Chapter 199 – Their project for Youth Innovation Competition brought about heated discussions. (2)
Gu Shao walked over and glanced over at the simple model that the three had built. It only took him a look to figure out what they were trying to accomplish.
“A unidetermination model?”
“Mmhmm.” Gu Xi nodded and said, “It isn’t like we will be able to make something more complicated than this.”
Gu Shao nodded. Gu Xi was only a sophomore in junior high school. This was already quite good. Tiancheong Competition, on the other hand, was out of her league.
Gu Shao had yet to figure out the reason behind her joining that competition. Among the three of them, Gu Yanlin was the only one that could really make the cut.
As for this boy over here……
He’s average. Nothing special.
“As it in just a unidetermination model, you wouldn’t need two inputs right here. Changing it to one would not affect the outcome of your model. Then there is this part……”
Gu Shao pointed at the model and offered some simple comments.
He didn’t say a lot, but he pointed out all of the existing problems.
After a round of Gu Shao’s “take this out” and “remove that”, Gu Xi and her team’s overall model had been “slimmed down” and much simplified.
Gu Shao stopped interfering after some simple explanations and let the three finish up their work.

Gu Xi and the others were able to complete their model preliminarily over the weekend.
Their model could only distinguish sweet and savory taste, but the machine could also detect sweet and savory reagents, send the message to the terminal, and release the corresponding sample.
Gu Xi filmed the entire process and saved it onto a USB drive. She turned that in along with her group’s topic on Monday.
The class teacher was a little surprised when she received the materials that Gu Xi had turned in. “You finished already?”
She hadn’t looked at this current document yet, but she had looked at the preliminary idea that Gu Xi had turned in earlier. She felt that the idea was very good and very creative, but she also worried how complicated it would be to put the model together and whether the three kids would be able to finish it themselves.
She hadn’t expected that they would have it completed so soon.
Then again, recalling who Gu Xi’s father was, the class teacher returned to her normal self.
“I’ll turn this in for you right away,” said the class teacher.
The deadline for turning in their materials was three days from now but the team of judges had already started the preliminary round of elimination and grading. There was no limit on the number of teams but, from past experience, the teams who turned in their project sooner tend to attract more attention and receive higher marks. Toward the end, as the team of judges had seen more and more projects, they would start to get burn out and become stricter when it came to grading.

Their class teacher turned their project into the Youth Innovation Competition through their school with alacrity.
It took a little over half a day for it to show up in front of the team of judges.
Thirty some odd teams had already turned their projects in before them.
Many of them were along the line of environmental protection logo design, convenient handbag, environmental-friendly cup, stable pull ring for buses, etc. They were creative and not bad ideas but, overall, they were a bit on the light side.
Gu Xi and her team’s project stood out among the others.
“Oh, this one, Remote Transmission of Taste and Smell, that sounds quite innovative!” One of the judges’ eyes lit up when they saw the title and quickly called out to the female teacher next to them. “C’mon over and take a look at this one, Teacher Yu. I quite like this one.”
“Oh yeah? Let me take a look.” Teacher Yu, too, stuck her head over and looked through the materials.
“Remote Transmission of Taste and Smell, that is quite a good idea.” Pausing for a little, Teacher Yu smiled and lamented, “The idea had occurred to me in the past, but it was just an idea. I felt that it would be too complicated and never thought too much about it. What do you know……”
Not only did a few high school students came up with the idea, but they seemed to have figured out a way for it to work!
Teacher Yu continued to flip through the materials excitedly.
[Possible future applications: Internet streaming, future commercials, online sensory experiences, AR technology area, etc. etc……]
Teacher Yu when she read about the possible future applications and said to her colleague next to her, “It would seem that it had a very broad range of application. It has very high market value and corresponds nicely with current and future developments.”
Pausing, Teacher Yu added, “Plus, I feel that its actual application areas could very well expand beyond these.”
