I Don’t Need A Husband - Chapter 63
Chapter 63
Usman’s mouth fell shut at Berthas’ words.
“So, I will empower her to do whatever she wants.”
“Do you think that will be easy?”
“Of course, it will be difficult. You don’t think it would have been easy for me to have Hillenton either.”
Usman exclaimed at Berthas.
“I don’t want to hear an excuse from someone who left the woman he loved alone who was having a hard time.”
“If I hadn’t left Isilis at that time and had Hillenton in my hands, I wouldn’t have had a chance. You know that well, don’t you?”
“To the half-imperial family, who…!”
“Yes. The half-imperial family you always talk about. However, Hillenton bowed to her and handed over the Emperor’s seat to the royal child. And that child will now be the Princess of Larchen and the heir to the throne.”
“I’ve never heard of giving the position of Empress of Larchen to someone without magical powers.”
“Oh, didn’t you hear? My child has manifested magical powers.”
“…What?”
“To be exact, Isilis and my child.”
Nobles asked for an audience, unknown where they had heard the news. Everyone was asking her to forgive their sins in the past, though Isilis, tired of listening to it, opened her mouth.
“I can’t entrust the education of the Imperial Family to those who stick here and there depending on the current.”
“Do you have someone in mind?”
As Duke Verus asked so, Isilis raised her head. The nobles who faced her straight gaze averted their eyes. ‘Tsk,’ she clicked her tongue and said to Duke Verus.
“I’ll leave it to Allure, the chief wizard.”
“However, Your Majesty. He is already performing the duties of a chief wizard…”
“Allure.”
“Yes. Your Majesty.”
“Is it difficult?”
“It is an honor.”
The nobles stopped their whispers because Allure had spoken. He glanced around at the nobles with a sharp gaze. The nobles, who knew that he had come with the Princess, were thinking of ways to line up to him.
“Your Majesty.”
“It’s done. Duke. He is the one who found the princess and the one who took care of her when she manifested her magical powers, so she is the most suitable person to be the next Empress’ aide.”
“I take orders.”
As soon as Isilis finished speaking, Allure replied. No one could argue with his quick reply. Duke Verus opened his mouth again, but Isilis raised her hand to stop him.
“The decision has already been made, so I don’t want to hear anymore.”
“But Your Majesty…”
“Isn’t it done? Now that the princess has manifested magic, she’s not just an imperial family but the Crown Princess. Looks like we’ll have to have a ceremony to instate her soon. I hope the Duke does his best.”
“I will keep that in mind.”
She stopped the Duke’s words by entrusting him with a completely different task.
“Then, Your Majesty, what will happen to the imperial wedding?”
“Now is your chance, Your Majesty. I heard that Berthas Hillenton is the Princess’ father. If that’s the case, isn’t that a justification enough?”
“That’s right. I had heard that the Crown Princess has become the Empress of Hillenton.”
“Marquis, where else did you hear that?”
The noises couldn’t make her think. Isilis raised her hand and spoke to the nobles.
“I don’t know which one I should follow. Before you said it should be Marquis Cyrka, then you said it should be the Crown Prince of the Khalifa Empire, and finally, it is Berthas Hillenton?”
“Your Majesty. Isn’t the situation different from then?”
“The situation is different for us as well. Isn’t that right, Duke?”
“It is, Your Majesty.”
“For now, today’s meeting ends here.”
“Your Majesty.”
“Quiet. I said it is finished.”
After that, no one could stop Isilis from standing up from her seat. As she walked out of the meeting room, the nobles, who were watching her in dismay, scrambled to open their mouths.
“Now is the chance. We can take Hillenton!”
“In the meantime, Berthas Hillenton was protecting the place, so it was hard to overlook, but now the opportunity has arrived.”
“Once we take Hillenton, we won’t need the nobles there.”
“If we want to absorb a place where there are many knight-born nobles like Hillenton into the Magic Empire, we should send wizards…”
Duke Verus sighed, seeing the nobles who were fantasizing among themselves. The Duke’s close friend, Marquis Miller, looked at the Duke and opened his mouth.
“What is wrong with you?”
“What are they doing with that much thought? Even if Hillenton is subordinated to Larchen, Hillenton’s knights will follow Berthas Hillenton. I don’t know if they will be able to become our princess’s servants or not, but they’re just getting excited about empty thoughts. Tsk!”
“They don’t know that. They’re trying to get rid of anxiety by talking like that.”
“Anxiety?”
“Don’t you know? Seeing Her Majesty’s expression.”
“Why?”
“How many people do you think will survive even if they despise the princess? Most of them were the ones who forced the Empress into marriage when the crown princess had no magical powers. There’s no way Her Majesty would forget that.”
“But…”
“So, Duke, leave your worries behind and have a drink.”
