I Failed to Divorce My Husband - Chapter 6
– Chapter 6–
Erin continued to discover new things about Aiden that she could never have imagined.
At first he seemed sensitive but today, Aiden showed a variety of emotions.
First, he showed a worried look, followed by a curious one, then one with his eyes wide open and lastly he even smiled at Erin.
‘The word friend looks very nice.’
Aiden’s eyes relaxed steadily, and the way he looked at Erin changed.
It was not too long ago when Aiden flinched and became tense upon seeing Erin.
Even the sight of her standing in front of him was enough to send Aiden into torment.
‘So, he’s reminded of something bad whenever he sees me.’
That’s probably what Whitney etched onto
him.
Every time he saw Erin, it would remind him of her nanny’s words.
That’s why, ever since the beginning, he has never lowered his guard once.
“Still, it seems you feel much better now.”
Aiden nodded at Erin’s words.
Still, the same guy who seemed ignorant when I asked to be on the same side, before the divorce, seemed like the most reliable friend to have.
“If that’s the case then…”
Erin’s face, which gave off a happy expression up till now, suddenly became poignant.
What should we do about Whitney from now on?
That was the problem at hand.
This happened from time to time. When the heir is still young, the person who took care of them would use their power behind the scenes. This could be someone like their nanny, or a teacher figure.
In this case, it was obvious that someone was Whitney
And because of the problems that Erin caused, her anger was probably through the
roof.
‘She’s going to try to take her anger out on Aiden.’
Up till now, Whitney had gotten away with taking her anger out on Aiden. And all he could do was receive the weight of her wrath helplessly.
‘I want them to be separated right away….
Erin bit her lips slightly.
Unfortunately, doing that seemed impossible right now.
The couple had entrusted everything to Whitney.
As someone who had just entered the duchy, there was nothing Erin could do.
“But that doesn’t mean I’m going to sit around and wait until the couple return.’
Aiden was still particularly young.
Although Erin had the body of a 10 year old, her mind was still that of an adults. It was her duty to protect a child from the abuse of a disgraceful adult.
That meant she would have to stay by Aiden’s side from morning to night so that Whitney could not approach him.
As soon as morning came, Erin greeted Aiden after waiting for him.
To be honest, she was not expecting any greeting in return, but……
“…….Good morning.”
‘Wow…… did he just greet me?’
Erin’s eyes widened.
‘I can’t believe he just returned my greeting…..!
Although it may be a small act, she was deeply moved.
Her face lit up naturally and broke into a smile.
“It looks like you were heading somewhere?”
“…… The training hall.”
Aiden responded to Erin meekly.
Erin believed that Aiden was slowly letting his guard down, and this made her happy.
“So you’re going there today, too.”
“….. Yeah.”
Aiden responded to Erin’s continuous flow of questions diligently.
And every time he did, she would crack a smile unknowingly.
Erin continued throwing questions at him as they walked side by side.
“Can I go with you?”
Although Erin used to barge into the training hall unannounced, she pretended like it never happened before and asked for permission.
“Together……?”
Aiden’s pupils dilated. This was probably something he had never imagined before.
As Aiden shifted his eyes hesitantly, Erin continued.
“We did say we were going to become friends.”
Erin brought up the conversation they shared yesterday, while staring at Aiden.
“I won’t bother you when you’re training, but we have to be together to get closer.”
This way, she could make sure Whitney doesn’t get close to Aiden.
Of course, it would be a bonus if they could get closer too.
“……Sure.”
Although Aiden’s voice was so soft to the point it sounded like a passing breeze, Erin could still hear his response loud and clear.
She’s felt this before, even if Aiden spoke quietly, she could hear him as if he was speaking right next to her ear.
On their way to the training hall, Erin and Aiden would occasionally strike up conversation.
Although most of the time, it was Erin who brought up a topic with Aiden responding. Despite this, it was still a major development.
Since it seemed like Aiden was getting more comfortable around her, Erin’s smile continued to widen.
The training hall was located quite a distance from the duchy. This was because of an uphill road on the way there.
For someone like a trained knight or Aiden, it was as normal as a stroll in the park. But for Erin, she was trying her best not to show her exhaustion.
‘My stamina…… is terrible…….’
Although she was still young, it was getting hard for her to breathe and her legs were losing their strength.
Since the future is unpredictable, it would be impossible to get anything done in this condition.
‘I should work on my stamina. Even better, I should learn how to wield a sword to protect myself.
In order to make sure she could travel and keep herself safe after the divorce, she was determined to become stronger.
Erin was working on her plans for the future.
As she continued travelling uphill, she tilted her head upwards to let out a breath when she noticed something.
“Huh…..?”
An employee, who was pulling a wagon that was filled to the brim, was accelerating to a point that was uncontrollable.
At the rate it was going, the wagon would continue rolling downhill, but it fell onto its side and caused the employee to trip.
This was when a problem arose. While the employee attempted to maintain her balance amidst the chaos, she grabbed Aiden’s arm and they both fell down.
“……!”
“I am so sorry……!”
The employee panicked, not knowing what to do and continued to apologise profusely.
Throughout this whole ordeal, the employee failed to realise she was still holding on to Aiden’s arm.
“This was due to my incompetence, I am truly sorry!”
Aiden provided no response to the employee’s apologies.
But his silence did not mean forgiveness.
“……Move.”
“What……?
“I said…… move.”
Aiden said and he clenched his teeth.
Erin realised that Aiden’s back was trembling.
He did everything he could to hold back from exploding.
“……”
The slight trembling of Aiden’s back was becoming more obvious. It was clear that he could no longer hold it in.
Erin rushed over to the servant who was still on the ground.
“Windy, was it? It’s fine, so just get up and
go.”
In order to get used to the household, Erin had memorised everyone’s names.
Matching someone’s name to their face was a skill of her’s.
“Young Miss……!”
The employee was particularly moved by the fact that Erin remembers her name and was worried about her.
But still, the employee hadn’t gotten up.
“Hurry.”
Erin repeated herself with a caring but firm voice. Just hurry up and go.
The employee named Windy failed to notice Erin’s frustration and only saw care and concern from her actions.
Erin was able to stop the employee’s continuous apologies and sent her on her way.

