeless society.
Captain Luo sent him out as he spoke. He took the effort to send Ke Meng home. After all, Glutinous Ball was a huge pet. The big-faced cat, a Classification Level 1 item, should not be exposed in public as well.
It was already 21:50 when he got home. The convenience store downstairs was still open, but there were no customers. The mother and daughter in the store were preparing to clean the floor and close the store.
The car pulled over downstairs, and Ke Meng brought the dog and cat home.
After Captain Luo left, Chen Momo received a message from Ke Meng telling her that he had arrived home safely.
Momo asked, “Are both ants still there since you were out?”
“They’re still here,” Ke Meng replied.
Both ants were confined in a tiny box at Ke Meng’s home. There were humans’ shadows beneath—it was them.
After the shadow species lived in a host, they would not change hosts easily as they would fall into a deep sleep every time they changed a host.
The reason for deep sleep was because the shadows needed to reach a balance with the host. That required a great amount of time.
Mi Jingyun had left Mrs. Chen’s body previously to move around out there in order to train her ability and reduce her deep sleep period.
Meanwhile, Ke Meng had removed the ants’ original shadows. They did not have to fight that, which took away the deep sleep step.
At the moment, both of them hid beneath the ants and stayed still on the floor.
They only moved when Ke Meng poked them with his finger. They were moving slowly.
“You guys wouldn’t dare to leave, would you?” Ke Meng asked.
To be honest, there was no way for Ke Meng to watch them at all times. He was the only person who possessed the Shadow Catcher skill in this house.
He asked Captain Luo how they would handle that fugitive. Unfortunately, Captain Luo did not tell as it was the investigation bureau confidential unless Ke Meng joined the organization.
If both ants before him were to run away, they could seize the opportunity when he was sleeping at night. There was nothing that he could do about it.
It would be futile for him to kill the ants, as they could change hosts. Meanwhile, Ke Meng’s Shadow Catcher could only be used to capture shadows, but not tearing shadows apart.
Could he be holding the shadows with the Shadow Catcher at all times? He could not do it. He was human after all and needed sleep.
As soon as Ke Meng slept, it would be the opportunity for both shadows to escape.
They were two-dimensional, so they could escape as long as there was a gap. Theoretically, it was hard to contain such a thing.
Only the special item used to burn dark power like the one Captain Luo had could seal the shadow species’ and contain them.
Both ants wrote on the floor, “We can’t get out.”
“Why not?” Ke Meng asked.
“No idea,” both ants wrote again.
They were ants, and it was a major trouble for them to write, causing both sides of communication to be difficult. They could only shorten the words as much as they could.
Ke Meng had no lie detector with him. It was hard for him to sense what both ants were thinking.
‘Do they really not know how to, or do they not have the strength to escape?’
Talk about sensing, Ke Meng could only sense Glutinous Ball’s language at the moment.
Perhaps it had something to do with him being the master. After all, Glutinous Ball had seen Ke Meng as soon as it had opened its eyes. They had built a strong connection unconsciously.
“Let’s test it then,” Ke Meng said.
It did not make sense that they could escape earlier, and now they could not.
Both ants were rather anxious now. How would Ke Meng test that? They just could not escape, or they would have done it earlier.
“Your current situation has something to do with the ants that you guys are living in. I’ve taken the original shadows away and put them on other bugs.
“Your failure to escape might be related to them not having shadows.
“So I’m going to test it now. I’ll toss you guys into other shadows and see what will happen.”
Ke Meng grabbed Mi Jingyun’s shadow, which was the one that lived in Mrs. Chen’s shadow previously, before waiting for the duo to protest his idea.
He did not have a good feeling about the two shadow creatures.
Although he did not see them doing anything vile, them living in someone else’s bodies as parasites disgusted him. In addition, he still remembered what the big-faced cat explained to him.
“This is a living thing that has another species’ shadow invaded its body. Currently, the master took over the mobility while the secondary personality is sleeping. There might be something unpredictable happening in the future.”
The important points were ‘future’ and ‘something unpredictable’. Ke Meng thought hard to himself. The shadow species might eventually take over the host’s body, controlling the body and being reborn as a new person.
It was difficult to kill them, though. It was impossible for Ke Meng to squeeze them until they died without sleeping. He could only find out their nature and find a solution through that.
He waved his right hand, and Mi Jingyun’s shadow was placed inside the seven-spot ladybird’s shadow. The shadow beneath its legs expanded, and there seemed to be a couple of tentacles growing. They then vanished quickly, regaining the ladybird’s original shadow.
“Mi Jingyun, can you hear me?” Ke Meng asked, “Move your left leg if you hear me.”
The seven-spot ladybird was currently standing on the floor in silence. It did not do anything. It seemed the seven-spot ladybird’s main body had control over the body. Mi Jingyun, who loved leaving the body to take a stroll, had fallen into deep sleep now.
On the other side of the table, the tiny ant Wen Yushan was shaking.
‘This man is terrifying!’