“Are you bringing out the liquor from your house?”
“Of course.”
Duke Berus took the lead, saying that drinking with old friends was always fun. It was Marquis Miller who secretly laughed behind the Duke.
“They’re like a herd of hounds.”
“Your Majesty. It’s not good for your health. Please calm down.”
“I… ha. Yes, I should calm down.”
Isilis let out a sigh and placed a hand on her throbbing head to Allure’s advice. Her mind was complicated. It seemed like she was overloaded with so many things happening all at once.
“Why am I so tired?”
“Shall I cast a recovery spell?”
“Forget it. Your magic doesn’t work on me.”
The gap between the magical powers was so great that Allure’s magic did not work on Isilis.
“Your Majesty. Go in and take a rest…”
“Isilis.”
It was Berthas.
Hearing his voice, Allure turned his head and uttered.
“That’s rude.”
“Don’t come at me. The crown prince of the Khalifa Empire alone already gave me a headache.”
Isilis laughed as she heard Berthas. Seeing him shaking his head as if his head really hurt, Allure laughed and opened his mouth.
“But… A simple Usman Khalifa might be better than you, the sly one.”
“The man of the desert is simple? A passing dog would laugh.”
Isilis just smiled at Berthas’ calm words. She opened her mouth as she went to Berthas, gesturing at Allure.
“Looks like the Hillenton’s Regent is free.”
“Don’t call me that. Isilis.”
“If I don’t call the Regent as Regent, what should I call it?”
“Isilis. You. I know you’re upset that I’m so late, but you’re being too much.”
“Isilis.”
Usman appeared between Berthas and Isilis. Usman Khalifa’s appearance made Berthas’ head explode.
Without even looking at him, Usman spoke to Isilis.
“I have prepared tea in the garden. Would you like to go to rest?”
“The garden?”
“Weren’t you always out there at this time?”
“I did.”
Isilis, who glanced at Berthas’ face, let out a light breath and spoke.
“Would you like to come with me?”
The tea was going into his mouth though he couldn’t feel the fragrant taste. At least Isilis seemed to enjoy it. Berthas was sipping tea with an expressionless face, and Usman was grinning on the other side.
Isilis opened her mouth with a smile that looked strangely mean.
“Is there anything that makes you feel good?”
“I met an old nemesis, but I can’t help but be happy because that nemesis isn’t showing up properly.”
“Old nemesis?”
“Is it not?”
When Berthas asked about Usman’s words, Usman answered lightly and spoke again.
“Isilis. Isn’t it time for you to go back to work in a little while?”
“Right.”
Isilis nodded her head at Usman’s words, as he knew her time, but she was also worried. Was it okay to leave Berthas and Usman behind? The flowers blooming in the garden were beautiful, but she only focused her eyes on the teacup without taking time to feel the beauty.
As the uncomfortable atmosphere continued, she could not stand it and stood up.
“Your Majesty. Duke Verus is waiting for you.”
She stood up and nodded as the chief attendant delivered the news.
“I’m going now. Are you two going to stay here?”
“I’m going to enjoy my tea more here.”
“I’ll do that, too.”
Isilis was puzzled when Usman and Berthas said that they would stay, but she nodded her head anyway.
“Then, I’ll see you.”
The two of them turned and watched her as she walked away, then turned their faces towards each other after Isilis completely disappeared.
“Usman Khalifa.”
The low-pitched voice seemed to have met an enemy.
“What is the point of calling me like that? She has already changed.”
“It’s just your opinion.”
“Am I wrong?”
“I said it was just your thoughts.”
“You’ll know that when you see it.”
He couldn’t help but look at Usman with furious eyes. It was Usman Khalifa who stood by her side during his absence. Berthas had no intention of denying that.
“You must have suffered a lot.”
Usman flinched at Berthas’ words.
“It must have been a lot of trouble to protect my woman.”
“What did you just say?”
“I said you had a lot of trouble protecting my woman.”
“Do you really want to try it with me?”
“I don’t have to do anything with you. Everything is for Isilis to decide.”
The tea smelled good.
“Even though you tried while I was gone, you still haven’t won her heart.”
“What?”
“The woman I know is not the kind of person who would accept me if she gave her heart to you.”
“She accepted you?”
“Isn’t that so?”
“You can say that because you haven’t seen her yet. She suffered because of you.”
“She suffered because of me, so I am the only one who can relieve her of that suffering.”
Usman was at a loss as Berthas spoke confidently. What the hell happened between Isilis and him? Why was this person so confident?
“You’re arrogant.“
“It’s something I can say at my time. Because I know Isilis that much.”
“I’ve known her long before you!”
“You spent a long time with her, and she still couldn’t open up to you. You’re not even a man.”
