I Don’t Want To Be Popular - Chapter 36
Chapter 36: Jackpot
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Someone was knocking on the car window.
Chen Chuan took a look and saw that it was a girl wearing a milk tea-colored trench coat.
“Excuse me, can I take a picture with your car?” the other party asked.
Chen Chuan agreed generously and even acted as the photographer to take a few photos for her.
To express her gratitude, she bought two cups of Dong Ding Oolong tea and gave 1 to Chen Chuan.
The two drank the tea and chatted a few words. Chen Chuan learned that the girl was also from Haiqin City, and coincidentally, she said that she was a 3rd-year student at Haiqin University.
Chen Chuan could not help but respect her as it turns out that she was a senior.
It was raining outside, and yet this senior did not hold an umbrella. She just let the early Fall cold rain hit her trench coat.
Chen Chuan opened the car door and let her get in the car. The two sat in the car and their relationship became closer because they were from the same university.
The senior was named Han Chunjie and she was the head of the university’s dance club. She drove an old silver Ford to go home to visit her relatives during her vacation and was now returning to school.
They had the same destination, so they went on the road together.
During the journey, they added each other as friends on WeChat and talked with their phones on speaker mode. One of their cars was behind the other’s as they drove through the rain.
At noon, they ate in a fast-food restaurant in a business area.
They took some stops along the way and finally arrived at Haiqin City in the evening.
“Self-drive back to school mission completed, you have obtained [5 Years of Driving Experience certificate], which has been instilled.”
“You have secured the [5 Years of Driving Experience Certificate].”
After the mission was completed, Chen Chuan checked himself out a bit and felt like he had gained some driving skills and experience.
Chen Chuan got out of the car and called the car shipping company to transport his sports car back to Chongqing. After all, driving a car with a Chongqing license plate in the north would gain more attention.
In terms of cost, the car transportation fee + insurance + extra services added up to 4,500 yuan, which included 1500 yuan for the insurance.
After the car was transported away by the truck, Chen Chuan called Deng Yaoyao and said, “I left your mobile phone number. One of my cars will be transported back to Chongqing from here. When it arrives, the car shipping company will contact you, so please check it out then.”
“Understood, brother. You’re back home?” Deng Yaoyao continued to chat a bit.
After hanging up the phone, Chen Chuan sat in Han Chunjie’s old Ford Focus as he headed towards the city.
His butt became sore from the bumpy ride. “Your old car, it’s getting old now isn’t it?”
“Well, I bought this second-hand car in 2013. It’s 4 years old now. I was waiting for my internship to be over to drive it so it’ll be more convenient for work,” said Han Chunjie.
Chen Chuan looked at it. Although he was not that knowledgeable about cars, it was impossible for this car to only be 4 years old based on its driving quality. Perhaps she was deceived by others.
“I got used to driving it anyway,” said Han Chunjie.
…
At the entrance of the village, Chen Chuan got out of the car and dragged his suitcase home.
When he arrived home, he saw that his mother, Zhang Xiangyun, had been picked up by Father Chen.
Their hot pot restaurant had been renovated, so the business in the new store was not bad. After all, the renovation quality was there.
Besides, Chen Chuan’s father was kind, so he had won over the hearts of many customers every day.
Zhang Xiangyun was not as foolish as Father Chen. She did not believe that a luxurious renovation was needed at all, so she only spent 50,000 yuan.
Facing Zhang Xiangyun’s interrogation, Chen Chuan took out his trump card against her, which was to change the topic.
“Look, I bought a few gambling stones when traveling around Chongqing. I heard that this thing can be a good gamble, you can gain fortune with just a cut. If there’s jade inside, it’ll be really valuable.” Chen Chuan opened the suitcase and took out the stone.
Zhang Xiangyun did not understand this, so she just looked at Father Chen.
Father Chen knew a little bit so he squatted down and touched it with interest. “Hey, you have the same hobbies as me as I’ve studied this for a while before. I’ve also watched television shows on it before. This thing is really exciting. However, this piece of yours looks average and doesn’t look like it’s going to hit the jackpot. How much did you spend? Are you sure that you didn’t get scammed?”
“Not much, I just bought it blindly to try my luck. Let’s take it and cut it to see what’s inside one day when you’re free,” said Chen Chuan.
“Sure.” Father Chen was eager to try.
Zhang Xiangyun did not give a good expression and said coldly, “After all that talk, isn’t it just gambling anyway? Chen Chuan, don’t try these types that much next time.”
“How is this gambling? This is a culture, jade culture,” explained Father Chen.
“Just breaking a stone can make you rich? You’re too optimistic. If you have that energy, quickly research and study on how hot pot restaurants can attract more business,” said Zhang Xiangyun.
