Chapter 16: Sense Of Security

On the first day of the essay composition training, Xu Mang was late…a full hour late.
“You are?”
“Ah?” Xu Mang had reached the classroom and he was met with a middle-aged man who was bald. As the latter’s face was full of suspicion as he looked at him, Xu Mang hurriedly said, “Hello teacher, I’m the student recommended by Ms. Wang. My name is Xu Mang.”
“You’re Xu Mang?!”
“Xu Mang, the dumbest student in the whole of Year Three?” The middle-aged man was surprised. “You’re here for the training? And you’re going to participate in next month’s city-wide essay competition?”
Hearing his words, Xu Mang felt a little annoyed although the teacher was merely stating facts.
Cough cough!
“Teacher… Don’t judge a book by its cover. In terms of literature, I’m quite good at it. All those rumors in school are merely smoke bombs that I had to unleash to hide my talents.” Xu Mang said with an indifferent expression on his face, giving off an unpredictable feeling.
“…”
“Wait a moment while I look through the attendance list.”
The bald-headed middle-aged man referred to the name list, and finally, on the last page, outside the cover of his book, he saw Xu Mang’s name…Year 3 Class 1—Xu Mang.
Surely this was done too haphazardly!
Was he thrown in at the last minute just for the sake of making up the numbers?
Even if it was so, couldn’t they at least have some standards? Finding such a mentally-challenged weak participant, was there a point other than to lose money?
“You… Just come in first then, don’t be late in the future.” The middle-aged man was considered to be easy-going, not making a fuss about Xu Mang’s tardiness and his identity and they headed back into the classroom to continue the training.
There were roughly around thirty chairs and tables in the classroom, but there were only about a dozen students that had come for the training. Xu Mang looked around and found Yang Xiaoman sitting beside the wall, and around her were three guys. It looked as though none of them dared to sit beside her.
Coincidentally, Yang Xiaoman looked up and caught his eye.
What did it mean?
Was that a signal?
Help me?
“Xu Mang?” The middle-aged man asked. “Hurry up and sit down, the lecture is about to start.”
“Oh…”
Xu Mang finally decided to sit next to Yang Xiaoman, right beside her.
However, just as Xu Mang lowered his butt onto the cold surface of the chair, he felt four murderous chilling auras directed at him. That wasn’t right…there should logically only be three, why was there one extra?
Was it possible that he had destroyed something good going for that brute? That she had actually been fishing?
Oh my!
Just when Xu Mang was thinking all sorts of wild things, he suddenly felt a sharp pain on his foot. The severe pain sent the signals to his brain, and it hurt so badly that he had to take three breaths, feeling like he almost died.
Again?!
The first wave of pain had yet to dissipate, and a second one came once more. Xu Mang got angry. Although that savage was a martial artist, that didn’t mean that she could casually bully others. In a hurry to stop it, Xu Mang’s sinful hand reached Yang Xiaoman.
Suddenly, time stood still.
Yang Xiaoman’s enormous brain went blank, no one had ever dared to be so bold in her entire life.
Xu Mang didn’t dare to go too far either, so he just reached out and touched her a little, pulling back right after. He didn’t want to be called a gangster by others, but Xu Mang was slightly surprised that this trick was particularly useful.
The world was finally at peace.
Sleep!
The composition training was a special class to deal with the city-wide essay competition in the next month, no one would take this kind of time to fool around. However, Xu Mang was not the same, because he completely could not understand what the bald middle-aged man was talking about.
What near-sightedness and far-sightedness, what character’s inner description, what normal dialogue structure…he just didn’t understand.
The middle-aged man glanced at Xu Mang who was sleeping. He was sure that this guy had managed to enter through a backdoor, and since that was the case, he wouldn’t bother about him. As long as he didn’t cause any trouble, that was good. There were some things that couldn’t be solved as a teacher.
However, the other students were resentful of Xu Mang’s attitude. What was this place? A place to train participants. But in such a place, there appeared a sleeping scum, and it felt like the standards had just been pulled down.
However, since the training teacher had not said anything, they didn’t dare to voice out much, only able to silently endure it.
During the break, Xu Mang was surrounded by those three boys.
“Please pull out immediately!” One of the students who was tall and sturdy said. “You’re not welcomed here!”
“…”
Xu Mang compared himself with the guy and came to the conclusion that he wouldn’t be able to beat him. Faced with this kind of situation, Xu Mang began to use logic. “On what grounds? I was recommended by Ms. Wang to come here, what rights do you have to ask me to leave?”
“I’m from the school’s basketball team!” The same student said.
The school’s basketball team was a magical place. There was a mixture of fish and dragons in it. There were geniuses and idiots, but all of them had one thing in common, which was the fact that they were all aggressive macho boys…and more terribly, they were very united.
This organization was only second to the student council, and at times, it was even more awesome than the student council. If any physical or verbal conflict occurred in the school, as long as you announced that you belonged to the basketball team or you knew someone from there, the conflict would be resolved quickly.
He was from the basketball team…this would be a little tricky to handle.
Xu Mang had a lot of enemies in school, but most of them were soft persimmons. However, guys from the basketball team were a different matter. Just randomly pick any of them, he would never be able to beat them. Those muscles…those lines…
Yield?
No way…that was shameful!
Stand firm?
That wouldn’t work either…
Xu Mang was caught in a dilemma, but then he suddenly thought of Yang Xiaoman.
“Eh?”
“Aren’t you a practitioner?” Xu Mang nudged Yang Xiaoman with his arm, asking her carefully. “Don’t practitioners defend the weak against the strong? Seeing that I’m now in trouble against the odds, can’t you give me a hand?”
“Get lost!”
Yang Xiaoman was still holding a grudge in her heart about just now when Xu Mang had touched her thigh and was extremely irritated. She glared at him vehemently, then she also turned to glare at the three boys behind him. “That includes you guys, get lost!!”
“She’s letting you guys off… Can you bear it?” Xu Mang asked with an innocent expression on his face.
“…”
“…”
“…”
From the moment the three boys had set their sights on Yang Xiaoman, she was already regarded as their own personal goddess. The biggest reason they had made trouble for Xu Mang was because Xu Mang had sat down next to their goddess.
But now, their goddess had personally told them to get lost, what were they to do? Get lost or not?
After a fierce internal struggle and debate, the three of them finally decided to leave. They needed to leave a good first impression on their goddess.
Watching the three of them leave, Xu Mang couldn’t help but let out a relieved sigh. Turned out they were just some bootlickers…
Was her charm really that great?
Xu Mang sneaked a glance at Yang Xiaoman who was playing with her phone. Her attitude was so bad and her figure was short…a defect amongst women, but fascinating to others to the point that they didn’t know whether they wanted her or not…
Forget it, perhaps that was the popular allure nowadays.
But there was one thing that was worth commending, which was with such a violent firecracker like Yang Xiaoman at his side, the sense of security he got was extremely high!
“Could you send me home tonight?”
After a long moment of silence.
“Fine.”
