Chapter 20: Lili’s Mother
“Miss Song, actually the Young Master likes the Little Miss a lot. He just has a hard time expressing his affection for her. Earlier, when you picked up the Little Miss outside the mansion, the Young Master had us all look for her everywhere. He almost exploded when we informed him of our failure to locate her…”
Song Qingwan understood what the butler was trying to say immediately. Curling her lips, she waved her hand.
“Fine, fine, you don’t have to explain on behalf of my boy. I know what kind of a person he is. A quiet and reserved man, just like his father! Don’t worry, as long as he treats my granddaughter well, I won’t snatch Lili away from him,” she said.
“Thank you for understanding, Miss Song,” the butler replied with a smile.
She froze up momentarily. Regretting her words, she quickly rectified her stance. “Perhaps I have spoken too soon. I won’t snatch her away, for today.”
“…That’s fine too,” replied the butler.
One more day was better than no more day.
What she said was understandable considering how cute the little girl was.
If the Young Master wasn’t the little girl’s biological father, it was hard to imagine that Miss Song would agree to let him have her around for even on more day.
The butler stopped and pondered for a moment before asking, “Miss Song, now that the Little Miss has moved into the Lu Family, about her mother…”
“She is going to be a problem,” said Song Qingwan in a low voice. “What’s her background like?”
“We haven’t found her yet.”
The butler shook his head. “It was because the Little Miss’ appearance in the Lu Family was too sudden. Even the surveillance cameras didn’t capture who it was that sent her here. Digging into the matter would be extremely difficult. Even if we asked the Little Miss about her mother, there’s still a chance that she’d have no idea what we’re talking about…”
“Then stop looking for her altogether,” replied Song Qingwan, grabbing the bull by the horns. “Her mother’s whereabouts matter little to us, so long as Lili is safe here with us. Even if we found her, judging by how much Lu Junhan hates women, I doubt that he’s going to marry her. He might even find her as a nuisance. Since that’s most likely going to be the case, we might as well go with the flow. Lili alone is enough.”
“Not to mention that if Lili’s mother indeed cared about her, she would’ve came looking for her by now. There’s no need for us to waste effort looking for her. If her mother couldn’t care less about her, then we’ll consider that the best-case scenario. We will raise Lili by ourselves!”
“Even if her mother decides one day that she wants her daughter back, she could bring us to court for all I care! The lawyers of the Lu Corporation aren’t just expensive pieces of office décor anyways!”
Song Qingwan said so much, but she only meant one thing: She didn’t care who was the one coming, Lili could only belong to them and the Lu Family! They would never let her go!
There was a cold light that shone in her eyes, and her words were clear and strong.
Perhaps it was because she spoke too much, or perhaps it was the thought that someone would come and snatch Lili away from them someday in the future, that she got emotionally riled-up.
She pressed her palm against her chest and coughed.
“Ms. Song, have you forgotten? The doctor advised you to refrain from being to emotional. Quickl, take your pills.”
Her personal assistant quickly ran over and took out a bottle, from which he shook out a number of pills onto his palm.
Song Qingwan propped herself up using the table. She grabbed a nearby bottle and washed down the pills down her throat with the water.
Her actions were very natural and well-rehearsed. It was obvious that she had been taking these pills for quite some time, but she remained unfazed.
The butler was stunned and asked her, “Ms. Song, you’re sick? Since when? Does Young Master Lu know about it?”
“I’m not sick, it’s just my staff being overly-fussy.”
Song Qingwan held the bottled water in her hand and then waved her other hand. She sighed silently.
“I’m simply getting older, and some of my old injuries have decided to present themselves now. It’s no big deal, I only need some medicine to help me keep going.”
The butler was still not satisfied, and said, “Ms. Song, maybe you should go to the hospital…”
“No need for that. It’s just some minor ailment. There’s no need to go to the hospital!”
“But…”
“Don’t worry, I know my own body. I pay more attention to it more than any of you do. If I said I’m fine, I’m fine! If there’s something wrong with it, I’d be at the hospital already!”
The butler had no choice but to give up.
“Alright, as long as you’re going to be alright.”
Her personal assistant wanted to say something. However, he received a cold glare from Song Qingwan the moment his lips began to move. Her eyes were issuing him a warning, which prompted him to seal his lips back up.