The moment the employee left their sight, Aiden collapsed to the ground, back tight from the tension.
Since he could not bear to reveal his weakness to anyone, this was the only time where he could express his pain.
Aiden, with his back turned, grabbed onto his arms tightly.
His grip was so strong, it was as if he would rip his arms off.
…… It felt as if they had returned to their first night. With her hands outstretched, Erin couldn’t move.
It was just as thought Aiden would stop breathing right then and there if she touched him.
Of course he won’t get better right away.’
It wasn’t possible for them to become friends and everything to be a-okay just from a few conversations.
These things take time.
If Windy hadn’t grabbed Aiden’s arm, causing both of them to fall, then in her delusion Erin would have grabbed him, causing a different accident to occur.
It was then that Erin made up her mind to keep her distance from Aiden.
No matter how fine it may seem, always be prepared for anything.
Although it will be frustrating, she decided to take it slow.
So for now…… patience is the key.
Erin continued to look over Aiden.
And she waited till he got better.
But, seeing how much pain he’s in, is watching him until he gets better the only thing she can do?
Erin was deep in thought until she finally spoke.
“Aiden.”

Erin called out his name very carefully. It was uncertain if Aiden was able to hear her voice.
But Erin continued calmly.
“Do you remember what I said yesterday?”
She thought it would be okay if she spoke from a distance.
Erin continued, taking extra care with each word she spoke.
“Since we are married, I will always be on your side.”

Although there was no response, Erin continued speaking with sincerity.
Erin didn’t notice, because of Aiden’s trembling, but one line caught his attention.
As well as the meaning behind them.
“That’s why, it’s okay.”

It was her gentle and magically comforting words.
No need to force yourself to be okay.
You don’t have to hide yourself out of fear that others will know.
Since I am here, you can be a bit more comfortable, and let out your pain.
Everything’s going to be okay.
Slowly…… but surely, the trembling in Aiden’s back calmed down.
His face that was once twisted in pain, slowly relaxed.
Erin’s words echoed in his mind repeatedly.
‘I am on your side. That’s why it’s going to be okay.
