Chapter 29: Tell A Story
The man in the bathrobe laid on his bed. Habitually, he reached out and grabbed the financial book on the bedside cabinet. His long, pale fingers flipped over a page before he replied coldly to the little girl, “No.”
The little girl was not having it. Only her head had crossed the line in the beginning, but now her entire body had almost crossed over the makeshift border.
She blinked her eyes excitingly, “Can you tell me one? I would like to hear one.”
“No.”
The man repeated coldly as he scanned through the book. His finger had flipped over another page when he answered her question.
“Why not, daddy?”
The little girl’s entire body had already crossed over by this point.
Her little head appeared in front of his eyes. Her black hair was like a small waterfall that flowed from behind her head, and its length was just enough to block Lu Junhan’s sight of the book’s contents.
Lu Junhan, “…”
Alright, this little troublemaker really knew how to find the best angle to annoy him.
In the next second, the little girl’s round, clear eyes stared into his. Her black eyelashes were like the wings of butterflies as they fluttered. They looked mesmerizing, to say the least.
She held her little fist and said with conviction, “Other kids have bedtime stories, Lili wants one too.”
“Keep on dreaming then!”
Lu Junhan extended his arm and picked her up with a cold expression. He proceeded to throw the little thing back into its territory.
The little girl was too small, so she didn’t manage to latch onto the bed sheets before she rolled down the side of the bed. However, she wasn’t angry at all.
A moment later, she once again crossed over the blanket that divided them as if she was invincible. Like a buzzing mosquito, she continued bugging Lu Junhan. “Daddy! Bedtime story! Tell Lili a bedtime story, please…”
Lu Junhan took a deep breath and turned towards her with an angry glare. “If I tell you one, will you shut up and go to sleep?!” he asked.
A lot of people would have wetted their pants upon receiving such a cold and hostile glare, but Lili didn’t seem to be affected at all. Her chubby white face was all puffed up as she excitedly said in a soft voice, “…You really want to tell me a story, daddy?”
“Yes.”
“Yay…”
“A long, long time ago, there was a woman. She died. The end.”
“… That was way too short. Daddy, do you really know how to tell a bedtime story?”
“…” Lu Junhan gave her a cold stare and said, “Shut up and go to bed!”
“…”
Alright.
She had located her daddy, got him to sleep in the same bed as her, and received a bedtime story from him, albeit a really brief one. Lu Li was already very satisfied with what she got today.
She quietly pulled her blanket over her body and slept.
However, just before she slept, her head once again crossed over the blanket in the middle as if she had suddenly remembered something. Her fair, chubby little face was very beautiful under her long, soft black hair.
She whispered to the man, “Goodnight, daddy.”
The man read his book with his head lowered coolly. He didn’t say anything. He did not look up from his book nor did he respond to her wishing him goodnight.
The little girl paid him no heed as her little body laid back on the bed. Quietly, she shut her eyes.
After a short while, her breathing became slow and constant. A sign that she had fallen asleep for real this time.
No one knew how much time had passed before the man finally looked up from his book and gave her a long hard stare.
She was huddled up as she slept on the side. Her little hands laid next to her face. It looked elegant, fair, and cute as she had her face facing him. Her tiny mouth was slightly open, allowing her to breathe. She was as peaceful as a little angel that had fallen down onto Earth.
Her little brows were slightly furrowed as if something was bugging her in her dreams.
Lu Junhan paused slightly and put down his book. He then raised his hand to switch off the bright light from the lamp.
…
On the second day, Lu Junhan went to work normally. Lu Li wanted to come along, but as soon as she reached the door, she was thrown into Song Qingwan’s arms by her bad, cold, and emotionless daddy.
Song Qingwan really liked the little thing and didn’t want to let her go the moment she had her in her arms.
When she heard that Lu Li wanted to follow her daddy to work, Song Qingwan quickly dispelled her desire by saying, “Lili, I’m not kidding when I say that daddy’s work will bore you to death! He would have to put on his cold, emotionless face the entire day, and you’d quickly get frustrated from looking at it for too long. You better follow auntie, I’ll go and buy something nice for you to eat!”
Song Qingwan originally wanted to call herself grandma but felt that she was making herself sound old. After giving it some thought, being called auntie was so much easier to the ears. To her ears at least.
She wasn’t Lu Junhan’s real mother anyway.
Not to mention the fact that she hadn’t married as well. She was still young, so of course, it would only be right for the little girl to call herself auntie!