Father Chen squatted on the ground, and touching the stones, he said, “I don’t think these stones will work. Someday when you are on vacation, we’ll go find some together. I have experience with this stuff as I’ve seen them on television before.”
Chen Chuan stood up and let him feel them slowly.
He wanted to take a shower and get a good night’s sleep. However, hot water in this village depended on solar energy. It kept raining these few days, so there was no sunshine and therefore the water was not hot.
He went into his room, laid on the bed, and saw that there was a new message on his phone.
It was some selfies sent by He Jinglan. The three photos had different styles. There was a cold-goddess type picture, a cutesy type picture with her pouting, and a bare-faced picture without any expressions.
Combined with her WeChat name ‘Lanlan the Heroine’, it felt very interesting.
“Why are you called the heroine and not the little fairy? Did you make a mistake when you created the name?” Chen Chuan asked curiously
.
He Jinglan replied with a sticker and said, “It is correct, a heroic heroine, fighting injustice. By the way, where are you now? If you are still in Chongqing, this lady shall invite you to come over to my house for the last time. Just forget it if you can’t come!”
Chen Chuan took a picture of his bedroom and sent it to her.
“This is your home? Is this your bedroom?” He Jinglan asked.
“Yeah. Come over to play if you have time,” Chen Chuan replied.
“Okay, okay, you said this yourself, so don’t regret it then. By the way, where is your home?”
“Dujia Village. There’s no subway here, so you’ll have to take a bus.”
After chatting for a while, Chen Chuan turned off his phone. He started to feel a little sleepy.
Zhang Xiangyun drove to the hot pot restaurant early in the morning the next day. She had been very motivated ever since the store had been renovated.
Chen Chuan and Father Chen already had plans. They drove directly to Antique Street in the city, where there was a jade cutting store.
Both of them looked nervous.
Father Chen said, “These few stones, I inspected them all night last night. You know, they might work. According to my previous experience from watching television, this one with the purple patterns may be something, but the rest seem to be a no-go.”
“Don’t say so, how can you say that they’re a no-go?” said Chen Chuan.
“Yeah, knock on wood! How can I say that they’re a no-go? It’s my son who bought these!” Father Chen said immediately.
When they arrived at the shop, they handed the four stones to the cutter without any delay.
…
The cutter’s voice trembled, “Jackpot!”
Father Chen shuddered and quickly leaned over to look.
They saw that the jade within it was pure and flawless, without any impurities and crystal clear as if it was a clear, transparent jelly. The jade had a delicate and juicy flesh-like appearance.
It had a touch of purity as it shined slightly with a warm aura.
Father Chen’s eyes widened, and he blinked quickly, like a continuous camera shot. “What kind, what kind of jade is it?”
The master did not dare to cut it anymore. He went to the side to smoke a cigarette and slowly said, “This is the best colorless jadeite. Two bosses, do you want to consider selling it directly to our shop? Our boss will definitely be interested in this appearance.”
“How much is it worth?” Father Chen asked excitedly.
The master slowly said, “This piece of jade! The quality is good, the transparency is good, and each bracelet made with it will be worth more than one million. It’s a really rare Gao Bing, two bosses. It’s really a cut into heaven, and you’ve gained a fortune.”
It was also the first time Chen Chuan had seen such a pure and flawless jelly-like jade. It looked full with a gel-like texture, and its gentle shine made it hard for people to take their eyes away.
He recorded the entire stone gambling process.
Not long later, the owner of the shop arrived.
Father Chen shook his hands in excitement like a child, and asked Chen Chuan, “Chuan, shall we sell it? Should we take it to another store or just sell it here?”
“Don’t worry, don’t worry, there are still three pieces left. We’ll talk about it after cutting them all,” said Chen Chuan.
“Okay.”
After that, they cut two more pieces which produced waxy ice-type jades. They were cut into 8 pieces, each was worth about 80,000 yuan, which was a total of 640,000 yuan.
The last piece was bought from the little girl who had been eating porridge in Thriving City.
The stone was not big and was the size of an apple.
The cutting master cut down and sat on the ground.
Chen Chuan, Father Chen, and the shop owner gathered together and saw a greenish color.
It was so green that the color looked like it was going to drip out.
“An imperial jade!” The shop owner said tremblingly.
Father Chen’s body trembled. As an amateur, he knew the concept of ‘imperial jade’ best as it was at the highest level in stone gambling. It was the rarest type, a small piece of 40-50 grams of imperial jade could cost up to tens of millions.
“Chuan, Chuan, quickly call your mother and ask her to call your uncle and second uncle. All your uncles should come over,” said Father Chen.
The shop owner said in comfort, “Don’t panic, don’t panic, we are a legal store. There’re surveillance cameras everywhere so it’s very safe. Two bosses, can we sit down, drink some tea, and talk slowly? First of all, our shop congratulates you both for hitting the jackpot and achieving financial freedom from now on.”
